Why did he quit acting?

I rewatched the series recently. The character designs can be ugly, and some of the stories and characters were a bit cliche. But there were a lot of smart and interesting episodes, and I really wish we got another season to continue expanding on the town and continuity.

Th episode that stick with me the most was when the dude with the 3D glasses found a time travel watch and at some point he broke it and ended up stuck in an island for years but at the end he found a way to fix it and travel back to the time he found the watch in first place

dude must've had ok parents, or just a decently level head, because he's one of the single-digit few who didn't completely implode after child stardom in the 2nd half of the 20th century
