Interior artist is Daniel Acuna

Out on April 19

Sorry for tripfagging the first time.

It's the official reveal of the Secret Empire #0 cover and interior artist.

>>
I do love Mark Brook's covers, I just hope that they have him do more wild designs for future issues.

I guess that means I can drop Sam Wilson, then.

>>
>>89890845
>I thought Sam Wilson was ending.
It might be, I was just getting it for the art and fell way behind (last issue I read was the Misty solo with the amazingly shit poser fill in artist).

But I was surprised at how much more thought and effort Spencer put into Civil War II: The Oath so I'm hoping that SE won't be a total shit-show.
>>
>ten issues, zero (#0) through nine (#9)
>starts in April 2017

We're looking at an end date in February 2018, assuming there are no delays or if the event is scheduled to double-ship.

Is anybody going to care about the Secret Hydra Empire War in exactly one year from now?
>>
>>89891593
I think they're alternating artists throughout it, which should make it go quicker, but yeah, delays gonna happen.

I still don't see how this premise can go on for 10 whole issues.
>>
Say it with me /co/
"I'm not interested in marvel events"
>>
>>89891602
That's a good question too: What the hell do they have planned that they think this will last ten issues? That's 200-plus pages, which in scriptwriting terms makes for a goddamn three-plus hour movie.
>>
>>89890535
Do they need to? While Marvel will be continuing to rape the image of one of their most iconic heroes to make a goddamn political statement, DC will continue to celebrate theirs
>>
>>89891630
They say 0 issue will have Cap divide the heroes over multiple problems, and then issue 1 the world will know Cap is Hydra. That's still stretching it. I know it'll be Hydra and villains wrecking shit and a lot of the more powerful heroes stuck in space fighting a Chtari armada, but I still don't see how it can be stretched to 10 issues. I'm sure there will be a twist, like Steve is working with someone else.
>>
>>89891593
>Is anybody going to care
>exactly one year from now?
Honestly? I'm not very hype RIGHT NOW. The Event Fatigue is real.

I mean: CWII The Oath is the lead in so there's literally not gap between CWII and SE (and we've got Monsters Unleashed and IvX currently ongoing as well with the latter leading up to the Resurr(X)tion X-Titles relaunch and the inevitable All-New Marble Now-er than Now Re-re-re-launch that'll come after THAT ).
>>
>>89889593
>ANOTHER WHITE MALE-CENTRIC EVEN
>>
>>89891593
>>89891602
Oh hey, I was wrong:
>“Secret Empire” debuts in April with Issue 0, and will conclude in August.

So that's #0 in April, #1-2 in May, #3-4 in June, #5-6 in July, and #7-9 in August. Maybe. Might be #0-1 in April, #2-3 in May, et cetera.

>>89891737
After "Civil War II" I'm not sure if I can trust Marvel with having an actual ongoing idea that sticks. How many times did the goalposts shift in CW2?

Personally, I still feel like Marvel needs a "52" of its own. Out of everything it's taken from DC's playbook, it's never tried to replicate "52".
>>
I think the biggest problem with events right now is that they star the same characters over and over. Like, look at the cover of Secret Empire 1. It's the same cast that's been circulating since Secret Wars. At least throw in someone new or different. Hell, put the Thunderbolts on the cover. If you can put Medusa on there, you might as well put T-Bolts. They sell about the same.
>>
>>89889593
That's a sexy Cap.
>>
>>89891795
The problem with Marvel is that their stock of writers are mediocre.

A New 52 wouldn't change anything but make the universe seem more contrived, banal, and constricted than it already does.
>>
>>89890535
>Hope DC has something to counter this mini

Better written books like they did with CW2, IvX and the rest of shitty events

Hence my want of a "Marvel 52". Give us something that DOESN'T outwardly focus on A-List or even B-List heroes already!

That's a fair point. Marvel attempting "52" would come off more like "Countdown" in the end.

That's what happens when they let Bendis wing it w/o any editorial oversight (anyone who read Age of Ultron or his X-Men run could have told you exactly what was going to happen).

But, yes, after Civil War and Secret Wars BOTH got delayed AND extended by an extra issue EACH (and in both cases well after things were underway/solicits were out) I'd be fucking AMAZED if the same thing doesn't happen again. Because the inmates are clearly running the asylum.
>>
>>89891894
Hell, look at the recently announced book. Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders, Rocket Raccoon...they just aren't putting any effort into non-MCU stuff.

Captain America will overcome his Hail Hydra phase and become a good guy again just in time for the Infinite War movie. Sorry if I'm spoiling the shocking twist.

>Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders
>MCU
i mean i know they're all supposed to be one universe but i'll never buy that after learning what feige had to say

But yeah, they seem to be erring on the side of properties that have established avenues of storytelling elsewhere. I'd like to see a count of how many Marvel books in publication aren't immediately connected to a recent film or television show.

And by "immediate" I mean that while the "Deadpool" ongoing is clearly connected to the "Deadpool" movie by name alone, a spin-off like "Slapstick" or "Foolkiller" wouldn't be connected. "Duckpool" would be connected though. Also "Gwenpool" might be connected based on the name again. We can figure it out later.

>>89891982
I assume he meant "new 52", without the capital lettering.
>>
>>89891931

You seem to be ignoring things like Moon Knight, Foolkiller and Gwenpool, senpai.

I mean: you'll see people screaming right here on /co/ on any given day about the fact that they LACK synergy with the MCU (Thor/Iron Man's a grill! Cap is black/hydra!)
>>
>>89891894
I don't think you understand.

Marvel doesn't have the talent to make a New 52 type reboot enjoyable. It'd be full stories of A-list heroes, more teams starring A-list/B-list/ Netflix darling heroes, teen superheroes, and several C- D list heroes.

It'd be exactly what we have now, but the continuity would be limited to a few classic stories, and whatever happens in the movies.

>>89891982

>New 52 is the same as 52

When did I imply that?
>>
>>89891968
No, no, you know how you cut off one head and two heads take its place?

Captain America is going to get shoved in some kind of magic box, and when he comes out there will be two Caps, one good and one evil.

Oh, I get it now.

Maybe Marvel just needs to scrap its pool of writers and start all over or something. What do Bendis and Slott have that keeps them on the payroll, anyways?

I'd put Cullen Bunn and Al Ewing on that book. Maybe Nick Spenser too.

The post you replied to was talking about 52 a weekly series, then you responded by referring to it as a "New 52" and talking about reboots despite that not being what 52 was.Sounds like you think 52 and New 52 are the same thing
>>
>>89892064
>All that are being canceled and being replaced with more MCU synergy.
Stuff like Slapstick and Deadpool The Duck are basically Marvel's DCYou: they threw a whole mess of stuff at the wall to see what would stick (and most of it didn't). Which, of course, is why people keep talking up a Marvel Reborn/Rebirth type deal.

But I actually agree that it's mostly a talent drain (people either going DC exclusive or jumping to Creator Owned) combined with an *amazingly* worthless Editorial.

I mean: as a very bitter and disenchanted X-Fag I was pretty psyched about the X-Books bringing back the Blue and Gold ... until I saw the creative teams (Land on one and Guggenheim on t'other). They're just moving deck chairs around on the Titanic at this point.
>>
>>89892078
You'll get Ewing and Spencer, but you'll get a Bendis in there to create a AvX shaped abortion.

>>89892087
Okay, I was in the wrong, I know what 52 is, but my brain auto-completed to New 52.

My point still stands though. Where we're at now, the Marvel universe does feel like 52, but a shitter version.

Most of the A-listers are gone and have been replaced, B-D listers are rising up, and there's a cosmic threat looming on the horizon.

All we need is Cable and his tattoo to get a bigger role in his new ongoing.

Bunn's amazingly hit and miss (with things like Fearless Defenders being damn near unreadable); but I could get behind Ewing and Spencer (provided they kept a leash on Spencer's more hamfisted tendencies: Mutants as a metaphor for Minorities is fine; Inhumans as a stand in for Refugees is a bit on the nose (but do-able); Right Wing talking points being copy-pasted into the mouths of literal Super Villains is just cringe inducing).

Thing is, Bunn loves the obscure stuff. I don't think FD was as bad as people say, but he killed it on Magneto and Sinestro. Also, he did the book the Fearless even before Fearless Defenders, which involved Valkyrie globe trotting.
>>
>>89892475
Post proof after you do it, send it to Spencer and Marvel via tweeter.

You gotta do it tho.
>>
>>89892487
>I don't think FD was as bad as people say
I strongly disagree with you.

>but he killed it on Magneto and Sinestro.
This is true; but those are solo titles and they're villains/anti-heroes.

Ewing, if Ultimates and New/USAvengers is any indication, could end up being Marvel's answer to Johns when it comes to continuity fagging.

But I don't see it happening (for either of them) with the current Editorial still in place.

