well it was the fact that so much time had passed like you said, on top of the fact that his patreon flat out said "pay me to make SMBZ".

that's not something you do if you don't own the IPs involved. had he said "donate to me so I have time to make more videos", he would have possibly been a bit more covered

I just don't flat out trust anything that Alvin ever says anymore. He said he got inspired to start workng on SMBZ again after that One Minute Melee episode of Bowser vs Mecha Sonic, and seeing that people still cared about it years later, but what that tells me is that he saw a way to play off of people's nostalgia and get rich since after he quit working on SMBZ the first time, he ended up being a relatively unknown furry porn artist. Every time someone asked him about SMBZ, he'd pitch a shitfit, too.

Then he got "depressed" again and all production screeched to a halt, and now the patreon got taken down.

So in summary... fuck that greedy bastard.

I wanted him to finish the original continuity since to reboot it it would take years to get to the same point. But now even the effort to reboot it was a waste of time since it's all dead now.

this is the one Newgrounds series I'm still interested in all these years later and I want it to be finished so bad it hurts.
