I'm from what counts as a really Christian village in a Western Euro country, and this sort of shit is alien to me. There are (mostly) three types of Christians in America: Catholics, evangelical Protestants, and mainline Protestants
Catholics have pomp and show but don't follow their own rules
Evangelicals are obnoxious bible-thumpers
Mainline Protestants have such a vague notion of their own religion that they're basically invisible
>>
>>89901963

Looking it up, turns out that there's like three versions of the show.

There's a regular edition that was made for television, an education version that comes with a teacher's guide and summary segments at the end of an episode, and finally, a faith version, which just crams in Christian pop songs.

That's one of the most beautifully cynical things I've seen out of a children's show.
>>
I think the only acceptable answer is the Prince of Egypt. It's the only one that doesn't seem like propaganda. It's presenting a story rather than hammering in Christian morals.

I keep thinking about how it would be though.

What would be the line to where something wouldn't be allowed by a kids network? My show, in my vision, has two seasons where the second is probably more lore-heavy than the first and also has a lot more religious symbolism (starting with the S1 finale). Would the issues be more with bible-thumping moms not liking the imagery or networks not liking it?
>>

This was the first Paws & Tales thread I made, back in 2013. It's a true story. I had DirecTV and the religious channels were all clustered together. I went to the wrong channel and landed on Paws & Tales. I made threads on-and-off over the following few years and it only really took off in 2016. The show grew on me, but at the time, I had literally only watched one episode.

All that matters is if you realized what you did was wrong and want to improve yourself to be a better person. You don't necessarily need a god to do that. I'm a former Catholic who went to Catholic School K-12 and had to go to church every week until I started college. In my mind organized religion is a load of shit, but the one good thing I've seen from it is community. If you're looking for a group to be a part of then by all means go for it.

Christianity isn't going to be a cure-all for your entire life, so don't expect it to magically make you perpetually happy and disillusioned by it as soon as it doesn't. But if you're really looking for help, and know it's out there, you're on the right track.

There are two primary forms that the sin of pride takes: presumption and despair--you seem to be having despair. There is no sin that God can not forgive. Remember, Christ ate and conversed with the lowest sinners of his society.

I've got a lot of work tonight and I phoneposted this reply, if that means anything.

I'm not a letter-of-the-law believer in much these days, but according to most Protestant doctrine and indeed most Christian doctrine, you can always be saved as long as you truly want it, you ask for it humbly, and you do it in good faith; of course Catholics and actually most Protestant sects will say you need to be baptised by a priest (sometimes it can be another believer who has been baptised) for it to take full effect (or even any effect), but baptism is a ritual first and foremost, a representation of your commitment to God, to Christ, and to a righteous life

Superbook did turn out to be pretty good. Fun fact Sam Vincent, who voices Chris, and Cathy Weseluck, who voices Gizmo, both tried out for the role of Spike the Dragon on MLP.
Cathy got the part obviously but in a convention I attended he let loose this little tidbit during a panel and a little girl stepped up to the mic during the qna.
She asked if he could do his rendition of Spike and he did so. He sounded just a touch more butch than Cathy, the little girl stood there and after a moment said "Yours is better".
Pic related was the literal translation of what happened

Superbook feels like a fucking fever dream, dude. The girl always runs into some problem where she acts like a bitch about XYZ and then the dude is all 'what football skateboards don't be a bitch' and the robot is just an idiot, and then a fucking silver glasses case descends from on-high, and everyone yells 'SUPERBOOK NOT NOW!' before being teleported to the time of Jonah who gets swallowed by a giant coelocanth (???) where they learn to pray to God.

Then there's a commercial about how it's the Super Mom Marathon because apparently it's all for the benefit of homeridden mothers who must be watching their kids even though it mostly airs while school's in session?

Not explicitly presentation like these posts seem to be, but in my observations the highlights of the three main branches are like this:

Catholicism - Philosophy
Protestantism - Community

Two other things I wanted to say about this cartoon: first off, I remember the Easter special being pretty hardcore, because one of the main characters was at one point about to get crucified after giving Nero himself a pretty good burn via a parable.

Secondly, I read a blog post somewhere about how evangelicals like to teach their kids how cool it was that Christians were persecuted for their faith, and it reminded me of this cartoon.

The issue is with the analogy is you keep the sheep fat and docile and come winter, or another holiday, you slaughter one or two for food.
Christianity's main draw is for people with less feelings of self worth and those who want to feel like they're part of something bigger/grand. That's also true for most cults in general when getting people to follow them.

Religion can used to justify some really shitty behaviour, most characters in Moral Orel are a good example of this. But there's also an argument to be made that most of the population don't really have the strength of will to be decent people without help from others. I'm not even religious but I can understand that point of view - Just looking at the world you can see how without any sense of community or belief in a greater good (or in a lot of cases now, any kind of parental guidance) people easily become very shallow and self interested and uncaring about other people.

