Here's my theory: Due to their similar "gemetics" (IRL, they're both varieties of corundum), Rubies & Sapphires come from the same kindergarten. However, Rubies are only made in hopes of mining at least one sapphire in the bunch. That explains why the Homeworld uses the gem equivalent of Banana Guards as their front line troops; as a by-product of creating more useful gems, they're essentially expendable.

Alright. So I'm a geologist. Now, I'm going to speak of copper carbonates. Malachite is a copper carbonate, which you can see when copper wears down due to exposure. It's the green shit you see.

So! Malachite=Lapis Lazuli+Jasper

But! There exists a copper silicate chrysocolla. That would make more sense, at least with Jasper, a silicate mineral. But instead they formed malachite. Thematically, it makes sense with Jasper's markings plus the addition of blue to the coloring.

So? If Lapis makes copper carbonates, it would make sense that her fusing with other gems would continue the trend.

Like owned possessions, I would think. I would imagine Diamonds have more attachment to their Pearls than other Gems, simply because they fulfill the role of "companion" in a similar way that servants and slaves sometimes did in human history. Not equals, expected to serve and obey commands, but also serving as de-facto companions when need be.

It's hard to say because they're slaves. They have no say in the matter. So affection they do have for their Diamond is complicated by that fact. Yellow Pearl seemed terrified of Yellow Diamond during at least 2 points in her scenes, but she also had that smug sort of "~I'm~ Yellow Diamond's trusted Pearl" sense too.

Could mean a few things.

1) She was made on Earth, and fought in the war. Humans died in the war, although we don't know the context of their deaths--did they join the fighting, and die? Were they killed as collateral damage, civilians injured when figurative backyards became battlefields? Both? She could have seen humans in either or even both contexts.

2) It seems like the reason for the rebellion was known--Lapis says that the Crystal Gems don't care about other Gems and only care about the Earth, and there's been a few times where the CGs said stuff about protecting all of Earth's living creatures. It's possible, and probably likely, that the reason for the rebellion (humans) became known to the non-rebel Gems. So it's possible that, if Jasper didn't see humans herself, she knew about them this way.

3) After Homeworld retreated, maybe all surviving Pink Diamond Gems were sent to the zoo station while their fate was decided. In this case, Jasper either worked here for a time until she was conscripted into Yellow Diamond's service, or Yellow Diamond conscripted Jasper right away without her actually working at the zoo. In that case, Jasper probably knew about the zoo--and associates it with the "defective" Earth Gems who work there.

I can't imagine that Jasper has a high opinion of humans. They're fragile, weak, and were the indirect cause of her Diamond being shattered. Plus they like to sing.

Yellow Pearl seems to enjoy her position, if that's any indication. I'm guessing the four diamonds probably have various dispositions towards their various gems, but in general gemkind seems to look down on lower castes and see eachother by function. Yellow Diamond, for example, definitely sees her Pearl as nothing more than a tool, but Blue Diamond, being more emotional, probably has a slightly more humanitarian (if still heavily casteist) view, seen in her attachment to keeping the Rose Quartzes alive (if bubbled) and the Earth-made gems employed.

I was just at the Chicago oriental museum today. Loads of lapis lazuli to be seen. The good stuff is pure blue. Used to irises, stamps, beads, and pendants.

Also, here's some weathered copper displaying more azurite than malachite. Rare occurrence. Malachite is more common.

I'm sorry for shitting up the thead, let me try to make my thoughts clear and concrete:

Blue Diamond is good for humanity because her actions are more humanitarian. She preserves humans in the Zoo, preserves the Rose Quartzes (which shows that she doesn't feel a general wrath towards everything related to the rebellion and doesn't resort to shattering like she would have done to Ruby and Sapphire), and plans to "save" more humans from the Cluster.

She is evil. She's an enemy of the Gems, and just as bad as Yellow Diamond. She's 1/3 of the cause for Peetle's corruption, Lapis's cracking, and the Gempire in general.

All I was saying was that Blue Diamond isn't as much of a threat to humanity as a species as Yellow Diamond seemed to be.
