The usual "Dumbing of Age" thread. This time, it features a bunch of girls who are now handling a friend's almost-rape instead of allowing the victim to be given some role in her attacker's comeuppance other than allowing this group to proceed with their plans.

>>
>>89827933
>God answers lesbian prayers
>Joyce prays to God asking to "put in a good word for Dorothy as the new R.A."
>Billie puts in a good word for Dorothy
Therefore, Joyce is a lesbian.

Though now I ask why if we're not meant to have a public debate between Dorothy and Roz, much less an election, why set up Roz as being more popular with the other students on the floor than Dorothy? That's analogous to taking a popular vote of sorts.

>>89827994
Honestly, I can't tell either. It's like Willis read the threads about how slowly the comic moves, and as a result he made everything move like sanic.mp3 to spite us.
>>
>>89827933
does this woman know there's pudding on her head?
>>
>>89827933
>And I'm guessing if nobody else is in the running it's because Ms. Sex Video herself here is too volatile to want to have to keep in check.
What the fuck?

What is Roz doing in Pudding Head's office? PH is clearly as good at her job as Ruth was at hers.
>>
The password is "volatile".

>>89828219
Roz filmed a sex-tape of herself and Joe and spread it around in a bid to undermine her older sister's political career. It didn't work.

As for why she's in PH's office, I would assume it's for the reasons of "Just because" and because Willis wanted her to hear whatever Billie had to say.

Obviously Becky prayed to have Dorothy installed as the new RA so she wouldn't have time to hang out with Joyce, thus allowing Becky to reclaim her spot as Joyce's #1 bestie. Unfortunately for her, Roz can use her Santerian whore magic to get revenge on Becky by seducing Dina.
>>
>>89829352
Ah. Yeah, I had to read it twice to understand what she was saying.

And to be honest, I still don't really get it. If Billie is saying that nobody wants to try and keep Roz in check, just say that.
"And I'm guessing that if nobody else is in the running, it's because because nobody wants to keep Little Miss Sex-Tape here in check."

Honestly, if the University had cared that much about Roz's actions, they'd have already expelled her or something. How does anybody like Roz at all, anyways?
>>
>>89829501
>Roz can use her Santerian whore magic to get revenge on Becky by seducing Dina.
tfw you don't practice Santeria
tfw you ain't got no crystal ball

Though I can honestly see Roz trying to go super-progressive by trying to score an autistic girlfriend. "Imagine what they'll say when they see that I'm not only eating out a girl, but I'm eating out an AUTISTIC girl!"
>>
>>89829518
>How does anybody like Roz at all, anyways?

She puts out. Seriously though, we've never seen her hang out with anyone other than Mary, it's entirely possible that she doesn't have any friends.
>>
>>89829560
It would be funny and sad if her only friend was Mary up until Roz got a picture of her shlicking to a drawing of Ronald Reagan.
>>
>>89829540
>tfw I had a million dollars but I spent it all

Roz trying to steal Dina from Becky to score progressive points would be a great mundane villain arc.

>>89829603
You've got that backwards, she took the picture of Mary schlicking to a drawing of Ronald Reagan so she could force Mary to be her friend.
>>
>>89829560
>>89829603
Roz is more apparently more well-liked than Dorothy. I can only assume that the majority of Willis' characters approve of Roz's horrible scheme to forcibly out her own sister and destroy her political career.
>>
>>89829702
>Roz trying to steal Dina from Becky to score progressive points would be a great mundane villain arc.
But with Willis' recent work ethic, I'd assume it would be over within days.
Seriously, this whole past month of strips feels like Willis just gave up. Did the election results REALLY hit Willis that hard?

>I can only assume that the majority of Willis' characters approve of Roz's horrible scheme to forcibly out her own sister and destroy her political career.
I'm pretty sure Willis got actual flack for that in the comments, at least until it... stopped?
I forget.
>>
>>89829719
That brings up an interesting point, just because she's well-liked doesn't mean she has friends. I think that you could make a good comparison between Roz and Sal. Both are ostensibly popular but both have only been shown to have a single person they're close to - Riley and Marcie respectively, both have strained relationships with their sibling, both have slept with someone for personal benefit, and both are perceived as rebellious.
>>
>>89829759
You could make it work within a few days.
>>
>>89829844
Sure, but just take a look at how Willis felt the need to solve every problem going on in the comic right now over the course of a single day.

