Rick and Morty is at the point where everyone has seen it somewhere at least once, but everybody who was going to watch it already has.

For another reason [as] wouldn't do it, and maybe this is reaching, but R&M is probably a little too nsfw-y for it. Simpsons or Family Guy are basically oldies shows that are considered "raunchy PG but ultimately family-friendly. R&M doesn't have that luxury.

Family Guy's primary audience is middle school boys on FOX. [as]'s (especially at later times when R&M is shown) primary audience is stoners.

In Rick and Morty a kid's innocent high school crush accidentally causing his entire reality to turn into a post-apocalyptic hell of flesh monsters in which the only escape is to flee into a new reality where the alternative version of himself dies in an explosion, and he has to bury his own body looking back at him and come to grips with the fact that the original reality he grew up with is still out there with the last few survivors inevitably dying until the whole world is ruined, ultimately underscoring that life itself is relative to infinity and therefore completely meaningless.

that's not really a fair comparison, FG has done a bunch of interesting epic plots before. timetravel, dimensionhopping, all kinds of other shit. it's just lame because that show is a comedy while R+M is a cerebral adventure comedy. normal-comedies trying to get deep just results in those stupid simpsons couch gags where they do a bunch of crazy cgi shit for 90 seconds or copy some other show's intro
