Man

Scott and Fanboys as a whole has to have shown the greatest improvement over the course of its life over pretty much every other gaming webcomic.

He was verbally abused everywhere he posted it and called out on how desperately he wanted to be PA. The difference between him and others is that he actually took the criticism instead of getting butthurt.

you get better with basic structure just by trying a couple of times, man

I guess some comics dont change because they choose a shape they can draw and go 'THIS IS HOW HE LOOKS DONT CHANGE IT I CAN COPY AND PASTE FOREVER LIKE GARFIELD!"

However, theres a reason for that. You choose a shape that looks good, you try to change it, you fuck up, and now everythings horrible and noone likes it, so....

Some of these comics do a great job of grabbing you with one page, but then fail after that.

Some of the best and most popular ones start like complete shit, but because the artist never gave up and improved (and sold out) they eventually got good enough that you wouldn't even recognize the most recent and first pages as the same artist. In those cases people are drawn in by the premise, sold by the most recent art, then suck it up and suffer the early chapters until it gets better.

A lot of these are title pages. Post the actual first page, not the titles pages guys. Pls.
>>
>>89665265
Why do I get the feeling the artist behind this draws specific weird fetish stuff on another account. Something about the shapes of things and the way certain body parts are draw as opposed to others.

>>
>>89668214
>>89668579
Sometimes I hate being right. Theirdeviantart name is solios and it's all fetish stuff.

I don't think these are the fetishes you were hoping for though. Some of these are my weirder fetishes but this art is ugly as fuck. Ugh. It's like, I can't even pin down what's unsettling about the art style. It just is.
>>
>>89668770
If you listen to fans you end up sucking.

If you listen to critics you end up improving.

I've seen both happen in everything from webcomics to fanfiction to youtube channels to actual mainstream shit.
>>
>>89668911
>I don't think these are the fetishes you were hoping for though
Even if they were they're drawn so blandly that I couldn't imagine fapping to them.
>>
>>89669102
That's my feeling. I'm into some weird shit, but what I'm seeing of what I should like here is just terrible.
>>
>>89668294
The comic became less about blind sexual shenanigans and more about a lesbian love story between a hippie and a shut-in, with some subplots involving other people of different sexual orientations.

Right now the subplot is actual worst girl trying to figure out her poly relationship.
>>
>>89669089
I've only seen one example where that wasn't the case and that's Dead Rising. They listened to the people who complained about everything that made the first game so unique and gradually shifted the series into Saints Row:Zombies.
>>
>>89668691
I heard someone say he wrote the first couple of these while drunk.

I really enjoyed LDoF, and to this day it's one of the few webcomics that finished in a relatively timely fashion and without its quality dropping to godawful levels.

I also enjoy how unapologetically he kept the same shitty style for 5 years.

Basically, right before Trump took office, Turnbull made a deal with Obama so America would take a bunch of refugees.

Australia hates refugees. Fuck them

Anyway, Trump got fed up during a call with Turnbull about honouring this deal and hung up on him. Then complained about it on twitter.

Trump's media guy just forgot Turnbull's name and called him Trumble while trying to smooth it over. Twice. I don't think it was on purpose

Because Sean Spicer is an idiot who can't even pronounce the word Turnbull right and instead said Trumble.

It still meanders. There was a mildly pointless underground kingdoms mini arc and now Agatha is running around in a skimpy outfit in Paris, fighting off Geisterdamen. In the meantime they actually found the marionette from the very start of the story and awoken the original Storm King, who is currently en-route to his sword (which is in Martellus' possession).
Also IIRC the timeskip was the halfway point of the story.
It took me a while to recall all of this. I'm starting to believe this comic would be a lot better when read in volumes instead of 3 pages a week.

By contrast - my fav example of a DOA webcomic. The premise (barbarian in a modern-day city looking for work) lasted for a full seven strips before they ran out of ideas. An 8th one suggesting a new storyline was posted before they gave up on the whole thing.