It's as if "DoA" were a television show that assumed they were getting 26 episodes, but only got 13 and so they're scrambling to resolve the plotlines they had set up in the pilot episode within that limit.
>>
>>89829880
All I'm saying is that I want a story about a shitty, regressive left type chick trying to get into the pants of an autistic, Asian girl to shore up her cred with the alphabet gang with the best possible outcome having her getting the shit beat out of her.

I can't muster much to say about this one. I do like that Billie cussed even though she's talking to an authority figure.

Also, cutting away for a joke feels slightly better than ramming it into an awkward setting. It's not much of a joke, though, which is the biggest issue I have with these punchlines.
>>
>>89829430

Dunno, all I know about Brazil is they love the ass more than most people.
>>
>>89833864

>Using "coke" to refer to soft drinks in general

Seems confusing. Like coke's a specific type. It's pretty much the go-to default soda among everyone I know, though, so maybe it's something to do with that.

Floridafag here, btw. I use "soda", personally.
>>
>>89834659
In the South, we often say "What kind of Coke do you want?" and "Do you want a Coke?" And then you'd say what you wanted.

I honestly hear "soft drink" and "soda" most often, despite how you can ask anyone, and they'll say "Coke" is their preferred term.
>>
>>89834659
it's the extreme version of using Kleenex to mean tissue or Jell-o to mean gelatin
>>
>>89834659
>>89834681
It's not that weird. Coca-Cola was created in Atlanta and first bottled in Mississippi so it was the major brand in the South for a long time leading to genericization of the name.
>>
>>89834826

Guess that makes sense
>>
>>89828363
They usually are. You'll see more people calling bullshit on Roz, and the entire Leslie/Robin thing has been getting shat on since it started.

It's almost like Willis' fanbase doesn't like anti-gay republicans, even if he tries to make them secretly gay.
>>
>>89836494
Leslie/Robin's problem is that the original plot ended with them at the bar. Keeping Robin around afterwards doesn't make much sense, as the current political scandal storyline doesn't require Robin and Leslie to be in the same location. The other main issue is that a "person who opposes Y is secretly Y" story is only humorous as a one-and-done. It's a punchline that doesn't have long legs. If you're doing it as a drama then it becomes a tragedy, and that's inescapable even if the person in question is a complete asshole who does little to engender sympathy. Even if you despised Robin and wanted Roz to successfully out her the moment it actually happens you're suddenly hit in the face with empathy and ethical ramifications - especially if you're queer yourself. It's why no one likes Roz, she comes off as a goddamn sociopath completely uninterested in anything other than her own self-aggrandizement.
>>
>>89836804
>It's why no one likes Roz, she comes off as a goddamn sociopath completely uninterested in anything other than her own self-aggrandizement.
I can't think of a single good moment with her in it.
>>
>>89836804

Some of his more hardcore fans fully support Roz outing her. Cerb said they participated in efforts to find dirt on troublesome politicians and activists to out and discredit them.

It's part of the "They EXPECT us to be reasonable and nice so we'll be brutal and hateful" mindset some... or alot of SJWs fall into.
>>
>>89827933
>I was feeling shitty, and [Dorothy] sat down with me. Not saying it helped, but she was still there.

I doubt that's going to help Dorothy's case in any way. Chloe's pretty much giving her the brush-off right now. If anything, she's more likely to take Billie's first comment about hiring a freshman as an RA to heart.
>>
>>89837470
Cerb says lots of things. I'd be willing to bet all her efforts amount to is catfishing on Grindr.

>>89837383
I want Roz to obnoxiously insert herself into every storyline for the detriment of the people involved.

>It has come to my attention that the university is holding Ruth in a psych ward. They claim it's for depression and alcoholism, but we all know that it's really because Ruth and Billie are a lesbian couple. So I've sent around a petition demanding they let Ruth and Billie love each other in peace and also contacted a lawyer to have Ruth freed from the sex-negative hell she's in right now.
>>
>>89837383
>I can't think of a single good moment with her in it.
I liked when she told Joyce off in Leslie's class. I didn't like how she acted afterwards* but I liked that specific part.

*like when Leslie warned her to be more civil and Roz got incredibly defensive as if she had no right to see to Joyce's well-being and to run her class.
>>
I wish billie would just kill herself.
>>
>>89833864
>Colorado is almost entirely blue
I think the small speck of denver there is yellow, but this doesn't seem accurate at all. I've always heard "soda" no matter where in the state I've been to.
>>
>>89839764
Yeah, I'm in Alabama and I hear an even mix of "soda" and "Coke."
>>
>>89838720

The time Joyce realized what people like fundie Christians mean for certain groups of people and felt awful for it, only for Roz to jump in and kick her while she was down?

