Good evening owls,
let's finish this
>>89584498
so what was good today
>>89584512
Flintstones and Captain Atom were great
Death of Hawkman was alright
The Wild Storm sounds pretty promising
>>89584512
that Gronk and Doug and Troy page in Flintstones is, like, straight out of a Tiptree Jr. story
I fucking love it
>>89584601
I ran Captain Atom, being Nate is suffering
>>89584622
>the planet is getting /d/'d
>>89584512
I'm tentatively hype for King Bane to constantly be trolling Batman. Cliffhanger gave hope.
Capt Atom was tragic and I kept waiting for someone to diein 9/11
Midnighter and Apollo is fun as fuck
Superman rushed the multiversity stuff, it was ok but more fan service than anything. I'm still chanting about the Time Trapper with this Rebirth/Mr Oz stuff.
Champions wasn't bad
>>89584512
Shade was really neat and I want to murder the anon who posted about the electoral college like 2 posts after Flintstones was done. Nova was good. Captain Atom is pretty interesting in how they're swinging it.
Vampirella was a surprise, it's like a euro scifi pitch.
>>89584601
IMO the Hawkman book is dogshit but I guess YMMV.
What was the reference with the sci fi author in Capt Atom?? I can't think of how or why it'd be a Pied Piper shout out
>>89584622
It always comes down to sex and death.
>>89584646
>Champions wasn't bad
the /pol/ shit isn't even my complaint with it
>>89584622
If time/alt universes really do self-correct than being Nate literally IS suffering in the complete canon.
How was your trip OP?
>>89584498
I missed the last one and I wanted to read it, I just got busy with work and by the time I got around to it the thread was 404'd.
>>89584645
you couldn't really pay me to read Champions
>>89584661
I poked my head into the thread to mention Theory of the Leisure Class and then GTFO
>>89584753
the score is great, the production kind of sucked, and I had some amazing food and went to the zoo
>>89584723
it's an all ages book which i think requires certain goggles but i get it isn't for everyone
>>89584769
Friday we just did the Alan Moore one-shot
I've been having to work late shift lately, that's why all the delays
no storytime tomorrow
>>89584661
>IMO the Hawkman book is dogshit but I guess YMMV.
I don't think it's terrible but it's nothing special either
just a few good moments between Katar and Adam surrounded by a lot of predictableness
also Hawkgirl wasn't even in the issueshame about Isamot Kol too
>>89584498
Hello, Storyteller.
So here's something completely off-topic. How would you make a fantasy setting that distinguishes itself from the typical Tolkeinesque trappings?
>>89584827
Read a book and stop being a basic bitch.
>>89584805
I am 100% fucking ready for Snagglepuss
>>89584827
one interesting quick fix is "think up climate/terrain that's not temperate Northern Europe" and extrapolate life patterns from there
>>89584774
i need to post more Eat The Rich in those threads and less ranting about the electoral collegeand how it's a holdover from slavery days to appease the south
>>89584812
I find the way almost everyone talks really painful.
>>89584856
i didn't know Tennessee Williams was gay!
>>89584856
>>89584865
the EC is a blight because it SMDs the entire US, and SMDs are something I've become pretty negative toward
>>89584865
I just wanted like 10 posts after before it became politics hell, anon. Real life is fucking politics hell already.
Damian's happy meal toy in Batman is a front runner for comic joke of the year
>>89584880
are you trolling or not, my sensors are broken now :(
an astounding number of American 20th century composers of classical music were also gay
>>89584932
>tfw no Robins ongoing
>>89584957
>they sense a stash of hidden cocaine
What'd everyone think of the "The Wild Storm" codex thing
>>89584957
I didn't!! We never learned about personal lives of these people in school and also i'm in the south they aren't gonna share that!
I didn't know Walt Whitman was gay until 2015 either!!
I knew Capote! and that a lot of the beats were at least bi-
>>89585023
good to see they have a blueprint, hope there is good follow through. Liked how he talked about stripping it down to basics and rebuilding, laughed out loud at "a wild CAT"
>>89584512
I loved Deadly Class. I know it's a known Remenderism but I really think this issue was the shot in the arm the series needed.
