What do you mean by comic book hoax? can you list an example or two?

For hoaxes, I don't understand. Ordinarily a hoax is creating false evidence for something that does not exist. How would that apply to comics? Like publishers fudging numbers with giveaways and lootcrate?

Literally any comic where someone dies but reappear later saying s/he was only pretending.
