Same as every other time there's only one comic set within the Hasbro Shared Universe out, separate thread. This time it's Transformers: Lost Light.

>>
>>89568717
Will Roller and Megatron be best buds now??

I'm just happy that Megs gets his mentor back. But got a feeling that when Terminus buys the farm it will push Megatron back to the Decepticons.

Plus why is Ratchet still draped up on Drift. When is old school buddy Roller is back. Didn't he make a comment about the last time all three of them were together in a previous arc about shallow good byes?
>>
>>89569268
It hasn't even been a day since they reunited and they've been busy.
>>
>>89569268
betcha the mentor dies

they always do
>>
>>89569268
Well, Roller went missing when the Autobots were still rebelling against the corrupt Primes and the Functionists, before the Decepticons really started acting out against anyone but the same corrupt targets.

He doesn't have millions of years of war grudges as regards Megs most Autobots do.
>>
>>89568813
Funnily enough, this issue of Lost Light was leaked EARLY last week.
>>
>>89569283

I got a question from IDW Gi Joes concerning Skywarp. I thought he was an outliner in the IDWverse. So why does he need the Joes to "fix" him and his warping. Aren't outliners just like marvel mutants?
I know that the cause of his ghosting problem before hand was caused by Arcee stabbing him mid warp, but has that been explained why that affected Skywarp that way?
>>
>>89576732
Doens't mean his teleportation still isn't technological. How many times in X-Men has their been a mutant disease that needed cured? Legacy Virus?

Anyway his teleportation has been on the fritz for awhile now and he has only recently been returned to corporeal form. He was dimensionally unstable for awhile and hooked up to machines allowing Galvatron's forces to use his teleportation for their own benefits.

its just another case of clashing mediums. The G1 toy has a yellow/orange visor. While US G1, Jap G1 and Marvel had blue

Yes, IDW Chromedome leaned more towards the G1 toy colorings. But just look at both Titans Return toys. Japan's release is more Headmasters and the US' is more G1 toy.

Maybe editorial messed up, maybe Tailgate's jumpstart outliner sharing messed with him.
>>
>>89581648

The current toy release for Japan has a more G1 head, but blue eyes.

The US version has a more IDW head, but still a blue visor.

Both share the same body, in slightly different colors. Which is definitely based on the IDW version, because the G1 guy was a straight up brick in both toy and show design.

>>89568764
If it is something amazingly rare like a component to a titan or a homing device to the Knights of Cybertron it would be bullshit mary sue. If it was something that would be so esoteric to simply not register as a possibility it would be too similar to Tarn's reveal as "Nobody". Therefore, his altmode's function must be something that is dangerous to others while not usable in another manner, like a mass-suicide override on all Cybertronians. Then the main universe Rung can get offhandedly mentioned about his apocalypse maiden nature at the end of the arc and be bummed for a bit.
>>
>>89568732
I'm having a hard time getting into this one. I think part of it is the art, part of it is the let down after the end of season 2, and part of it is all the literally who bots that don't really seem much like Transformers at all. They also don't serve much of a purpose yet. We'll see.

Optimus Prime is far and a way the better of these two new books right now, and I was a pretty huge Roberts-fag.

Seems like James Roberts made a mistake in both issues of Lost Light.
>>

>>89588648

I was a relentless Roberts faggot back when MTMTE started, I defended everything he ever wrote. Then season 2 started and the loss of Burcham on the colours already hurt the atmosphere of the book so I it took me out for a while but the writing was still decent-ish until the end of Brainstorm's arc. Then Roberts went full retard with his relentless sitcom references, hipster music, muh love drama and it just piled on until it became SO BAD that is retroactevly destroyed everything good about season 2.

Then LL happened and this childlike art replaced Milne, the last connection to the true MTMTE and I just couldn't take it anymore. Seriously I know that "deviant art" is a buzz word but this art REALLY looks like a deviantart fan comic. Nothin aobut Lost Light says "official fiction" it looks SO FANMADE in every regard that I can't take it seriously.

Optimus Prime has that sweet 2000AD + G2 look to it to at least make it visually interesting because I don't care much for the story and TAAO is surprisingly a decent action-heavy book but everything about LL is just terrible and sad.

I still say that the first 5 volumes of MTMTE are my favourite TF fiction ever but everything post that is just garbage.
>>
>>89596984

Roberts misunderstood the "you like me because my writing is good" as "you like my writing because you like me" so he thinks he can do no wrong and everything he writes will be met with nothing but glowing praise.

