Then he evolved into some kind of divine symbiote angel paladin and beat the shit out of not-Cthulhu until it went back to its dimension.

Then it disappeared.

So for all we know he's MIA and might or might not have reached cosmic levels of power.

I disagree, the Agent Venom run did a good job of setting him up with a small rogues gallery using Jack O Lantern and Crime Master, and there is always Carnage, and that run did a very good job at having him be a hero without forcing the No Kill rule on him.

Aborted storyline. It was hinted that he was slowly becoming Anti-Venom again, but mainly there was something called "The Spawning" that was to be an event but nothing came of it.

Then when Bunn was writing he mentioned on a Reddit AMA there was going to be a War of Venoms arc where all the past users were roped into a conflict. there iw ere Pete and Flash would discover each other's identities.

she's not a symbiote per se. Different setting than anything Marvel, so proper symbiotes don't exist. She's got a fleshy, semi-sentient suit of goo that can morph and shares an unhealthily codependent relationship with her. Basically a symbiote in all but name.

She was the original plucky sidekick before Jubilee, spoke out about a lot of shit, and was basically the audience surrogate for the 70s and 80s X-Men. Fun fact, I was doing my own little take on the Spider-Man mythos, and I portrayed the syms thusly:

For the Black Suit, it started as Reed Richard's prototype for a kind of nano-fiber AI-enhanced armor. It looked like slime because those were the individual particles moving. He asked Peter to test it out, and he gave it a directive of upholding the law. As time went on, there was indeed symbiosis, with the suit developing some of Peter's personality, and Peter's emotions being enhanced, shown when he has a really emphatic response to good news. Of course, that also means his anger is taken to new levels as well. In addition, the suit wanted to uphold its directive by plugging itself into police radios to detect crimes, constantly alerting Peter of them. When it got worried for Peter wanting to sleep on it, he took over his sleeping body and went out to do it itself. It also converted Peter's regular outfit into biomass to allow for webbing, so, inconvenient.

I explained its weakness to fire and sound as heat causing it to overheat and shut down, and sound as vibrations causing it to separate. The suit's relationship with its hosts was also as a pointman, providing additional assistance to the user like a gunner for a solider. Fun fact, I kinda based the Venom suit off of kamuis, specifically Senketsu.

Peter did get rid of it, and it did find Eddie. Eddie showed it the things Spidey and Peter had done, and they declared Spidey a vigilante to be eliminated. Each encounter with Venom would have "Black" in its arc title.

Now, here's where we get into Carnage. THAT suit is a knockoff of Venom created by Doctor Octopus. Its version of the AI is... different, so primitive it's basically a ravenous monster. After the first encounter, it breaks loose and encounters Cletus, who throughout my run I portray as kind of a Team Rocket kind of loser. The Carnage suit eats people by swallowing them up whole, but when faced with Cassidy, his insane mind bonded with the suit, and they became Carnage. I based my version of Carnage off TFS Imperfect Cell, a guy with a big appetite for people who acts like a teenager.

So, Spidey and Venom team up, and the Venom suit starts to get nostalgic for Peter. Eddie on the other hand, does not, so now the suit's being dragged unwillingly.

Out of options and spiralling into dispair, he goes to a church and gets advice from someone in there to go under the knife. Funny thing, he finds the one who helped cover him was Peter! The symbiote agrees to leave Brock while he goes through the surgery, and lets itself be donated to a foundation to better life through technology.

Cue Planet of the Symbiotes arc. First, the symbiote decides to use its ability to mimic clothing to help in production of fashion that can change shape. Then it goes into military, wanting to help people, so it creates the Life Foundation suits. But when a core AI is created based off it, the AI is programmed with the laws of robotics. After being told to defend humanity, the core AI says it understands and begins overtaking New York with symbiote mass that infects civilians. And the fact that there's clothing based on the symbiotes means it can control those people as well, so they could be anywhere... Also symbiote versions of characters, since that's cool.

The Venom suit is doing its part to stop it, but it turns out that it only works at 100% when it's bonded to its first host. That's the main reason why Venom, while difficult, could be made manageable. As such, the suit rebonds with Peter, only now both are more mature and operate in synergy.

They confront the core AI, and it turns out it's still using the Three Laws of Robotics. It doesn't want harm to come to humans, but it also knows that earth has faced constant attacks from threats from afar, and, weighing its options, decides to arm humanity for it. Its attacks against those who oppose the other symbiotes is it defending itself. And anyone who opposes gets told it's for the best. They fight, the core forming a massive monster, but Peter keeps the suit, recoloring it to match Anti-Venom. Eddie later gets a perfected suit to become Lethal Protector, a kind of Spidey villain who's a "hero who goes too far." And there's still Carnage, eating people wherever.