Seemed too meanspirited to be a "good moment". Especially when Roz's only stake in the matter is "they disapprove of me being a cumdumpster".
>>
>>89827933
>"I think it's utterly fuckin' ridiculous that anyone's even entertainng the idea of some freshman for R.A."

I really, really hate it when Willis recognizes that one of his plot's really fucking stupid while having no intention of actually fixing it.
>>
>>89841205
Yeah, it's entirely likely that if Joyce didn't have Becky around she could have backslid.
>>
>>89841205
I still look at it as important, because Joyce was blaming the church as separate from herself, and Roz put it in the context of how Joyce's blanket support of the church gives them the power to do that stuff.

>Especially when Roz's only stake in the matter is "they disapprove of me being a cumdumpster".
I don't like Roz because she's conniving and shitty to others. I don't really care if she wants to fuck a million guys, and I agree that no one should just get to berate her for that. What I can't stand is stuff like her forcing Dorothy to come to a party to get a scoop (which turned out to be dangerous as fuck), manipulating (and disrespecting) her teacher to do irreparable damage to her sister, and even turning the RA race into a popularity thing and using it as an excuse to bash another woman's personality.

She does all this stuff that shows she doesn't really respect anyone who isn't her, all while demanding everyone respects her without fault. Even her porno was like that, pushing people into telling fuck stories, and then shitting all over Billie's because it wasn't good enough.
>>
>>89843570

>I still look at it as important, because Joyce was blaming the church as separate from herself, and Roz put it in the context of how Joyce's blanket support of the church gives them the power to do that stuff.

But the thing is that Joyce is practically blameless here. She's been sheltered from birth up until a handful of weeks prior to this point when she went away to college. Before then, she had absolutely no exposure to the "black" in her parents' and elders' black-and-white worldview, other than what was allowed.

But only a few days after exposure to the real world, she's shifted her worldview to accommodate and empathize with people and groups she's been taught to fear and almost despise. She pretty much emerged from Plato's cave, immediately took in, accepted, and began conforming to the real world, only for Roz to come along and go "Lol wtf you should have known about this shit earlier".

Anger should be reserved for people who grow up, enter the real world, and stubbornly refuse to accept what stares them in the face. Not for bashing those capable and willing to change for the better as soon as they're able. It'll just end up alienating possible allies and sympathizers.
>>
Why is this comic so bad!!!

Also, did anyone post this week's pin up?
>>
>>89843570
The one thing that gives me hope with the fandom is that, when Roz chewed out Joyce, a good half of them were calling her out for being such a bitchy bitchy bitch.

Willis tries to play her as a devil's advocate sort of character. The one who remorselessly does morally ambiguous or shitty things but is occasionally right and does shitty things with some charm. Like Coyote in GC or Doc Scratch in Homestuck. But he's too lazy to do it right, so more and more people are going to give him shit about it.

>>89844503

>>
>>89843974
Sometimes I feel like if she were a real person, Roz would be using Joyce as a substitute for her issues with Mary. Like Mary would disengage or offer a rebuttal if Roz started soapboxing so Roz goes after Joyce since Joyce is a combination of sheltered, naive, and easily flustered that allows Roz to dominate the argument.
>>
>>89843974
I agree that Joyce has generally been open and accepting, but Roz wasn't witness for any of that. Their biggest interaction is her telling Roz some bullshit about her soul flower being tarnished. Other than that, Roz gets the rest of her image of Joyce from her espousing traditional views in their gender class. Even now she still defaults to those opinions when stuff comes up, like that one time Leslie admitted she was at Robin's rally.

Even then, Roz 100% called it, she posits that the only reason Joyce is considering being anti-church, because someone close to her is experiencing issues, and that's precisely the case. Not that there's anything specifically wrong with that, people often can't decide until an issue is right in front of them, but the comment did really push Joyce to examine how her views could hurt others.

I think there are nicer ways she could've went about it, and she crossed the line immediately afterwards, but I honestly don't have any issue with that moment. I will totally agree that when you put it in a larger context of her shitty treatment of people, it becomes harder to defend and justify, though.
>>
>>89846727
Being right doesn't justify being an asshole about it.
>>
>>89846957
yes, it does.
>>
>>89846727
Except it's equally narrow-minded to form an entire opinion of someone based on what they say during class. Even then, Roz started berating her for coming around to how Roz wanted her to think. Functionally Roz was gatekeeping as her argument was that Joyce wasn't good enough to have her epiphany. Saying that Joyce can't just talk the talk but has to walk the walk would be fine, but Roz was pretty much telling Joyce that she'll always be shit because of how she used to be.