Literally every single one of my Transformers friends either stopped reading MTMTE around after Swearth or finished MTMTE and have no intention of even reading the Lost Light (Milne no longer being the artist being the final drop)

I know that the sales will still probably be higher than ever regardless but it says a lot about the book when all of the original readers that made it a hit jump ship.
>>
>>89597319
>(Milne no longer being the artist being the final drop)

I keep hearing he'll be back later on but still nothing yet.
>>
>>89597890

Roberts assumed that Lawrence and Milne will be alternating arcs but the editorial hasn't said anything yet and that's the big one (Barber is no longer the main editor for Transformers)

Lawrence was probably chosen for it because he's openly gay so that IDW can have their main gay-robot story being drawn by an openly-gay married dude. It's simple as that really, the suits don't give a shit about the quality of the product only what makes them and the company look "good". Milne will at best be a fill in artist like every 5 or so issues like Rojo or Padilla used to be.

He's already filling in on Optimus #4.
>>
>>89597939

If anything this entire arc should've been done with Zama's "dark inky art" because it's the Functionist universe. Nobody would complain about the art then.
>>
I'll be perfectly honest I feel like MTMTE should've ended with Dark Cybertron.

I hated Dark Cybertron when it was coming out but when it was finished looking back there really was no need anymore for the "band of wacky characters on a ship looking for the Knights" anymore.

None of the (good) stories done in season 2 required that plotline, the search for the knights plotline isn't continued at all and at the end the plotline is abandoned entirely and we probably won't see the mutineers for like two years now when we get an EPIC SPLASHPAGE TWEEEEEEST that will lead to nothing as it usually happens.

The first 5 volumes told a great story. They get on a ship, they roam around a bit, they find an ancient missing moon of cybertron and then wind up back where they started again. If anything that should've been that and "season 2" could've just been them abandoning the quest and trying to rebuild cybertron together in peace time instead of trying to find someone else to do it for them.

Plus it would be a great duality since S2 MTMTE would've been the cybertron book and RID would've been the Earth book, so RID wouldn't have to juggle Cybertron and Earth.
>>
>>89598584

you know that probably could have worked.

i agree, the knights plot has been a dead end.

and i really want to focus on the mutiny, ironic for the Lost Light comic to not feature the ship.
>>
>>89597939
>Lawrence was probably chosen for it because he's openly gay
Lawrence was hired because he Roberts and Roche were good buddies from way back and Roberts was pushing to get Lawrence as part of the mtmte team. He probably didn't know that would get Milne ousted but he sure didn't seem to care when it was confirmed he wouldn't be doing anything on Lost Light for a long time. Milne meanwhile had no idea he was basically fired and was very clearly upset.
>>
>>89577948
TAILGATE IS AN IRREDEEMABLE CUNT NOW
>>
>>89598682

The original idea for MTMTE was probably to be the "newcommer bubble" story so that people could jump in easily. There really was no need for that isolated continuity bubble to exists after 20+ issues and a massive 12 issues crossover.

The search for the knights was never the main plot anyway, it was the set up in order to tell the day to day adventures were the actual meat of MTMTE. Dropping the knights plot-line entirely in S2 would've been better because we're 50 issues in the story and the knight plotline has been dead completly for at least 20 issues with no progress towards it so it's one more thing that earked people on the book.

>First let me thanks everyone for their support and that they like my work enough to want me to continue with what I've been doing the last few years. Much appreciated. However I am not telling anyone to go boo IDW for not having me currently working on Lost Light.
Also I do have other work with IDW that I'm currently working on that I can't talk about at this moment. There was talk about a secret project back at NYCC that I'm waiting for final approval on and then the public announcement from IDW about that. So still can't talk about that, but there is something in the works.

>As for Lost Light I don't have any information about it at this moment. I know that schedules change and thing become reorganized, that's just how the industry works. At the moment that only thing I can confirm I'm doing for LL is some covers. If and when that changes I can let others know. It sounds like Barber is writing whatever Milne's secret project is. Milne tweeted this, and Barber's not editing anymore.

>>
>>89605089

>>
>>89603661
This seems like IDW stepping in and telling Milne to smooth things over or else, because he sure was talking shit about them on his social accounts before that interview. I tend to believe there was more going on than we're seeing.
>>
>>89605264

The main editor for Transformers got changed because a new guy went up the ladder so barber isn't the main editor.

