Not every woman has to look like that but the swing to cover up every hero and make the art look terrible to the eye to be more 'realistic' is fucking stupid. 90s had a lot of fucking problems but it's almost to the point that I think it's better than current Marvel.

Yeah, this stuff is weird and stylized but I don't know if I'd call it bad per se. It accomplishes what it sets out to do, which is to tell a story with really fetishy proportions whereas someone like Liefeld is obviously failing to reach the goals he sets for himself by a wide margin.

This art isn't really to my taste but I can appreciate what it is and what it's trying to do, which is appeal to the aesthetics of the time when it was produced.

This page was badass to me back in the day though. As fun as it is to laugh at Liefeld, his art was very NOT Marvel house style and at the time that was refreshing as hell. All those future Image guys became super stars for a reason.

The reason Herb Trimpe drew like this is kind of sad. He was a classic Marvel artist. He drew Hulk at the height of the character's popularity in the 60s and 70s but he saw that the old guys were getting phased out in favor of new talent like Jim Lee and Liefeld.

So he tried to adapt in order to keep getting work.

He's great on certain titles. JRJR rules on Spidey, for instance, even in recent years. But his Avengers run was hot garbage, except the panels with Spidey.

It just goes to show how far connections and meeting deadlines can get you in the industry.

In fact, a comic agent I used to work with said their are three traits to a comic artist:

-Talent
-Meet deadlines
-Pleasant to work with

As long as you have at least two, you're guaranteed to be a comic artist. JRJR mostly has the 2nd and 3rd.
