Star vs. Evil

As a Star expert I can tell you right now for an absolute fact, having gotten some sweet inside information, that endgame ship will be nothing.

Marco now has the mind of a 30-year-old and can't bring himself to get too close to the literal children who surround him, no matter what their feelings toward him might be (and they definitely MIGHT BE). Even a chaste Disney kiss or handhold now seems unspeakably filthy when you consider that he's technically lived for over twice their lifetimes, and presumably is now more sexually experienced than them as well.

The last episode is Marco explaining all of this to the other characters and the audience for half an hour, concluding the series with "Pedophilia is always wrong, and if you disagree, YOU'RE the real monster!"

He then rides off into the night on his dragoncycle while the female characters may or may not kill themselves in grief.

He realized that he's wasting his life by cooping himself in his room and taking shortcuts and that he wants to have a life worth living. So if deep down you want to be a samirai then do it. This was sort of the impression I got. He committed to this course of action without thinking it fully through or understanding that Hekapoo wasn't just taunting him when she said it might take lifetimes, and once he was in he likely didn't have a way to return home without tracking down Hekapoo.

We'll likely never know how he coped with things or dealt with things--that's not really the point of the episode, after all--but by the time we check back in with him, he's clearly enjoying where he is over where he was.

I think in terms of shipping it's because he's like the only male character who's not middle-aged, evil, or both and also has an actual personality beyond one single trait. There are more young, attractive female characters across the board and since this isn't Steven Universe not a lot of lesbian shipping, so Marco's like the only desirable candidate.

On the male side there's also Tom, I guess, but then people seem to ship him with Marco more than anyone else so it's the same principle.

Also there seems to be a delay between entering and aging up; we saw Marco in there for a couple minutes without aging so same could have happened with Star.

I don't really understand the appeal of starco, Star and Marco' have a great chemistry as friends, hooking them up doesn't really add anything worthwhile to the story it just introduces unnecessary drama that could just as easily be added by giving them their own separate relationships, plus it increases the possibility of bad writing destroying the best chemistry in the show.

There's a reason why girlfriends in cartoons are secondary characters who only show up every so often. Or if they do hook up the MCs they save it for the last episode.

So what do you guys think Star's title is going to be once she's queen? I'm going to guess it's Star the Unifier as in she's going to be the one to end the kingdom's reign over Mewni and usher in an era of unity among the Mewmans and monsters. She already has a monster ally in Buff Frog and we've seen her be kind to Ludo's minions in the past. It would also tie in with the whole cleaving things together deal that Glossaryck talked about.

for a diverse set of paths and pretty good writing, go for Katawa Shoujo. its free and quite endearing.

stay the hell away from most anything on steam, ESPECIALLY the Sakura series. fuckin cancer. while there are a few hidden gems on steam, they can get strangely pricey.

another good indie title is delz. bit of a mindfuck, too. there's even a route that breaks the 4th wall. the game really shows how important your choices are.

in my opinion americans make better visual novels then asians, BUT thats just personal taste. and i got tired as hell of the same shit over and over again.

A lot of indi VN use renpy at least in the west. Unless you're married to writing it up from scrach it's worth a look at. Unity is another possible engine.

Second you need to decide on whether it's for story or lewds.
If it's for lewds than you're going to have to work your ass on CGs because they're your main draw unless you want to FS/N it and just chuck lewds in to prop up what would otherwise be a story focused game.
If it's for story you have two factors to consider: Length/structure so we're talking the pacing of scenes the length of chapters/parts and over all length. The other thing to consider is the web of choices. How is the story going to diverge? Is it going to converge? Will there be different endings or do you have the sack to make it different routes breaking off a main route. Will there be bad ends? Will there be true end variation to other routes/endings.

The writing may not be amazing but at this point it's kind of stupid to play the "lol just dumb cartoon" card.

The Marco stuff probably won't be followed up on, but if anything that's only because the show has a bunch of other plot points that we know the rest of the season concerns. During season 1 the whole argument about it not being very deep could kind of stand up, but now it's clearly been aiming for more prominent storylines this entire season.

Whether it actually succeeds at telling them well is another issue, but we're pretty firmly in deep lore shit now is all I'm saying.

I'm hoping for a future episode, that they very briefly flash an image of Marco's comb-over flipping up to reveal the bald spot that Heckapoo gave him. Nothing mentioned, just one or two frames. That would be some nice continuity.

If they do this, I'll forgive them butchering the transition from 30 year old Marco back to 14 year old Marco.

Mr Candle Cares is nice. A few funny bits, some shipping jokes, and seeing Marco and Tom hang out/bond is cool.

Red Belt is mediocre.

Star on Wheels is uninteresting but decently funny. Not amazing but I like it more than most of the fuck around episodes from season 1.