It should also be noted that at no point in the comic strip have we seen Roz "walk the walk." All her actions have been in opposition to her sister and/or to benefit herself.
>>
>>89847145

>>89847314
Exactly. It does no good to criticize someone for agreeing with you for the first time. It just makes them less likely to appreciate their own change of heart.

It would be like asking someone to bring you chicken soup whenever you're free, and then, when they bring you the soup, you tell them that they took too long. All it does is make them wonder if they should have brought you the soup at all.

I also hail from the land of drunken Irishmen and Tom Brady, and I would punch a dude in the nuts if he ordered a soda by saying "tonic". The only time you use the word "tonic" ordering a drink is if it's preceded by the words "gin and"

Your cousins are fuckwits.
>>
>>89851640
>How come Mary isn't in this Gender Studies class too?
Because she already knows what she wants to know about it. She has her own opinions and ideas about what gender roles should be. She doesn't seem to like gay people and stuff, so she has no reason to take a class that is perceived to be only taken by lesbians.
>>
>>89852198
I don't think I've ever heard anyone use "tonic" for anything other than gin and tonic. People say "tonic water" if they're talking about tonic water by itself.
>>
>>89854543
But the class is a requirement, isn't it? All of the freshmen should be in at least one class section of the course, at least if that's the case.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Willis really needs to make (or should have already made) class schedules for all of the characters. I feel like the extent of his scheduling is "There are these classes, and these characters take them on these days." It feels like they only take one or two classes in an entire week, and the rest of their time is spent doing nothing.
>>
>>89854759
It's not required at most schools, I think. And even if it is, you can take your gen eds in whatever order you want to take them.

Before they stopped requiring the class altogether, there were seniors in University Experience. I took my basic math class my last semester of undergrad. If you finish "on time" (after exactly 4 years), then you have 8 semesters in which to take your general education classes. Even if it's required, Mary could elect not to take it until her senior year.
>>
>>89854759
>>89854844
A Gender Studies class would never be a requirement for an art degree. According to the IU website, which I don't think Willis realize exists and is full of information he should be using, for a freshman in a Studio or Fine Art degree Mary could take the course to fill either her College of Arts & Sciences gen ed requirement or to fill an elective slot. However at no point would she be obligated or required to take the course.

Maybe Amber is pissed at Amazi-Girl for getting along with Sal? That seems like something Willis would write.

>Insane vigilante telling someone to "keep out of trouble, now"
Gross. Also, I thought she had shamed herself into not treating Sal like a criminal.

It's everyone's favorite time! What time is it?!?

Midnight Misconstruction with Cerberus!

Tonight, we answer the question: is Amazi-Girl the most racist piece of shit that has ever lived? She sure is! Watch her sploosh in her tights at the thought of beating and oppressing a black girl she's being friendly with! A girl who Willis only considers 'blacker' than her twin brother because of her history with crime and poor temperament, but we don't talk about that..
>>
>>89856994
>why she took her mask off
She's "Amber" again in panel 3, hence the circle blushies. So she has to take it off to...reassert her identity? Wipe her sweat? It still doesn't make much sense.
>>
>>89857286

Ay, Cerb and Co. are nuts.

I really wonder what Willy truly thinks of them. It's fairly obvious in almost every case that Cerberus reads FAR further into what Willy writes than he intends.

Cerb thinks Joe is an awful, pseudo-rapist piece of shit, when Willy merely treats him as a one-track-minded but ultimately harmless and comic sex-seeker.

Cerb thinks Roz is the Holy Knight of the SJW Order whose actions and intent are righteous, when Willy, at best, treats her as the Token Evil Teammate of the SJW cause.

Cerb thinks Amber's treatment of Sal is purely based on racism and white privilege of somesuch, rather than purely the result of a traumatizing experience carried out by Sal and Sal alone some years prior.
>>
>>89856768
Amber just couldn't hold off that shit after panel 3?
>>
>>89857791
It's especially obvious that Willis changed his characterization of Carla after Cerb started projecting HARD onto her. Willis' general policy seems to be "write the comic to appeal to whoever praises me the most".
>>
>>89856994
>I don't really get why she took her mask off, seems like a dumb move. It's not like it restricts her breathing.
To be fair, when you're having a panic attack, it can be the weirdest things that feel restrictive. I find taking off my glasses (if I'm wearing them) helps. The more I can keep away from the upper half of my body, the better. Even shirts that have normal collars can feel suffocating.