If you're strong enough to be a good person without religion, good for you. But I think it's pretty obvious most people aren't there yet. Or if you're a libertarian who doesn't particularly care what happens to anyone who isn't you, I guess. That's also a valid belief, not one I agree with, but I guess it's how a lot of people think these days.

I think i get what you're saying about having trustworthy adults, but imo kids should be given a choice of religion instead of being... well frankly being BRAINWASHED into believing in a diety (s). This might come off as edgy but teaching a young child religion is like teaching a young child. They can't consent and won't fully understand. And will only say religious things because it makes the adult happy.

Why do so many Christian cartoons prominently feature talking animals when the Bible explicitly warns that talking animals are Satan and must be killed immediately?
>>
>>89944844

I respectfully disagree. Parents should teach their kids good customs and religion is one of those things to be teached.
>>
>>89944892

Not always. For example, remember when Balaam donkey talked to him?
>>
>>89945002
Not him. But I think if you're going to teach a kid religion than you should at least have the decency not to sugarcoat it. Tell them about the rapes, and the deaths, and reason why other religions are wrong (protip you can't).

Like, remember that episode of VeggieTales that was based on the story of how David sent his bestie to war so he could rape his wife? And VeggieTales replaced Fùck with Duck or something and completely missed the point of the story?
Just tell kids the truth. The world's a cruel place and sometimes so is the L0RD.
>>
>>89943992
>humans have evolved to walk and talk
>can't raise their life expectancy so just sit and eat
Lol evolutionists.
>>
>>89945142

My teacher showed a movie about the raping of indians when we were in highschool, because we were more ready to deal with it than when we were in basic or pre. Of course that depends on your view about content ratings, but I think it's good to have sfw content for kids and hand the heavier stuff as they develop. Also we had classes about why other religions were wrong, but that was in the teenager religious classes.
>>
>>89945179
Where did you get that notion? Your post doesn't seem to relate at all with mine, aside from mentions of evolution (even though I was implying transhumanism, but that's beside the point.)

And we can increase our life expectency, through diet and excercise, advances in medicinal sciences, and perhaps one day cybernetics.
>>
>>89944844
That's interesting because I'm kinda the other way around.
>had religious grandparents
>my parents fell away from religion and didn't raise me religiously because they thought I should make my own choices about what to believe
>don't actually have faith that there is a God, but can see that religious people like my grandparents are usually trying to do the right thing and make the world a better place which is more than most non-religious people are doing

If I were to ever have kids (which, lets be honest, is pretty doubtful, here I am on the verge of waifuing a cartoon weasel on a Manchurian join-the-dots image board) I really wouldn't know what to do for the best. The world is so fucked up in so many ways it would break my heart if my kids became self-centred vapid materialistic cunts like the vast majority of people, and sometimes I think instilling Christian morality might be the only way to avoid that.
>>
Are their any religious cartoons with good antagonists? I wish to know for reasons.
>>
>>89945518

Tiffany from Paws and Tales seems to be a fun antagonist. Even through she isn't as evil as Lex Luthor, it takes a high level of pettiness to hire a private detective to dig humiliating stuff to blackmail other kids to win a spelling bee.

Or force kids to do her favors under the threat (and actually doing it) firing their fathers and removing their families of income.
>>
>>89945686
Not what I had in mind, but still pretty brutal. And for a kid of all things. Could be worse, I suppose.

Thing is, "the good shepherd" implies the shepherd also takes the place of his flock in that regard as well, especially with Jesus bypassing the whole "death is permanent" thing
>>
>>89943151
Its simple
>Nother word for the Son in Christian is Lamb.
>The Father sent the Lamb here to be killed for the good of mankind.
>Christians want to live and follow as the Son did.
>>
>>89944736
Thanks Anon, I'm giving them a listen. Would still be nice to see the other episodes of the cartoon.
>>
Do you ever sometimes feel like, you want to live a good godful life but you just can't? Like, you've been cast in this mold that just isn't capable of doing it?

I make fun of them, I ridicule them but sometimes late at night I feel something. Maybe I'm in the wrong, maybe EVERYONE is in the wrong. Maybe it doesn't matter in the slightest.

Agh I don't know how to correctly express my thoughts on such a matter really.

I think I kinda get what you're saying. When I watch innocent well meaning stuff like these cartoons I don't even know whether it's making me happy or sad any more - Probably it just brings into focus the fact my own innocence is long gone and is never ever coming back. >>
>>89950342
Well fair enough, but it doesn't particularly agree with my idea of Christianity. if you want to teach kids what you think are important moral lessons that should be for all kids, not just those whose parents can afford to buy them DVDs or website subscriptions. I feel things like this should rely on charity rather than sales so they can be accessible to all, it feels a bit like charging an entrance fee to a church.

