I stopped watching Adventure Time a while back because I thought the show got kinda boring, but fuck this actually kinda gets to me. I still have lots of fond memories of watching this back when it first aired and getting hyped when people started putting together the DEEPEST LORE, getting excited when the Lich would finally show up, getting disappointed with the constant return to status quo, watching episodes live with everyone here. Good times. Too bad Moynihan had to step in and add his pretentious philosophical bullshit in there, that's what turned me off.

Adventure Time and Regular Show are God tier regardless and nearly saved the shitty industry. Both shows had weak spots (season 6 for both sucked hard), but both have strengthened up again. Regular Show already delivered a beautiful finale. Adventure Time looks like it might be better than Regular Show and Gravity Falls' combined. They were nearly all perfect shows. Anyone saying that they weren't good either has extremely high expectations or it didn't go the way of their headcanon. Best cartoons in the west since Spongebob, Avatar The Last Airbender and 12 Oz. When I started watching AT, I was in my first year of high school. I was having a lot of trouble academically and socially, struggling not to fail classes, and finding myself unable to maintain old friendships or form new ones. The show, having an emotional resonance within me I haven't felt before or since, became an escape for me, it was constantly on my mind, the high point of my week. I think it was how Finn seemed to be everything I wasn't: he was personable and with many friends, he didn't deal with the stress and tedium of something like school but rather spent his days being a hero-adventurer, a task he was not only skillful in but also passionate. Along with these, Finn also struggled with similar feelings of loneliness and powerlessness, albeit these being from being the last known human and his inability to make PB reciprocate. Being only a year older than Finn (until he was paused at sixteen) it's almost as if I grew up alongside him. While I have since moved on from these problems and my fervor for AT has since declined, with the thought of it ending in such a foreseeable span, I can't help but feel like I'm losing a part of myself.

Sorry to blog-post, it's just I've never put these thoughts to word, and seeing this thread made it like an appropriate time to do so.

A huge portion of negative feedback is from the "lemming response" from very few posters acting like many and spamming their shallow opinions over and over again until they brainwash people and get lemming followers.

I suspect a lot of it stems from one guy that was fired from CN over something to do with AT and has made it his crusade to try and wreck the show due to how bitter he is.

I think it's much simpler. You will always have people that dislike a show. More so if it has any legs to how long it was on the air.
I enjoyed the older seasons because it was comfy dnd meta humor with subtle lore building, down the way it's gotten a little out of hand and disjointed. For me the dating Flame princess subplot was when I could tell the show was getting out of hand. That said I know people enjoy that shipping drama and many want each episode to get hairy and complex with lore and world building. I'm just not in that camp.

Streaming is another flaw here though my selective friend. TTG was #2 for the highest streamed show of 2016 last year for on Demand. It was #4 on Hulu just last November, there are ways to see demand that is around the Nielson box. Neither show has been doing that good in streaming or in ratings.
A great example to show this is Steven Universe which in spite of long hiatuses, constant leaks and a lack of dedicated ad space it has always gotten TTG numbers when new episodes air and catch up blocks are done. It even gets steady streaming (though that might be the lack of other options to watch the show) and over all stays well with numbers. AT and RS get better ad pushes and many times even better time slots, even now the new AT is the runner up to SU meaning SU is the one carrying viewers into the show. 5 years ago it was the other way around.

I criticize Adventure Time a lot because I hate writing crews and fandoms that don't know how to take criticism and would rather put a hissy fit rather than learn.

Every time the writing crew seem to answer questions, there's always some kind of smug aura surrounding it, and that pretentiousness is reflected in the show, the words they use like "experimental" and "revolutionary" are just buzzwords used to cover up what most episodes past the first half of Season 5 really were, incoherent and incompetent.

And then there's the fandom, wow they were the biggest crybabies when it came to criticism before Steven Universe blew up.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that thinks this, and I've watched most of Season 7, it still wasn't all that great, but it was better than Season 6, though that isn't a high mark.

Even though that original worldview attracted me to his character. But I wasn't much older than him at the time. It was interesting how in Wheels he's seemed to officially out-mature Jake

Hmm, was PB ever THAT bad though? She's definitely an 'ends justify the means' type of person, but she always does what she can for the good of her people. I firmly believe that season 7 was a big turning point for PB. Getting kicked out of her own kingdom gave her time to reflect on the type of person she'd become. In Varmints we saw her attempt to make amends with Marceline for being such a terrible friend to her in the past, even going so far as to go to dinner with Ice King with her. Upon returning to her kingdom, she encouraged the banana guards to be more expressive. She amended her relationship with Cinnamon Bun by making a squire for him. It seems like she's making an effort to be on good terms with Finn recently too.

I expect to see more of this growth with the elemental arc, which seems to be heavily focused on PB becoming more introspective.

Alright so if you turn on CN you'll see that there's literally an all day countdown to one random 11 minute new TTG episode, but AT and RS got shafted hard to where their most important episodes are aired silently in the midst of the schedule.

You see this is the difference between marathon watching and watching them as they come out.

The eps are so short if youre marathoning and you hit a bad one itll be over in 10 minutes and then you move on to probably a better one. Marathoning I personally like most of the seasons, but I can understand how frustrating it could be if you had to wait a week between each one and then you hit a bad one. And fuck, season 6, you cant blame anyone for quiting during that. Watching S6 over the course of several months would be like chinese water torture.

Not him, but there's definitely truth in this I think. I marathoned season 6 when catching up and enjoyed it a lot, but it has a completely different feel to the other seasons, and is overall less consistent in quality IMO. I can imagine it would be tough to watch it live, especially if you weren't digging the tone.

I only frqent /co/ when it come to AT fandom, but here I have seen far much more people complain about the show directly than people complaining about haters.