>>89584985
Wild Storm does look good so far, getting at what distinguishes and defines the setting and putting it in the Now
>>89585024
Oh, okay, that's totally fair. Whitman I'd call flexible, it's much less documented than the 20th century types. Composers: you have Bernstein, Copland, Blitzstein, David Diamond, and then so many of the playwrights...
>>89584957
Doesn't surprise me, honestly, since always had a theory that homosexuality is an evolutionary adaptation to counter overpopulation, so like, whatever.
>>89585088
that's some strategic shadowing
I didn't catch at first and had to google that Zealot as Lucy Blaze is Team One stuff, which means Madge is lurking in the wings. So happy to see Emp back on the main stage.
>>89585023
It sounds good, plus it's nice to know they have a plan (and why they haven't announced more books for it yet)
>>89585092
That seems like a reversible argument.
>>89585092
There was also a genuine Gay Culture in 50s-70s NYC--James McCourt writes well about it, including the greatest novel of opera fandom
>>89585149
Also Samuel Barber and Gian Carlo Menotti, for everyone who's seen Amahl and the Night Visitors
>>89585189
>>89585149
>including the greatest novel of opera fandom
???
I reached Jack going to space in Starman!! I wonder if monthly readers were like "He's never gonna go to space" or more impatient or what about it. also the Mist's babby ain't aging fast enough.
>>89585088
also we read Glass Menagerie and not Cat on a Hot Tin Roof so it's not like i could extrapolate.
>>89585225
https://www.nyrb.com/products/mawrdew-czgowchwz
this is the Platonic essence of the Cult Classic
(it's pronounced 'Mardu Gorgeous')
>>89585290
whoops
>>89585329
I feel like I'm reading a video game.
>>89585372
It's a very odd and very distinctive book and it's beyond the limit of the outer boundaries of too much, but the best bits are perfect.
>>89585092
That's not the way evolution works.
Homosexuality is a mutation that occurs in animals, too, but obviously since homosexuals aren't going to typically produce natural offspring, this mutation is normally not favored. Human society doesn't work on natural selection rules, which is why our species is so widely varied.
However it's not 100% certain that homosexuality is something in your DNA and not caused by psychological influences, but most scientists believe it probably is. Does this mean homosexuality could potentially be hereditary in some way? We don't yet know. But I personally believe there is a gene and it's been passed down and spread because homosexuality has been taboo for so long that most gay people would take opposite gender spouses to maintain appearances.
I don't know how actual gay people feel about this but I would think they'd be in support of the genetic theory because the psychological one supports the idea that people choose to be gay.
>>89585407
can you share the cheat codes?
>>89585407
Kojima could have written the Wildstorm U.
>>89585447
>>89585447
Sure. Down down down down down + Askips to page 22
>>89585449
that new Engineer design DOES look very MGS/ZOE ish
>>89585407
Speaking of video games I'm loving Giannis Milonogiannis, from Prophet, live tweeting his progress in Bloodborne
> i found vicar amelia. i guess this is my life now
>>89585478
Plus all the edginess and dumb spec ops and skimpy clothes.
>>89585437
Not him, but I wouldn't think acknowledging something as psychological inherently suggests choice. But I only have K-12 scientific knowledge so maybe that's retarded.
>>89585449
NuEngineer is like a female-looking Metal Gear.
>>89585490
Nioh is going to fucking consume my life once it comes out.
>>89585467
>ritual mating
>>89585530
Yeah I've held off on buying Yakuza 0 and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 for it
>>89585534
I need to sit down with some vidya
>>89585534
It's pretty neat that Madge obviously wears a uniform. Didn't pick up on that until seeing these other guys.
>>89585575
so what comics-related fun did I miss that wasn't Snagglepuss
>>89585603
>You came to the wrong neighborhood, motherfucker
>>89585603
>>89585603
DC cancelled GL and JLI trades because of the Gerard Jones thing
>>89585650
>>89585674
unsurprising, but that is quite the hole in 90s comics, now
>>89585407
I too, and playing Phoenix Wright.
