They don't read Damian because "he is a Mary Sue", so when Damian goes through character development they would still call him a Mary Sue simply because they didn't read.

Damian was never a Mary Sue to begin with.He is usually wrong and disliked by most of the other characters.


His development keeps getting reset to brat at the start of every new story arc.

He always felt like the "Scrappy Doo" of the Bat-family, at least in terms of how fans treated him.

Tomasi and Gleason have done so much fantastic stuff with the character, in addition to Morrison's B&R which was the first place Damian was actually a great character.

His outward attitude is still very smug and grating, but just like with Batman, the closer a character gets to him the more they can see the good person inside. I feel like that's basically Damian's entire character now-- he's got a heart of gold and gets really attached to anyone who shows him kindness, but he tries not to show emotion because of his upbringing.

That was Jason before he died, and then Tim for several years, and then Damian. That's how it is with ANY character that replaces an old one. Fans always hate the new one for years, fans who begin during this time love that character, and then he's replaced again, so now both sets of fans hate the new one. It's an eternal cycle and you can see it continuing with every new character introduced today.
