Marvel seriously keeps on not giving a shit about X-Men, it seems. I honestly don't get. So what if Fox own the movie rights? You're going to ignore the potential awareness it brings to your brand? This is a shame though. There is nothing wrong with having some political shit going on. It just doesn't need to be every book.

Even in Rebirth you still have a smarter title like Deathstroke, and there's of course Flintstones and the Vertigo books not doing standard stuff. Marvel needs to find the balance. Getting rid of all of one thing is not the answer.

Oh how I hope all this is true. I'd love to see Marvel honor the deals they amde regarding the X Men AND they Fantastic Four by restoring them to former and new glory. I think its a mistake to be a weasel on a major deal, and even more so to say you wont promote the books you own because it might benefit the deal you got rich from but dont want to honor anymore. Why would they ever think its a good idea to take a back seat on defining what their properties are for todays readers? By not promoting the X Men properly or the Fantastic Four they are allowing those characters to be shaped and redefined by the other parties. if i were marvel i would produce the worlds best X Men and FF stories even if i never got to make a movie with them.

The system from 2001 on was basically that they looked for indie talent and also the established writers brought along other writers, like Brubaker co-wrote Iron Fist with Fraction when Fraction was new to Marvel. Fraction brought in Remender who brought in Gerry Duggan, I think.

That system seemed to fall apart after a lot of the writers left to focus solely on their own work. But it's still really hard to make a living from Image comics unless you're one of the few big names in the business.

He has a conversation with Jean out of nowhere and suddenly he's gay. Despite decades of established history with Iceman liking the ladies, which is all handwaved away in like 2 speech bubbles with him just being so deep in the closet he doesn't even know he's in it.

And then after that being gay became the focal point of Icekid's character, where it just completely obliterated any other traits of the character. Every time he came up in a scene it was something to do with his sexuality or angsting about his sexuality. He'd be hitting on cute cashiers or other characters would be wingmanning for him at gay bars. Outside of obligatory team fights that was like all he did anymore.

And this all culminated in him falling in love at first sight with some Inhuman conveniently named Romeo, for whom he betrays and abandons all of his teammates and friends who have fought at his side and bled together for and who have saved his life and vice versa, despite literally having met this dude last week. He even says "I'll switch sides, I'll fight."

tl;dr: people are complaining about the overt tokenism and pandering at the cost of the character's integrity (both in and out of universe) more than anything else.
