my own pet theory is that he's trying to find peace after dying somehow.
slightly unrelated, but i think his character arc is starting to come into view a bit now. both mod and rgb have stated that hes a coward and he needs someone to be his hero, but i think now that he's attached to Hero he's trying to be *her* hero instead (though he doesnt quite realise it yet) or she's making him face his own fears
