I'm really liking this series, and not saying this is a bad thing, but it's interesting to note that there are some retcons in this issue that probably remove later pieces of the 80s and 90s series from continuity. Blame Secret Wars soft reboot?

Because of the sliding timescale, his childhood got moved to the 80s and his military stuff to Iraq. When he runs off to join the military, MKs dad is dead and his mom is alive now, while originally it was the opposite. And in the old series he was fairly successful in the military and I think briefly worked with the CIA? before he got kicked out for being crazy. While in this issue he's only referred to as a private. I haven't gone back and read the old stuff in a while so I might have missed other stuff affected also

It probably is a readjust post secret wars, yes. Lemire did the same with Clint and Kate in AN Hawkeye. I don't know if it's the same for OML.

I don't know how this affect his conflict with his father, and his brother, which is not shown.

It can be blamed to Khonshu and unreliable narrator, too, I guess. In any case, I hope they stick to this background for a while, at least. It's not good when you're changing your character's history every two years.

In this series he's been spending most of his time confused and disoriented, which is kind of taking the edge off that. Don't know if it's just a result of where the plot is going, or a purposeful change to try and make him more likeable

I was wondering.

What if they are going with a more literal meaning of the avatar concept and the answer to making Marc more stable and cured is converting him into actual Khonshu incarnated. And thats why he's so persistent about giving him his body. So in the end he's Marc, but also, a god in flesh, even if he doesn't have powers because he's still human. Of course, Marc soul still exists, but as an aspect of Khonshu that represents the whole. And for doing so, Khonshu needs to rewrite his history by meding in his background like other anon has said, from the out of time dimension he is, to whatever the right time he needs.

It's not like it doesn't fit for him to be crazy and hearing voices before Egypt in any case.

That, of course, it seems that we are finally deciding that the bird guy exist.