Comic companies being retard that they are like to stick their dicks in the pudding and change up shit just for the sake of because they think it will lead to increased sales (they never do except for the first two month) so they probably tough that a new visual style for every relaucnhing TF book would boost their sales. So Milne got the boot, and Griffith went off his way willingly because he got bored (he's also fucking off to Peru the absolute madman).

So like >>89597939 said a gay dude writing their flagship gay comic who is also bffs with said comics writer is an editorial gravy train.

Milne was SUPER SALTY over IDW on twitter so they probably told him either shut up or you'll be permanently off the job and he probably didn't want to end up as Don Fig who got black listed by Hasbro for sperging out on the Bomber Megatron thing.
>>
>>89605715
sad that even someone like milne gets treated like garbage
>>
>>89605715
Don Figueroa is entirely justified for the bomber Megatron thing, they fucking stole his design.
>>
>>89606051
>Don got Dreamwaved TWICE
>>
>>89606024

Disconnect between fanbase and the editorial. It's eternal.

Milne had the biggest impact on the transformers style since Don Fig in the early 2000s, every fanartist tries to copy his style he's THE main Transformers "super start" artist now, but good luck convincing the editors that's true and that some new nobody that never drew a robot in their life isn't the actual "super star".

That's who we consistently get shit art, because editors think that if that drawing robots is the same as drawing humans.

It's why IDW art only got good once they started fan-artists despite many people on here and tfw2005 sperg out about it. Unless you spent years drawing TFs you'll never be able to just jump in and get it right immediately no matter how good you are. There's a reason why old Marvel books looked shit despite having some big names on the art.
>>
>>89606051
It is his own fault for working on something that wasn't creator-owned.
>>
>>89568560
Is it wrong I find MTMTE's Megs such a great character?
>>
>>89606318
That's not how it works, buddy. They straight up stole his designs.
>>
>>89606318

He didn't design the Bomber to be used in the comics, he wanted to pitch a comic that would use that design and IDW said no but they still used the design in the main books regardless. It'd be the same if hasbro just randomly took a fan character online and made a toy out of it there is legal precedence to it.

Tbf tho Don Fig relied too much on his LOOK CRAZY NEW TOYETIC DESIGNS than on his actual comic skills. He was a great character designer not a great story teller.
>>
>>89606403
It was a derivative product of their intellectual property. They would be allowed to do the same fan character canonization and production for the same reason.
>>
>>89606445

There's still a Lost Light in the Functionist Universe, right? This universe was created because Megatron was killed but when they fixed that they were still stuck in that time when they had to hunt down the future Lost Light (it had a different name back then, I think) and Cyclonus shot that dude with the sparkeater gun creating the same sparkeater that would later give them such a headache.

I'm trying to remember how the heck this all played out, but if it's still there they could maybe use the quantum engines to get back? Could they even steal the ship from the Functionist Universe and chase down Getaway? That'd be weird.

>>
>>89611890
It's not a time duplicate so probably not. It's legit alt universe. Which does leave me surprised the Functionists weren't efficient enough to gain the records of Rodimus and his crew. The Functionists DO love their records, after all, especially the line where alt-mode is designated.

I...I don't remember this at all and I've been on Scott sucks gravy train since #1.

>>89612448
The only thing I'm aware of that could be a contradiction is when Windblade was introduced in MTMTE she was said to be very quiet and reserved, but after she was anything but. Though mostly we were getting her internal monolog. At the time I figured the reason they didn't have Windblade say much was so her personality could be established more clearly in her own comic rather than have Roberts establish everything about her first, which wouldn't, I guess, be fair?

it was something to do with the whole why are there fembots thing and roberts wanted them to just be, with no different reason and scott was saying that theyre biologically different

remember when roboerts listed everyone's spark types during the alternate LL issues and nautica's was a female hormone at first? everyone lost their shit and he change it later in the trades and apologized, scott a bit after that mess then went on to say that fembots were actually physically different after roberts had just dealt with it and he was annoyed
>>
>>89613727
no one "lost their shit", it was an easy thing to fix, and no i don't remember scott saying anything about that. it never happened in the comics and if it did happen in apost or something, it never got big enough to become common knowledge. no one knows what you're talking about. i doubt they care, either. i don't.
>>
>>89613811
>>89613727

Ok I know this one I was following this drama. Esentially it was the "how do we female" so Robert's spitballed the idea of Nautica having an estroil type spark or something so that caused her to be "female". Twitter bitched as twitter does so Roberts went "you know yeah it's kinda dumb since that'd mean that every spark type is a different gender" and because he didn't want the fembots to be "biologically" different than males and wanted the gender to be a choice.

