The extra character is male (he refers to the characters as a "him"), and not one of the original Guardians so that leaves Bug, Jack Flag, and Adam Warlock. Gunn can't use Bug and he wouldn't write the second script with Bug knowing he couldn't use him and it sure as hell wasn't Jack Flag.

It's obvious Gunn was going to add Adam Warlock in vol 2 but had to take the character out and he won't outright directly name him because they might still be plans for him.

Man, they could've easily had Ultron fully take over, then introduced the timestone as a soft 'undo'.
Would've allowed them to legitimize Ultron as a threat, show him killing heroes and taking over countries without the risk of fucking up the extended universe for future movies. Throw in some lasting emotional scars for the heroes who have to experience Ultron taking over, and you have an easy set up for tension in Civil War.

First act, Ultron is created, takes over -> Thor tells them about the Timestone, it takes them back to a bit after Ultron was created.

Second act, Ultron turns again, fully wrecks shit, starts killing heroes -> Que montage of Cap / Tony repeatedly going back only to see things get worse and worse, eventually edging into full on Age of Ultron territory. In one attempt, Ultron realizes what they're trying to do, and fights them for the stone. Cap/Tony/Ultron get sent back.

Final act, Ultron now knows about the stone, final battle happens in Africa / Sokovia / Where ever the fuck the stone is supposed to be. Quicksilver dies in the process, but they kill Ultron and get the stone. Team Cap wants to use the stone to go back and save QS, but Team Tony doesn't think they'll be able to stop Ultron again. Oh gosh, emotional tension. Movie ends.

The script writes it's self.

I highly doubt he'd be in avengers 3. Avengers 4 and GotG 3 makes much more sense. Everyone says they're filming 3 and 4 at the same time, and that's largely untrue. From january through april is all avengers 3. Maybe minor stuff for 4, but they're filming effects heavy scenes for avengers 3 now so they can work on them first. So Adam Warlock, Ant-man, Wasp, Carol, people appearing in avengers 4 could potentially be found out this summer when they start filming more of that movie.

You guys are forgetting that Captain Marvel is coming out between the two Avengers movies. It's quite possible they'll introduce Adam in Infinity War (maybe at the end or a small cameo) and then he'll get expanded on in Carol's movie. One of the screenwriters of Captain Marvel recently said that the movie is quite tied up to the MCU universe/overreaching storyline because it's coming out right after Infinity War.

None of the Infinity Stones match up properly to the Infinity Gems.
The Mind Stone, for example, can twist people's personalities, but that was actually what the Soul Gem did in the comics. The Mind Gem just gave you telepathic powers (and kept Thanos sane for a while). AoU also had Ultron's mind contained within the Mind Stone, but again that's a power that would fit the Soul Gem of the comics. But it's not like they just mixed the names up, because Loki also used the Mind Stone (still in the Scepter) to telepathically communicate with Thanos and The Other, which is a power that the Mind Gem would give but not the Soul Gem.

Nothing about the Gems or their storyline can be thought of as evidence of what can or can't happen in the film.

The Norse and Greek gods in Marvel are actually a race of alien thoughtforms who are shaped by belief. It's not referenced often outside of Thor and Loki remembering the events of the myths differently (because there are multiple conflicting versions of each myth) but they aren't who/what they think they are.
