This. Couldn't jack it to loli for a whole week after reading it.
>>
>>89781868
I think Clarissa tries too hard. Instead of clearing exploring the intricacies of a life as a victim, it just go "HEY GUYS I'M BEING RAPED" at every 4 panels.

You can only do this a few times without losing the meaning of it all without making it banal and almost an offence to anyone with a similar problem.

I think he was trying to go for the way the germans viewed it, as a superior species wiping out a lesser one without any guilt, just like cats hunt mice without guilt.

I agree that it would have worked better if they were all mice, though, because it comes off as dehumanizing everyone.

Interesting, but I am not convinced. As before, cats hunting mice is just the way it is. If there are only mice to hunt, cats must hunt them lest they starve. Of course on an "individual" scale it's tragic for one mouse, but on the other hand it's great for the cat making the hit as it will survive.
>>
>>89785736
perhaps a more apt metaphor would have been humans burning ants with magnifying glasses, but that's not as interesting to draw and ants aren't fuzzy and sympathetic.

Eh, I thought some things were handled pretty well

You see she's developing obvious problems, losing herself to fantasy to escape real life (Bring Your Kids To Work Day comic). You see she's tried to hint to people what is going on, too afraid to directly tell someone (School comic). You see she's started taking it out on herself, victim-shaming herself (Bath comic).

If not for shit like this no one would give a crap

>>
>>89799006

Not sure. I guess it's about how we're all connected in some way and how people only tangentially connected cross paths, each with their own story to tell.

I don't think it's depressing, though. I think it's rather inspirational. The bully, in the beginning, grows up happy. Some people who started off happy grow up to be shitty adults, kids who learn to hate grow up to get over prejudices, etc. Just kind of interesting.
>>
>>89785424
The most depressing part was that it seemed like no one especially the dad learned a single thing people didn't l change for the better no one was enlightened into respecting everyone equally in the end it showed exactly what happened millions of people were treated horribly and killed by assholes but when it ended that's it life goes on

I remember meeting with Brian Clevinger in the artist's alley last year, and I asked him about Warbot. He told me how he planned to end the series, and that it was just impossible to meet up with the artist at all so it never saw completion.

He also told me that he never told anyone the ending before, but I think he was probably bullshitting me. If it's though true I can retell it of you guys want.

And mice/rats irl are scum bag that will eagerly tear apart a kitten if they get their claws on one, not to eat it but simply to get one less predator to compete with ( since rats are omnivorous, thus are both prey and predator)

Pretty much the same problem with every analogy using animals : We tend to accentuate the humans aspect within the given animals as to exemplify a quality/flaw of ourselves but alas tend to disregard the aspect of the animal that goes directly against our nature or tend to bring shame in ourselves. We easily see the falcon as brave as it rush valiantly from the highest height down to the earth on a moment notice and without hesitation, yet we barely consider the reason behind the act itself, was it done valiantly or was it because the prey was the easiest target in sight?

Kids don't entirely understand the concept of death until about 5-6.

Even if you explained it like he's going to sleep forever (which is still mentally infeasible to a kid that young), a kid still wouldn't completely understand why you put someone in a box and burying it in the ground.

>>
>>89809058

So basically there only a limited number of time the world can be saved and after its the end no matter what? Wouldn't that make the entire story pointless from the start? Except if they only keep writing up more character to replace the fallen one, but then it would defeat the entire purpose of the mech being one-use-per-life.

Sound like the kind of story that sound good if you don't think too much about it
>>
>>89809764
Does it make more sense if you can actually quote The Simpsons in every conversation?
>>
>>89809886
No, it's just a tool for the story.

What brought Jim momentary comfort was illusory. He's talking to what's functionally a parrot, mimicking happy memories when prompted. Whether he meant to or not, he picked a quote that confirmed the person he loves is an empty shell and then asks him to let him go.

The point is that Jim fooled himself. He made himself believe his brother was just disabled and the quotes brought some happiness, but his brother is functionally dead. It's not deep or anything, but it's disheartening that some anons don't seem to get the actual idea behind it.
>>
>>89786790
I really think "A cold" means something different in Japanese because nobody dies or passes out or starts coughing up blood from a fucking cold

The idea would have hit harder if Alan actually talked in anything beyond Simpsons quotes before the accident. Hey fellas, good thing thia thread is still alive!

So you remember how Warbot started volunteering at the old folk's home? Well he ends up becoming really close with this one old lady. He takes her for walks in the park, feeds ducks, and plays games with her. All the while the old lady is smiling and laughing saying "you're my favorite refrigerator". Warbot is happy and fulfilled nontheless.

So they're having a good time for a while, until the old lady falls deathly ill. Warbot is constantly visiting her, meanwhile her family is nowhere to be seen. He brings her flowers, watches tv with her, basically trying to make the most of her last moments. The old lady relents that her family never visited her, but is thankful for Warbot and even said that he's the best friend she ever had. That she has never been happier in her life.

One day Warbot is visiting and the coroner walks out of her room. It turns out she had passed on already. Warbot attends the viewing and the funeral. Eventually an estate lawyer gets the family together to discuss the inheritance. It turns out the old lady was relatively wealthy. Warbot shows up as well.

So the lawyer reads off the will and it says:
"In my final moments, I met someone who changed my life forever. I owe him all of my happiness. Thus I leave everything I own to my refrigerator"

Everyone laughs and the family says "Oh, that crazy old grandma!"
Warbot looks on from the back in silence.

The reason not to read them you dense fuck is that they were a sub-molecular cultural niche when they were out in America and were not even mainstream in Japan (Their popularity in Japan, I will admit is not something I am aware of). That's a big reason not to take a series that is just rising in popularity and spoiling it.

What I don't get about Melissa is why the rest of the family doesn't just go to the cops with this shit. They just allow it to keep happening. That's not right. That's not how you do things. They're completely complicit with it.

Even that picture Melissa drew should have given that teacher the idea that something is horribly wrong. I mean it's impossible to NOT see it.

My father left my mother right after my son was born. Turns out he had been having an affair with her for years and sent me a letter saying he didn't think I was his son. Told me I should try to connect with my real dad to find out my medical history. The last thing I sent to him was a birthday card telling him how proud I was to be his son and how everything I would know about being a dad came from him. My son is almost two years old now, and he's never seen his grandfather. Probably never will.

I think we get exactly one panel of sane Rorschach before the breakdown, and that's fascinating to me. He's talking with the others at the first meeting of Ozymandias's attempt at a new supergroup (where Comedian sets his posterboard on fire). Rorschach is congenial and pleasant and politely expresses himself with a very normal-shaped word balloon about how a group of this size would be unwieldy and unsuited for the current troubles of the world. The fact that we get that one and only one panel is fascinating to me. He was always a bit unbalanced, but a good person at heart who could relate to others and really did have a strategically brilliant mind. Then the dogs happened and Kovacs closed his eyes.

Rorschach being broken was an important part of his character.

He was a man with iron clad moral rules, whether you agreed with them or not, whether he was sane or not, he always followed his own rules.

That's one of his biggests internal clashes. When he saw what happened to that girl he wanted out of the world. He had seen to much ugliness and wanted to quit, but his own rules stopped him. He claims "as long as there is life, there is hope" and "we don't do this because we are allowed to, but because we are compelled", which is also why can't kill himself, but he'd rather be done with the world.

He is the idealist with a moral code who can't stand the world anymore, and that is the most interresting part of his character. So it is no wonder we barely see anything of him when he used to be sane.