Then Scott a bit later when one or two dudes on tumblr bitched relentlessly to her because she kept destroying their all gay orgy that is transformers by introducing women said something along the lines of "I believe that there is some biological component that makes them female".

Those same guys then threw a massive hissy fit over it because MUH GODEMPEROR ROBERTS JUST FIXED THAT RREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE so there was some more bitching over it.

But there was no bitching between Roberts & Scott. I don't think Roberts even reads that happens in other books.

To be fair, Roberts is right on this subject. Gender is just a characteristic for them and identical Transformers can have different genders. This is consistent with the more recent fiction where "female" in other works is the same as ability to combine, having non-humanoid traits, or being smol in terms of them and are not mutually exclusive.
>>
>>89614215
Even the Covenant of Primus had a biological difference, albeit one that didn't really make sense and was probably limited solely to Solus Prime. It was just the pronouns they were using for our benefit.

>>89614215

If I may go full tumblr for a moment but the male/female duality of gender makes no sence for a sexless robot species. Unless we go with the pulp-fictiony Quintessons origins where the Autobots were robots built do do help, Decepticons build as war machines you can explain fembots as being sexbots or whatever.

But for a civilization developing on it's own without the influence of another organic species that has the male/femael split it would never happen. Sex is a big deal because it ensures the survival of a species and everyone is programmed to want to do it 24/7 in order to ensure the species continuation. So gender as a concept isn't something that is "natural" is it a concept that is closely connected to sex because again big fucking deal.

If we were to translate this to cybertronian it's most likely that they would develop THEIR gender (and gender roles) based on their altmodes. So planes would be one gender, trucks would be one gender etc. because alt-modes and transformation is a big fucking deal in their society.

Obviously this is all retarded and going too deep into a shitty franchise build around trying to convince retarded children to buy your lump plastic shit but if we all weren't brain damaged faggots we wouldn't be posting here now would we.

That's not even what the goddamn argument was. The goddamn argument was that male and female wouldn't even exist in the first place because robots don't have sexual dimorphism because sex isn't a thing on Cybertron.

See
>If we were to translate this to cybertronian it's most likely that they would develop THEIR gender (and gender roles) based on their altmodes. So planes would be one gender, trucks would be one gender etc. because alt-modes and transformation is a big fucking deal in their society.

Goddamn can you even see the word gender without going 'UHM WELL'?
>>
>>89614977
That is called Functionism, not gender.
>>
>>89615008
Functionism means a very specific career for each altmode. This is more of a broad spread of 'wings' or 'wheels' or 'animal'. For example, a tank could be in the 'treads' subsection of the 'wheels' gender, but his Functionist role would be very specifically 'garbage hauler for toxic waste plant'.

And Cybertronian gender would have developed differently than human gender, anyway, so anything we write on the topic is just bullshit we're making up, including this post.
>>
>>89614977
but that was a perfectly logical rebuttal.

Until recently Primus was the same multiversal singularity in every TF continuity along with the Twelve and Unicron, so he existed in IDW and was mentioned offhandedly a few times.
>>
>>89615388
>Ah, but not all? So they have developed outside of a male/female dynamic? Just like how robots could develop genders outside of dynamics they're accused to?

Yeah, no shit. That wasn't the argument. Nobody in this conversation ever said that robots couldn't develop genders outside of altmode generalization. We just said that's how Cybertronian gender would have probably started.

You're trying to defend something nobody attacked.
>>
>>89615450
Only mentioned in legend and folklore, never actually confirmed. The de-singularityifying happened throughout the multiversal timeline, so it could have removed any unconfirmed Primus that might have been in IDW.
So like, the reverse of this

>>89615597
I liked the singularity thing, too bad Hasbro decided to get in on it and basically jammed a wrench in the whole works to the point they had to remove the singularity bit so future fiction wouldn't be hamstrung.

