Lame.
>>
>>89590262
Instead he was given dialogue. I'd consider that a win.
>>
>>89590100
Yes I've read From Hell
>>
>>89590342
This thread is about Swamp Thing, anon.
>>
Nobody here reads comics.
>>
>"Cerebus, as if I need to say so, is still to comic books what Hydrogen is to the Periodic Table." - Alan Moore
So you've read Cerebus, the comic that Alan Moore recommends above all other comics, right?

Why oh why is that shit comic a meme here?
>muh lettering
gross
>>
You should storytime it, might jog my memory
>>
>>89591492
What meme? Alan Moore recommends that comic. You have read it, right?
>>
>>89591556
Other anon here, would you genuinely recommend reading cerebus? Does it hold up well in this day and age? What do you like about it?
>>
>>89591647
>Other anon here, would you genuinely recommend reading cerebus?
Yes.

>Does it hold up well in this day and age?
The 1970s issues don't, but the 1980s and onward do.

>What do you like about it?
I like seeing the creator evolve. Simple stories and simplistic artwork give way to complex tales and beautiful masterworks, one issue at a time. It gives me inspiration to hone my own skills and reason to believe in my own potential.

I like the examination of politics and religion, and all the deadly serious black humor that comes from seeing the power-hungry egomaniacs that run amok in those domains.

I like the character of Cerebus, his various rises and falls in power, and the waxing and waning of his soul as he eventually seeks to reform and redeem himself for all his sins.

I like the mixture of characters that are descended from literature classics, pop culture and comic books, all of which interact with each other naturally and believably.

I like seeing >>89591492 get annoyed by other people reading comics which they refuse to read.
>>
>>89590100
I have and I own it too.
>>89591556
Alan Moore's personal opinions are irrelevant.
>>
>>89591901
>which they refuse to read.
assumptions were made
>>
>>89591984
You called it a "meme". What other assumption should one make?

Wew.

>What other assumption should one make?
>>89591492
>Why oh why is that shit comic

I would infer from this that I read and didn't enjoy the comic in question.
>>
>>89590100
I'm a massive casual and I've still read the whole run.
>>
>>89592052
What didn't you like about it?

What makes you think that people who do like it are actually just pretending to like it as part of some meme?

It utter mediocrity. Literally just a par for the course indie comic until Sim goes insane.

>What makes you think that people who do like it are actually just pretending to like it as part of some meme?
Because the last time I asked someone why they thought it was the greatest comic they new of, "lettering" was one of the first things they mentioned.

The end
>>
>>89590100
yes. but it's hard to say what moore's "best" was. there's so much good stuff he's responsible for

>>89590262
oh come one, both are good!

>>89591216
>most simplistic element
>everything is more complex after hydrogen

yeah i think you're taking his complimentary and diplomatic words about a colleague with mental issues a little too seriously.

>>89591647
i've read it. first 8 or 9 volumes are okay, sort of lulls in the middle, then rises but not by much and plateaus before ending. i would only suggest reading it if comics are really important to you and you want to read it for the sake of reading it. there are some really, very interesting things Sim did, but there is also a lot of extraneous work as well. i would also say if you start, finish it to the end so you don't have to rely on someone else's opinion
>>
>>89592143
>It utter mediocrity. Literally just a par for the course indie comic until Sim goes insane.
This is very vague. Can you elaborate on this?

Why is lettering not a valid criterion for appreciating the time and energy and skill put into crafting a comic?
>>
>>89592193
>This is very vague. Can you elaborate on this?
Take the issue of Shade about the two American authors travelling through time and make it star a an Aardvark and be only half as good.
>>
>>89592187
Moore wrote that in 1997. Sim's "mental issues" era was more around 2001.

Moore was being genuine in his praise, and he goes on to say:
>[Cerebus] is one of the only comics that I still read and enjoy regularly every month.

>>89592244
This is very vague. Can you elaborate on this?

Specifically, can you talk about Cerebus itself and not about other comics?
>>
>>89592289
>This is very vague. Can you elaborate on this?
What's going on here?
I've gone in to more detail than the average /co/ post already, my man. I ain't writing you a thesis.
>>
>>89592312
You're telling me that you read this comic, but you can't comment on any aspect of the comic itself. It's as if you didn't read it and you lied about it on 4chan.

Do people really do that, badmouth comics they haven't read and then lie about it afterwards?
>>
>>89592340
You are saying that if I don't write a certain amount on a subject it means I haven't read a comic.
Think about that for a second.
Last post from me.

I hate when fuckers like you do that. Don't engage, just keep trying to shit the conversation to a place you feel more powerful in.
So damn draining.
Really takes the fun out of wasting my life on 4chan.
>>
>>89592376
When you read the comic, did you like any characters? Did you dislike any characters? Did you like any of the stories? Did you dislike any of the stories?

Can't you comment on any of it?
>>
>>89591216
the thread isn't about Alan Moore's recommendation, silly
>>
>>89590100
I remember that issue where the nigger got skinned.
That was fun.
>>
>>89592411
This thread is about OP (who just finished Swamp Thing) trying to feel superior to everyone who hasn't read it yet.

I think "I'm superior to you" threads are dumb so I just thought I'd throw in some counter-shitposting with one of Moore's favorite comics.

Is that so wrong?
>>
>>89592400
Okay, I know I said last post.
One more.

My man, if I name a story I don't like and say I didn't like it for X simple reason (character was bad, plot progression sucked, etc...)
You will continue hounding me for more details, post after post, because you are operating under the assumption that someone who has really read Cerebus would not dislike it.

I'm closing this tab now.
>>
>>89592467
fair enough
>>
>>89592482
The problem isn't that you dislike Cerebus. The problem is your assertion that everyone who does like it is actually only pretending to like it, that it's just a meme.

So, yeah, I assume that you haven't read it. And since you can't remember even a single detail about it, I guess I was right.

Oh well. People can lie on 4chan. I learn something new every day.
>>
>>89592550
>I guess I was right.
How did you arrive at this conclusion?
And why, other than your need to "win" this talk?

Thank god for these recent high res scans of Alan Moore's work.
Now I have decent res versions of MiracleMan, Swamp Thing and even Promethea.

I thought this thread was about appreciating an amazing work of literature? Why would someone who hasn't read it even be here?

I haven't read it

Haha.

Personally, I liked Church and State, but lost interest after that. And letteing doesn't thrill me.,