>>89585603
apparently Top Cat by Didio and Ruff & Reddy by Chaykin (lol) are going to be actual series too
http://www.comicsbeat.com/preview-dc-debuts-a-new-look-snagglepuss-and-announces-upcoming-hanna-barbera-concepts/
>>89585704
>>89585731
the Chaykin could so easily be edgy and awful, but it's licensed and thus you can't have dicks exploding on page, but...
>>89585763
>>89585704
Yeah the other day I saw JMD lamenting that JLI never got a full collection and that DC never collected his Doctor Fate
There was a solicit for a collection of the Fate mini he did with Giffen, but DC cancelled it because that's what they do
>>89585763
This fucking art...
>>89585806
>>89585837
Haha, what's wrong with their faces
>>89585731
>>89585763
I wish Chaykin was working with an artist. His storytelling skills are still sharp, but I think his linework has gone to hell. IMO he would benefit form just writing and doing layouts
Why is coming up with a good magic system such a pain in the ass?
>>89585883
As in Magic: The Gathering?
>>89585857
I don't like the way he inks himself at all/if he does it all digitally, and the pasted in textures are horrible
>>89585763
I mean if DC somehow put out a comic where Ruff and/or Reddy's dick explodes on-panel I can't say I would count that as a loss.
>>89585913
>>89585929
if anyone would do it, it'd be Howie
Where did the Chaykin dick exploding happen? Black Kiss 2?
>>89585957
>>89585978
I've tried to block it out, but that sounds right
>>89584512
Old Man Logan, Midnighter and Captain Atom minis.
>>89585902
As in making up one's own fictional type of magic that's simple and easy to understand, yet also has a fair amount of depth without getting complicated.
This is why I lean towards sci-fi. Fake tech is easier because you can base on real shit. Magic you have to pull out of your ass.
>>89586001
>>89585957
>Hanna-Barbera licenses slashed in sick violence orgy from demented pervert cartoonist
>Bill Keller to head new Comics Code Authoritysob
>>89586036
There's a webcomic called Unsounded that has a very nicely tuned way of working magic.
>>89586036
I'm just being a cheeky cunt, I know what you mean.
I recommend reading up on occultism and religious stuff like chakras and chi.
>>89586052
god, this art
>>89584498
Woops, coming in late.
>>89586118
there are two issues after this but we're not going to make it there tonight, this is a goddamn struggle
I saw a quote about Black Kiss where he said it was all our least tasteful just WORST shit he could do
>>89584512
Only read Nova and GA so far.
Both good.
Considering watching Green Lantern.
Kek
>>89586181
Y'all are way too pussy about a dick exploding
>>89586178
sigh
I'd hate to start another political fight, but did anyone see Tom King's post about the immigration ban?
https://twitter.com/TomKingTK/status/825428855368327168
>>89586178
Yeah it's pretty goddamn shit. This feels like the series Jon Malin should have been on in a just world.
>>89586212
Bleeding Cool has such an unerring instinct for clickbait.
>>89586231
>>89586212
Fuck you lady, if I'm boycotting Marlel it's because of how they treat my imaginary friends, not because of some "political agenda" or whatever, what are you nuts?
>>89586294
>>89586245
he looks pretty fucking cool
>>89584812
Re: Spoiler- I haven't been reading, what happened to him?
>>89586319
>>89586359He gets blasted and Adam goes "Is he--?" and we don't see him again but his ring finds a new bearer so presumably he's dead
>>89586376
>>89585579
It's one of those things I've never liked about Wildstorm... how characters like Majestic, Spartan or Maul are way less unique because there's tons of others out there that look like them
>>89584856
>I am 100% fucking ready for Snagglepuss
I was happy with the backup solicit, and ongoing could have LEGS.
D'ye think we'll get a Hanna Barbera Harper Lee?
>>89586231
So much for Mama Zealot I guess
F
>>89586384
Fack.