Protip: don't have a panic attack while in a corset in a public place. It is terrible.
>>
>>89857344
>>89856994
The mask, and her Amazi-Girl persona in general, is needed to protect herself from having to deal with Sal. Or maybe protect them from Amber when she goes into a super freakout stabbing spree.
>>
>>89858326
I wonder how much Cerb contributes to Willis' patreon?

Wow. As a black person this almost pisses me off more than anything.
This has NOTHING to do with race. Sal literally robbed Amber with a knife and now she's Amber's PTSD based trigger that causes her to react violently.

Is Amber right? No.
Is Sal right? No.
Is this because of racism? Hell no, kill yourself.

The lower lip biting, the sudden facial flushing, she totally just orgasmed to Sal's firm dismissal. One day Sal's going be knocked unconscious only to wake up tied to a bed in a supervillain costume and strap-on with Amber riding her while crying and calling her "mommy."
>>
>>89863273
It seems more in character that Amber wants to be tied up and spanked by Sal while she calls her a failure and strips her costume off with a knife.
>>
>>89862638
That is incorrect, and you have no proof
>>
>>89859143
She doesn't need the mask to become Amazi-Girl, though, and this is, I think, the first time we've ever seen her drop out of it into a panic. The whole point is that she becomes AG to avoid breaking down*, and we've never seen her have to recover afterwards like this. I think it's a really weird way to reintroduce Amber still having trouble with Sal.

*Like after Sal saved Amazi-Girl with her bike, she woke up as Amber, started to freak out, and then instantly went into AG.
>>
>>89860265
>ex
Dude was bitter she had moved on and started seeing others after breaking up and he couldn't, so he spilled the beans on what he learned on the internet.

>It's not moving on if you don't move on
She was emotionally abusive and manipulative. Half of his post was warning about that. Then it gets spun into a misogyny scapegoat and it all trailed down from there. She fucking pulled strings and got people on her side.

Personally, when one side says that they're concerned about the ethics and truth in publishing, and in response those same outlets publish nothing but slander and namecalling, it's hard not to see that the first side might've had a point.
>>
>>89871974
Specifically, Gender Studies is one of those throwaway GE courses that are seen as easiest to complete. The only real use for a Gender Studies degree is to teach Gender Studies. It's insular like that.
>>
>>89872278
Are you really still pushing the 'ethics and truth in publishing' meme?

There has always been a questionable relationship between journalists and games. Namely, big games from big companies who have the dosh to bribe reviewers. Massive ad campaigns for games that couldn't stand on their own (*cough*Watch_Dogs*cough*). Review sites that just wouldn't give any game less than an 8 if it was being pushed by a big company and was technically playable. There was always shit to get mad about.

But yes, the fact that gamergate happened to start with and focused primarily on female members of the community who had as much influence on videogames as a fart in a windstorm is just coincidence, I'm sure.
>>
>>89872326
I don't mind gender studies that much. I mind it when they become requirements for degrees that have nothing to do with studying human behaviour.

I've seen the same thing happen with math, surprisingly. People who are trained to be nurses and caretakers of the elderly, on a very low educational level, are required for some insane reason to be able to calculate the surface of a circle and average velocities.

Things they will never use in their field and that only serve to hold them back from getting their diploma. All because some politician decided it was required.

It's some bullshit on both sides of the fence.
>>
>>89872554

>>
>>89872597

>>
>>89872326
There are practical uses for it. Human Resources. Women-focused advertising. Gives you a few extra avenues to rely on if you're going into law or psychology or nursing or any profession where traditionally female issues like abortion might come up.

And it's not like degrees that are ostensibly useless are exclusive to liberal arts. The typical purpose of mathematicians ends up being creating other mathematicians, after all.
>>
>>89873002
Shh, you don't want to rile up the STEM majors. Or if that's what you're looking to do remind them that mathematics and most sciences are liberal arts.
>>
>>89856768

In any case, it would appear Willis is backing off from the whole DID thing by making it seem like Amber is playing a character when Amazi-Girl, which is what it always SHOULD have been, but for the most part (or at least relatively recently) has been presented as Amber shifting into a new personality altogether.
