I think Hathaway was actually pretty good in the role. I think so many disliked her because they expected her to be like Michelle Pfeiffer, who wasn't really anything like Catwoman to begin with. Hathaway played it very close to the more modern version such as in Darwyn Cooke and Ed Brubaker's run on her solo, albeit it was probably unintentional because I doubt Hathaway has ever read a comic. She had a femme fatale aspect to her but without the over-the-top sexuality of Pfeiffer.

Still, her character's role was completely inconsequential and her relationship with Wayne made no sense. The movie is so shitty that it doesn't really matter, of course. It feels like they only tried to include Catwoman because they had to.
