No, like Jade Chan, Donald's nephews and I'm certain quite a bit of others at the time, the nephew/niece character was made for the specific reason of giving the character a kid side-kick. An unrelated kid can't be let to tag along on dangerous missions with a stranger, a son/daughter going on dangerous adventures would make the hero look like an irresponsible parent, but a relative both gives the excuse of why the hero was entrusted with them and shields him from direct ire because the responsibility is shared with the kid's parents who have dumped them on the hero.

It also endears the audience to the parental/uncle figure who is a relative (safe designation) making them seem cool or at least more enjoyable. Donald gets our sympathy for being saddled with his nephews, Inspector Gadget may be clumsy but by being in his care, the REAL hero of the show ( a child) gets to continuously defeat and foil what is essentially a terrorist organization.

I never been familiar with the typical father/daughter dynamic since my father never treated me like a princess and just treated me like he did my brother and because of that I always related to the father/son dynamics I see on tv even more.

But yeah I never really had daddy issues or any of that creepy shit some women develop, my father is a good father.

It's scary to remember that I'm in the minority for having growing up with a generally stable family.

I wasn't really the "princess" of the house either, just his only and therefore favorite daughter, heh. Maybe part of the reason we were so stable was that everyone in the house was introverted with quiet hobbies. My dad and I liked to watch shows and movies a lot. We watched the Simpsons and Futurama a lot together and that's part of what got me back into /co/ stuff after I was supposed to outgrow it. We never had a special series like Hawk and Chick but we referenced stuff we watched all the time.

Now I trick him into watching 4chan-core like "Look Who's Back."

Sorry for blogposting, I'm just glad to have my dad and the Hawk and Chick stuff really brings back memories.

Maybe someday I'll have my own child to indoctrinate into my patrician (shit) tastes. Remember, /co/, you're responsible for the next generation. Teach them well.