Goddamn Corps just exists to Redshirt for Hal and the other Earthmen.
>>89586416
she's Southern but she was, IIRC, quite reclusive, whereas Russell seems to be going for the Broadway culture of the 50s
I'd expect to see Edward Albee pop up, among others. There's going to be more alcoholism than FEAR AGENT, damn
>>89584985
Why are you commenting on that when there's that much BUTT on display?
>>89586473
>>89586499
these butts are barely worthy of comment
I wanna talk about how Wild Storm was described as Game of Thrones-esque. Amazing
>>89586529
thanks for reading, sorry there is no mmmph to finish this tonight, we'll finish it Friday
>>89586560
Game of Thrones with PMCs and deep state orgs sounds like a lark, much as I hate the "like Game of Thrones!" meme.
>>89586560
Such a tired comparison desu
>it's like Game of Thrones in space!
>it's like Game of Thrones with hobos!
>it's like Game of Thrones meets Godzilla!
Give it a fucking rest, will ya?
>>89586560
Oh, what the hell isn't at this point.
>>89586560
In that, like GRRM, Ellis is going to take 6 years to finish each subsequent installment?
>>89586584
Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.
>>89586584
Thank you
>>89586560
I really think with the kind of approach Ellis is going for (covert ops and espionage/current political aspects),Christopher Priestshould definitely write an ongoing. Holy fuck it would be so sick.
>>89586605
If we're talking pop culture comparisons Black Mask solicits are a riot:
>described as The Breakfast Club of Hogwarts.
>Blending the punk exuberance of Tank Girl with the buddy adventure wackiness of Superbad
>X-Men meets The Wire
>Like X-Men: First Class meets Project Alpha
>in the style of Preacher meets The Da Vinci Code by way of Justified
>Like a cross between Kill Your Boyfriend and Hard Day’s Night
>>89586584
Night OP. I will take a chance on your opera novel with some of my hard-earned Amazon giftcard cash from Xmas
Anything to be better prepared for the Snagglepuss
>>89586584
Thanks, OPossum
>>89585603
I started playing Waifu Academy because the newest update of the Transformers phone game broke it, and Enchantress is useless.
>>89586707
It's not quite fair to compare because there's nostalgia speaking, but I'm way more into Wild Storm as a tightly described concept than the SEVEN BOOKS of Catalyst Prime.
>>89586635
Rather that he (his computer) will die before the series is finished.
>>89586707
Priest will be fully tied up with the phenomenally successful Lion Forge line at that point.
>>89585676
Woof, that is some rushed looking art.
>>89586745
Well, if you need some annotations, I'll be here.
>>89586765
Joseph Illidge is a fellow Night Thrasher fan, I'm conflicted.
>>89585795
That Fifth /d/lement harness.
>>89586245
Looks ready to shoot a man he's about to throw out an airplane.
>>89586896
I want Lion Forge to put out good comics, but so far from him it's been a great deal of bluster (and often petty sniping at what other people have done) and no actual comic to evaluate.
A bit like how Steranko keeps going on about these revolutionary ideas he has that Marvel is too cheap/closed-minded to let him to, but no hints of specifics have ever been provided.
>>89586584
>The Winter Men
I remember liking that.
I bet it's still on my old harddrive with the dead motor.
>>89586985
>A bit like how Steranko keeps going on about these revolutionary ideas he has
If they're "Punch Bob Kane" I think they're great ideas.
Otherwise, yeah, need details to consider an idea's quality.
>>89586979
He's a big name.
>>89586985
IKR? There are three Joe Casey books and I still don't know how many of the characters are going to go commando.
>>89586605
>>it's like Game of Thrones meets Godzilla!
The hell is THAT a reference to?
>>89587341
Kaijumax? I mean, that's more like Monster Island meets OZ, but nobody fucking remembers OZ so..
>>89587400
>OZ
Modern television about prison rape is FEMALE, you cishet shitlord.
>>89587400
I remember OZ!
Beecher shitting on Schillinger's face was the best climax to a season of TV, ever.