>No she does want to use it now, Maria Hill convinced her.
At no point did she not want to use it, anon. The order of events goes:
>Hill tries to convince SHIELD council to create The Shield
>Hill gets deposed as Director
>Hill runs away to Carol, gives her the plans for the Shield (this is the first time Carol hears of The Shield)
>Carol goes to Obama to cash in on her One Free Favor and has him advocate for The Shield to have it built
>Steve finds out about this and lectures her about how The Shield is a horrible idea and she shouldn't build it
>The Shield gets built anyways, but Carol gets cold feet about using it while this Alien Refugee Crisis is still going on
So that scene is either an editorial goof wherein they didn't explain to the writer that The Shield is something Carol wanted and Steve didn't, or she's still pro-Shield but just wants to make sure the refugee crisis is sorted out first and Steve is just playing some kinda big keikakku that's on too high of a level for our feeble minds to comprehend.

It was fucking STUPID. Just as Marvel has stand ins for Racist Hate Groups they also have stand ins for Evil Corporations: if he'd put those same Literal Talking Points into the mouth of an executive at Roxxon or Hammer Industries or Oscorp it would still have been LAZY; but it wouldn't have been STUPID. Give it time: Large Marge is set to launch Batwoman (and we've already got the pointless Tranny side character in the last issue of 'Tec); if her track record with everything from Joker's Daughter to Angela to inSEXts is any indication.

We have white Wally back and Black Wally got better.

Alan Scott being gay won't matter anymore and even if DC marketed it hard during DCYou it was barely part of his personality.

Batwoman debuted a trans character? Wasn't it Batgirl, I really don't follow thise titles. Still what was the problem?

I don't see the problem with Deadman really

>White guy is bad
And Aquaman has a villain who is black! Who cares.

Ray being gay was mostly a Morrison thing, which CW followed and then DC continued. I mean I don't know much about the character to give a fair opinion about him tho.

Still of the examples you showed that I know none of them really are as preachy or as bad as Marvel and like you said no characters were replaced so you can take it or leave it, don't wanna read Chinese Superman (which is good btw) you can go back to regular Superman anytime.
>>
>>89897953
>during DCYou
This was years ebfore that, you imebcile.

>White guy is bad
He's the only straight white guy in the story while the non binary and bi chubby girl are both perfect.
>>
>>89895909
That's what happens when you're a cuck, sorry man.
>>
>>89897889
Yes because DC realized their error, Marvel meanwhile still defends every one of their mistakes including shit like Ultimatum, OMD, and Sins Past.

And even when they were doing bad shit, DC still did diversity better than Marvel from the 80's and onward.
>>
>>89897862
>is it written by spencer?
That's usually what having your name on the promo means, yes.
>>
>>89898024
Pretty sure the titular character, Deadman is also a straight white male except he's dead.

You're just triggered, admit it.
>>
>>89898065
Fuck, i'm going blind.
>>
>>89897953
>Batwoman debuted a trans character?
MtF character introduced in the last issue of 'Tec just before Batwoman solo launches

>Wasn't it Batgirl
She had one too.

>Still what was the problem?
So far there really isn't one; outside of the Virtue Signaling (exactly why would someone feel the need to point out they were trans when you first meet them to discuss something related to a medical case? Other than scoring those Pander Points from tumblr, I mean).
>>
>>89898024
Deadman is also straight and white. And using his example Manta is often the only black guy. It doesn't mean all white guys are evil any more than Manta means all black guys are evil.

I mean it wasn't particularly good writing and overall that mini was clearly just an art showcase, but focusing on this as if that was the message of the story is pretty odd.
>>
>>89897953
>like you said no characters were replaced so you can take it or leave it, don't wanna read Chinese Superman (which is good btw) you can go back to regular Superman anytime.
sigh... If you don't like Whor you can read Unworthy Thor, if you don't like Falcon Cap you can read Steve Cap... You're just being an obnoxious console warsfag and you're being so loud because DC is popular right which makes things even worse, because it makes you look like you follow trends and for you popularity is important. I've been called a marvelfag so many times over the past few months because I don't think DC is perfect and I've criticized some of the stuff they've been doing and you shills start throwing bitch fits. It's really tiring because I've always had a strong disdain for Marvel so at first I smiled and laughed but now it's just boring...

>>89898062
DC did diversity much better than marvel, that's true. But it hasn't been true since Rebirth hit, it's become very marvel-lite.

It's funny think Spencer is the same guy that writes Morning Glories and The Fix. Something about being at Marvel really sets him off.

Is it the audience size or his proximity to Perlmutter?
>>

Played supporting role for the real protagonist of the story, a mixed chubby bi girl.

The reboot that happened after Flashpoint.

You'd think anons would be triggered by Latina and Muslim Lanterns especially with how the political climate is right now but all I see is the same Reeeeeing at Hydra Cap and the shitty "empowered" white girl titles that Marvel is pushing.