>but here's how it could, see also: real life

I think I see where you're coming from, but I don't agree. For that to happen, it would require Cybertronians to come up with an understanding of the originally sex-based system (one which they know nothing about) of one tiny, short-lived species millions of light-years away (which they have not met) and, additionally, comprehend the history behind the original dichotomy and social implications. That's a lot different than making up a gender based on the phases of the moon or whatever.

Unless they just happen to invent the words 'male' and 'female' and make them mean whatever.

I'll give you the point about appropriating it from human culture once the two species meet, although I doubt they'd really understand it.
>>
>>89615893
what
no
i'm not saying they got it from humans
i'm saying, IN REAL LIFE, humans developed some new stuff, so why not, IN FICTIONAL ROBOTS, can't they do the same thing?
>>
>>89615893
The way it was written makes it sound like "Humans have male and female, so if we assign female to Solus Prime's people, we can show how we understand their culture!"
Meanwhile, we are all a bunch of people angry about this because they don't actually understand. Sort of like that one Marvel comic but on a less literal scale.
>>
>>89615893
They've had contact with other alien species before humans, the Decepticons spent a few millennia wiping them out to the point the Galactic Council blacklisted the entire race.
>>
>>89615965
I never said they couldn't develop new stuff. Nobody in this thread said they couldn't develop new stuff. I thought I clarified that in >>89615450 already. The main point in the original post was only that Cybertronian gender would have probably started with altmode types.
>>
>>89615983
True, but we dunno if they have male-female, at least how humans understand it.

>>89615973
Pretty much.

So they were a space faring race of warriors assimilating cultural traits from other worlds with the Solus Prime tribe adapting female role from aliens they encountered, Nova and his pals committed genocide against alien-influenced Cybertronians such as female and removed all traces of the idea of female from culture and made all members have non-female bodies (how this works is unknown due to the relatively vague nature between the spark, body, and programming), except for Arcee which Jhiaxus who was initially a "male" and remade into a female after development because he wanted to see what happens. They had some vestigial traits in the language that would accommodate genders despite not using them, and were able to be infiltrated by a female being that adapted to surroundings once with how much was using existing female and how much was a result of glamour is unknown. Meanwhile, the colony worlds had kept the male/female roles taken from aliens and there was some initial confusion when they met with the Cybertron-native members of the species, but worked it out and generally respect what the other one is called with very rare cases of outright mis-gendering.

Is this accurate?
>>
>>89616338
No because your very first point is pure unconfirmed guessing out of the blue. I didn't even bother to read the rest of it.

The Thirteen were the original Cybertronians in this continuity, simply warlords. Nova decried them as deviant and wiped them out and claimed their title of Prime. This part is established. If they were always that way, how could they deviate from an earlier state?
>>
>>89616278
Look at the context. That anon was referring to
>the male/female duality of gender makes no sence for a sexless robot species. Unless we go with the pulp-fictiony Quintessons origins

Not the existence of gender itself or the invention of other genders. If they wanna take male-female from humans once they meet us, they can go right on ahead, but it's not like they'd invent a completely and totally foreign concept for their first forays into gender.

Unless they never even thought about gender before meeting humans, which is a whole other can of worms.

Well, that's how IDW deals with it... In the IDW universe, Transformers are born with an alt mode, but can change it with some resources and time. A few exceptions existed, of course, with the Dinobot foray into the caverns underneath Cybertron.

The issue is that the Functionists took the birth alt-mode as the be-all end-all and considered changing alt modes to be anathema.

I liked this issue. It has some good surprises. It's got a different dynamic, and we're going to have to wait to see how the attention will be split between the two universes. Which is different from a story being split between two locations.
His head's the _what?!_ Now that's using an alternate universe setup properly. Surprises. I liked the banter, too. With the Rung reveal I really want to read the next issue. We don't even know which version of his alt mode the artists will use.
After all "If you were going to go to an alternate universe, you really should try to learn things Universe 2 knows that they didn't find out in Universe 1." Wouldn't you want to come back with a dozen treasure maps and mining locations, the location of Atlantis, the secret of the Money Pit island? etc.

True, but the hammer being used by Bee, and the fact that Hasbro forced Bay and the writers back then to actually make good use of the TF fiction that has been established in the past (I think that's with Liefield, I can't remember), it doesn't hurt to speculate a bit more.

Still, you could be right. First time I heard the voice I actually thought it was Laura Haddock's character.