>>89948931
Inerrancy is the belief of the infallibility of the Bible. For instance, it doesn't contradict itself. This is tied to the literalism part as well. Literalism is the assumption that there's no symbols or metaphors in the Bible, which isn't the case, according to what I believe in.
Furthermore, there are some sections (notably the ceremonial laws of Israel in Deuteronomy) which were designed to look ahead to Christ's coming. When he died he fulfilled those laws. Paul wrote a lot about this btw

Well, neither are wrong really. Render unto Caesar and all. If a tyrant oppresses you out of spite, obey them insofar as you are obligated by God. "Stars" LIAM NEESON in his debut acting role! (According to imdb?)

I usually think it will help you set up some moral compass that would help you in the long run, not to mention you're tie to some sort of community with what religion you believe in. You can leave your religion after experience them in your youth but those lesson will stick to you.

>LOL BUT YOU DON'T RELIGION TO GET A MORAL COMPASS
Unless you have some good fucking parents and/or grandparent, the compass end up being fucked up and you're seeing the result of it today.

I remember seeing this one. It plays out like a motion comic more than anything else, but that gloriously 70s/80s art is pretty neato and reminds me a lot of the Rankin-Bass Return of the King movie

This is one of the things that really I think is vital, especially since we're living in a relativistic age where traditional forms of morality are seen as obsolete at best, and problematic at worst. Even though people are still the same they always were.

Granted, even religious people will still struggle to maintain that standard (which is something I don't think many realize) but the key point is that they're actively trying to maintain one to begin with.

Similarly, the attitudes, doctrines, and community of a church body or synod can also be a positive influence.

Not really.

Twain was an existentialist. The "Satan" in this wasnt the actual Satan, but his nephew. This sequence was intended to depict nihilism, which was the antithesis of Twain's belief. "The Mysterious Stranger" was more about existentialism than Christianity.

I do like how even Mark Twain himself was visibly disturbed by what just happened

Not necessarily. Being a good and moral person in the real world and your interaction with real people but a massive pervert in your own head about fictional characters and situations aren't mutually exclusive. It isn't hurting anyone so it's not really "immoral".

Besides, there's nothing wrong with wanting a wholesome Christian wife like Gooz.

>It isn't hurting anyone so it's not really "immoral".
Here I go.
As long as you have those perverse thoughts you are hurting yourself and your relationship with God. Jesus said that if you so much as look at a woman with lust in your heart you have already committed that sin.
Granted I don't think they had cute fictional cartoon weasels back then but I don't think there's much room for a gray area here.

What episode did she fire any of parents?
All the other episodes seem to build the character as someone who's obviously supposed to represent material hubris and prideful behavior but in those episodes aside from threats and emotionally sabotaging the other competitors she doesn't do anything that can be considered pure evil. Sure she's ready to use any means at her disposal to win, but again, it is only a spelling bee and sharing gifts. Her being a self-imposed social outcast and primadonna who obviously longs for stable relationships with her father and the other kids makes her very sympathetic.

Actually she reminds me of a courtney gripling from as told by ginger, except instead of befriending the MCs she works as an antagonist.

If anything, Tiffany resents her father. She desperately wants to live with her mother, who divorced her father. The radio play about that implies her mother isn't doing well financially and she doesn't want Tiffany with her because she feels her father can give her a better life.

All Tiffany wants is to be with her mother. It's why, in the spelling bee episode, the beaver told them that they could sabotage Tiffany's performance by lying to her about her mother being there.
>>
>>89968158

The continuity really was a nice touch. Tiffany ultimately fails to get CJ's dad fired. Then, in future episodes, CJ's friends begin to resent him because CJ is allowed at their mansion and has to wear nice suits and attend events there. CJ and Tiffany even begin to bond a little bit and the kids in their club hate that.

One would think, in this day and age, the episodes wouldn't just vanish. They were on YouTube for years before getting delete.d Where are all of the Russian bots that download and reupload everything when you need the,?

The only place with every episode - likely even in higher quality than the stuff that was on YouTube - is JellyTelly. But again, it requires a bank card. Which is why I didn't download the episodes back when I got the free trial during the last thread. I may not be a God fearing man, but I do have common sense. Thing is Anon, when you grow up you realize that not everybody's mind works the same way as yours, and despite your obvious disdain for them that does in fact describe most people. What's better for both you and them, that people who'd otherwise be morally bankrupt selfish assholes are taught it's fine for them to behave that way or are taught it's good to behave better?
