Sort of, discworld's concept is a joke based on an old proverb where a student and teacher are discussing the nature of the world and the teacher brings up "well it's flat, on the back of a turtle", student says "well what holds the turtle", like pebbles, and the teacher says "oh clever, but it's obviously turtles all the way down."

It's from Hindu philosophy I think, and mainly meant to showcase the silly logic of any conceptualization, such as a diety, being infinite.