Of course Humphries is focusing on doing a story instead of triggering people and the DC universe has different presidents than the ones we have so I don't think we will get Baz and Jessica versus Yellow Lantern wall
>>
>>89898318
Nice contribution, thanks.
>>
>>89898251
Unworthy is just a recent thing and you still have Thor saying how better Jane is at holding Mjolnir and more worthy and people who complain about SamCap also complain about HydraCap.

Also it's the same damn writer on the Thor titles, ditto on the Cap titles, so much for variety.
>>
>>89892583
I see Ewing more as Marvel response to Morrison.
Bendis is Bizarro Johns.
>>
>>89898280
Not really

>>89898259
I think he probably feels he needs to be more political with Cap and the recent election was also happening so he just went full politics.

His Superior Foes and Ant-Man weren't like that, well Ant-Man at the most just had corporation are bad and the whole app thing.
>>
>>89898251
>It's really tiring
Trust me, anon: you're far from the only one who feels this way.

While I've tended to lean more Marvel in my comcbooks (like actual floppies) over the years; I also grew up on Super Friends and reruns of Superman (the old b+w serial), Wonder Woman, and Adam West's Batman. And currently I read about twice as many Rebirth titles as I do Marvel Now-er titles.

These idiotic console wars and the idea that you can't enjoy USAvengers at the same time you enjoy Red Hood and the Outlaws is the worst kind of faggotry.

Liberty Belle is fine.

At least he didn't go like Brubaker and decimated a bunch of old Cap characters like the Buckys, D-man, Peggy, and others, I was sure he was going to kill Diamondback too.
>>
>>89898259
>Something about being at Marvel really sets him off.
More like shitty Editorial doesn't reign him in, anon. Superior Foes and Ant-Man are both lightly comedic and they were pretty well received; whereas his Secret Avengers was fucking awful (he clearly wanted to write a Philip K. Dick style mindfuck and he also clearly lacked anywhere NEAR the chops to do so).

The ideas in his SamCap book aren't BAD; just really really poorly done. A good (or even competent) Editorial would have sent the first draft back and said: "right, this dialog here where you just take what you heard on Fox And Friends this morning and paste it into Viper's mouth? Maybe try reworking it so it doesn't sound like that's what you're doing because a Super Villain talking to other Super Villains isn't going to bother with the dog whistles he's just going to say what's actually on his mind."

Morning Glories is just him getting his LOST on.

>Marvel editorial is shit.
This is known. And we all know WHY:

"Perlmutter instigated a massive purge of resources, firing expensive executives, whittling the number of editors down from thirty to six, cancelling titles altogether, and even breaking Stan Lee’s lifetime deal to offer him a new contract at half the original amount."

Change is natural. Cutting down on expenses is too.

Eventually he can decide to remake marvel in his own image. Via firing anyone or reboot.
>>
>>89899216
>Change is natural. Cutting down on expenses is too.
From the same article:

"It's things like, 'Why do you need a new pencil? There's 2 inches left on that one!'" a top executive told The Hollywood Reporter. Under Perlmutter’s watch, memos were sent out demanding that employees not throw away paper clips and turn the lights off to save electricity, while freelancers started receiving overpayment notices claiming that they owed Marvel money. Those whose jobs were terminated weren’t even allowed to take comic books they’d worked on from the office, as they were claimed to be company property."

And:

"Perlmutter famously complained about a press event where journalists were given more than one soda; and a different press event for The Avengers once ran out of food for reporters, causing them to sneak over to a nearby competitor’s craft service table."

I mean, there's Jewing and then there's this motherfucker going full Shylock.

HydraCap pushed him out of a moving plane, he ended up in a coma, HydraCap was going to finish the job but then Liberty Belle said he was braindead and that they were going to disconnect him.

Honestly it feels a bit fishy to me especially if you consider the other deaths that happened in the comic turned out to be fake and there was a lot of emphasis on Jack being in a coma.

Also heck of a coincidence that Cathy told Cap they were going to disconnect Jack from life support when he was going to kill him.

If Jack Flag turns out to be the guy who starts HydraCap's downfall I'll be happy.

>Also it's the same damn writer on the Thor titles, ditto on the Cap titles, so much for variety.
This is the bigger issue, not the characters themselves. In the hands of a good creative team, these characters would be actual characters, not soapbox stand ins written as a "take that!" to white male patriarchy.

There's always going to be some bitching about legacy characters, especially legacies that are a different race/gender, but if the writing is solid and the stories are good, the people actually reading comics tend to be fine with it over time. Just look at Jaime Reyes; at first there was a ton of bitching about a teenaged hispanic BB replacing the recently departed Ted Kord, but Jaime was written well and proved himself as a decent legacy character. Marvel has some minority legacies characters that have generally been well received as well, like ANGR and Chulk, and it's all to do with the creative teams.
