Apart from the last New York battle, I find the movie to be extremely boring. I remember loving it on the cinema, and one friend even bought the DVD and we watched a couple of times at his place, but recently I've watched it again and it feels like nothing happens till the end fight.

Bullshit. When it came out it was everything people wanted, all the character from the solo movies built up and coming together to beat a greater enemy. At the time it was amazing, combining all these heroes into one movie but letting their individual talents shine. That being said it has very little rewatchability, for whatever reason after it happened it does not work as a stand alone film.

The villain is meaningless, he has no motivations and no plan, he's a pure plot device to get the heroes together and is defeated in 5 seconds. The villain minions, the chitauri, are insults to the audience: they all look the same, they are all weaklings and present no danger, they are just there to make the heroes look good.
From the main cast, only Thor Hulk and Iron Man are important, the rest have trouble being useful in a situation that big. The writers were really pathetic.
The movie is so iron-man centric it's retarded: he's the leader, he's always right, he makes the final sacrifice, he's always front and center. And only because he looks cool and sells toys.
I'm not even going to mention the (oh so many) accidental fights between heroes. They are the cancer of the comics and having THREE of these in the first avengers movie was just wrong.

Loki was never going to legitimately rule Asgard, he understood that the moment Odin woke up and expressed his disappointment with him. No one respected him the brief time he did hold the throne nor would it be likely he'd ever get the chance to try again after the shit he tried to pull. This logic holds up, but then it fails when you see him taking the throne again in Thor 2. I don't think he ever got over asgard.
Loki could've tried to rule any other realm with his army, and he may have succeeded. He choose the least likely for no reason at all and obviously failed.

It's implied he was atleast tangentially aware of the Avengers due to the Mind Gem and debriefing the SHIELD agents he took under his control. But it was still just 6 people, only 3 or 4 of them a real threat.

The very beginning of the movie has the Other and waxing Earth's helplessness to Thanos. All they needed was an opening.

No one is arguing that Asgard isn't his realm of choice because it's his fucking home, but he gave up on it, albeit temporarily, the moment he let go of the Rainbow Bridge.
Taking the throne in Thor 2 was a fluke, there's no way he could have planned the sequence of events to get that chance but even then he apparently had an idea of how to expel Odin almost immediately from Asgard.

It's an ongoing story, son. Something happening in the next story doesn't make the previous one any more redundant than your own life.

While I do agree that the avengers is a great movie I hate how the success of a movie is measured by it's revenue.

Revenue =/= Ticket sales. I am always more interested in, but never able to find out, how many tickets were sold.

Part of the reason modern movies are making so much money is that ticket prices are so fucking exorbitant, and they also factor in the revenue the studios make from all the in movie add revenue and car commercials ect ect.

son, dont tell me you honestly think Loki was a compelling villain? He had no motivation at all, most of what you call "motivation" is assumed and never in anyway shown. Also helping thanos take over earth does dick for him ruling asgard, as seen in the ending of the second Thor movie.
