Surprisingly good, and seems to get better with each passing season. Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk are fairly low budget and it shows, but still perfectly watchable (especially for the glimpses of awkward early Hiccstrid).

Yeah, it's been handled kinda awkwardly. By the end of the first movie it's clear that they are romantically involved to the point that Astrid isn't ashamed to show public affection, but through the series we only get like a handful of hugs.
And then in Race to the Edge, Astrid straight up denies liking Hiccup at all (even though she's clearly lying). I feel like the writers just weren't sure how to approach it so it comes off as disjointed.
Although, it should be noted there have been a few great moments for the ship, specifically Hiccup rescuing Astrid from drowning, and later when she gets sick and almost dies.