I remember SP guy doing a guest comic for Shortpacked and it was the very definition of a strawman comic where the main character rants at a strawman about political things (I think it was about a gay French Batman). It was WAY worse than any Willis' strawman comics and back then Willis was not as political yet.
When people rightfully chewed out the comic in the comments, Willis got super angry and bitched at his readers. Looking back I see that was an early warning sign.

Powerup Comics is amazing. What many people don't know is that the "authors" of this comic are characters from another comic, Unwinder's Tall Comic. Which is unironically great. Unwinder's schtick is "metafiction" and there are various spin-off comics and blogs that are referenced in the main comic. Powerup Comics is the most famous of them.

Loved -aspects- of this comic, but I hated pretty much half of the writing and the characters. I dropped it like a brick when he did the whole "I'm now going to insert all of my video game waifus into the story for no fucking reason, and they're all hyper-edgy nipponese psycho ninja sluts". Way to shit all over what had been a decent weird-west style comic up to that point.

Why are there certain artists like Dobson who managed to appeal to teens at the time but can't find an audience anymore? I've seen artists sabotage themselves with worse than what he's done. Why hasn't there been a rotation of 13 year olds coming in to replace the ones who grew up to find his working appealing?

It's like how Newgrounds just up and disappeared rather than a new wave of wannabe animators coming in to make video game parody shit. It feels like once Egoraptor stopped and went to make money other ways, the whole world followed.

>It's kinda... QC before QC

Yes and no. QC was much more clearly inspired by John Allison's Bobbins/SGR to the point of directly borrowing Allison's habits for character dialect: The men are idiots and the women are clever/wacky but unable to speak using contractions (that second part was almost signature Allison and he's himself toned that down considerably since).

Here's John's opinion of Jeph's NOTICE ME SENPAI act back in 2006.

That being said it's absurd to overlook the things Jeph nicked from S*P either intentionally or by circumstance: semi-random sounding title, snarktagonist, set where the author lives, slackers, and of course convincing your readers to let you quit your day job a decade before Patreon existed.

But people stopped trying to make 5 minutes hate threads about S*P once they accepted that time passes, characters change somewhat, and Randy's not a complete fucking drama queen.

>except it wasn't

Here's the historical context for that sidebar. SGR had already printed a list of faux-pas "things one mustn't do" which included "read QuestionableContent" while poorly redacting the title.

Allison in the sidebar is unwisely saying "No, I'm really calling out the habit of cramming unwieldy adult dialogue into the mouths of youths" when that is de facto his own signature as a writer while never quite explaining WHY that required drawing someone else's webcomic characters instead of OCs or outright likenesses of the TV characters he claims were the real offenders.

As to why he'd bother backpedaling, it's simple. Most people in January 2006, webcomic creators outside the US included, did not know that multi-con appearances for webcomic creators were being organized by a team who managed registration, booths, travel and lodging. And that team were Randy Milholland and Jeph Jacques.

Even if JJ himself never complained, it's likely that Randy privately told JA something along the lines of "this was a pretty catty thing of you to do; make a public excuse and mend your fences because it would be very frustrating to have every US convention hall situate your booths behind weight bearing pillars" and surprise of surprises, not only did that excuse appear but JA's first appearance in the US was a tiny indie con JJ himself ran in Easthampton.

Even if my scenario with Randy is a total smoke cloud coming out of my butthole, it's just as likely (if not moreso) that John made the critical error of assuming there wouldn't be much overlap between SGR fans and fans of a work directly imitating SGR, got quickly tired of sifting through super helpful "PHAYE IS LUV PHUKK YOU"-type inbox/forum crit and decided to cut his losses with the first lie he could think of.

plenty of good games that nobody talks about, especially not on the speed and scale of Undertunder

credit 4chan for encouraging people to meme arrow any reference to something as a game

man, fuck this webcomic, this is the worst Will They Won't They I've ever seen. A clear draw of this is Ganon and Zelda hatefucking, and then you get to their wedding night, and what do they do? Not fuck, is what! God this pisses me off.
The art is really good though, I'll give it that. Hopefully it will get better when the author loses her virginity.
