So am I the only one who would have liked it if instead of everyone just going to Misteral we had something else this season? I kinda wish that Yang's ark was different. Pyrrha always felt kind of "fake" to me.
Like just the way she talked, as if every word she said was carefully measured to make sure she doesn't offend anyone, it felt like she was living an act. Like its as if Mistral has a huge paparazzi element, and being a big star she's kind of like how Japan/Korea is with Idols, and she cant risk offending her fans and everyone so she's always putting on this show of being a super nice and humble polite girl.

I don't know how common this sentiment is, but for me Never Miss A Beat felt really fillery aside from the first minute and the last minute of the episode. As for Yang, she's currently charging through the Mistrali wilderness heading for the city, and Blake is most likely going to find the Mistral Fang cell hiding out in that same wilderness just like Adam did back in Vale

RWBY can go back to Monty's style of fights. Here's the formula:

1) Maneuverability: all of Monty's fights focus on agile fighters who move quickly and with specific abilities: Ruby; speed semblance, Weiss; Sigils Blake; shadow clones; Yang; Shotgun boosts

2) Hit counts. In Monty's fights the number of hits are always very, very high. Kicks, punches and blocks are constant and unrelenting and they don't do short sections of basic combat, they are always longer sections of his work.

3) Technique. Each fighter had their own style of fighting that could be boiled down to a geometric type of motion. Ruby spins, Weiss linges, Blake flips and Yang punches forward.

4) Editing: Season three had a number of bad fights and what killed most of them was clunky editing. Reaction shots inter-cut into the action scenes always seemed to slow down the pace. Monty did not break for reaction shots unless the battle changed in some significant way (Watch the Red trailer for Beowulf and Ruby's reaction when the difficulty levels up). In order to get reactions he would just put reactions into the action sequences not as closeups, so expressions would just be a part of the fight. Each cut flows into the next cut without breaking, interrupting or shortening the action sequence and he wasn't afraid of editing long brawler segments, far longer than anything we've seen from RT since Monty's death. Monty's editing style never let anything slow down unless it was to show that the stakes of the fight were about to change.

5) Slow motion: Monty always found a way to intercut a slow motion segment into a cinematic fight, but he wouldn't do it unless the image that it created would be portrait perfect. He knew to use slow motion to make a single split second of an action scene into something more like a painting.

6) Stakes: The stakes in a Monty fight always ratchets up as the fight goes forward. The viewer is increasingly interested in the outcome as the stakes get higher.

I'll give you the editing, but everything else you mentioned is something they're pinning down more and more in volume 4. We've seen more of Ruby's recoil hopping and circular motions lately
As for long brawler segments, the show is starved for screen time, in volume 4 especially. There simply isn't time for long drawn fight scenes when the plot needed to be laid out for the future

7) Investment: The viewer must be invested in the fight as it goes on, and if the previous rules are followed the viewer will be invested and the fight sequence will have become more interesting as the scene has unfolded.

8) Tag teaming. With either heroes or villains the fighters would swap out, be replaced or have new opponents. This follows off of the stakes increasing but even as the number of fighters increased the fights on screen rarely number more than two against one. Replacement fighters should fill slots in the fight but no one should ever outnumber anyone else by more than 2 to 1, unless it's a special attack that takes out a group.

9) Signature move/sequence: Every Monty fight, though it was based on fighting styles that were defined for each character had a unique choreography that the others didn't. This means even though you saw the same girls using the same moves they would be choreographed differently in at least one segment that made each one stand out as not necessarily better but different from the fight scenes previously shown, so each one had a unique look in at least one segment that made it stand out.

10) Payoff: The hard work of the battle, along with the victory of the fighter has to reward the viewer for having seen the whole thing. The end of a fight must have a dramatic visual cue to indicate the winner has overcome a hard battle and the viewer shares in that elation.

If RT took these notes and drilled it into their animation team they can be back to Monty's level of fight choreography this year.
