You're forgetting. /co/ wouldn't invest any thought in said hispanic girl in this scenario, in this genderbent version Star becomes the main character (A la Finn) and Marcia the desirable love interest, who loves him for another Chad.

They'd react a shitstorm just like how they did with Finn and call for the show runner's heads for pulling a stunt like that and having Marcia "Leave them", generating the same reaction when PB played with Finn.

I usually don't have time to watch anything on my TV (I'm 27) but my 15 yr old brother kept insisting I watch this by showing me clips of the show. At first I found it meh but after he showed me the opening I found it catchy enough to give the show a shot. I was pleasantly surprised. This is a really good show although a bit inconsistent at times but that's ok. Now I find myself shipping Marco and Star. It seems obvious the'll end up together but I don't know if the creator wants to have a surprise ending and not have them end up together (ala Ron and Hermione).

Any idea of where the show will end up?

Does anyone have any idea about how long it takes for a new episode to end up on kisscartoon or other sites?

Would you say this show is better than Gravity Falls?

I haven't watched much Gravity Falls (will in the future, just not at the moment) but something people have said re: Star Vs. and it is what I kind of agree with.

Mainly that GH was super obvious from Day 1 with DEEPEST LORE and SECRET CLUES and shit, while if you just watched the first Star episode you'd be justified in thinking it never progresses or changes and is more of a typical lolwacky cartoon comedy that would've been more at home in the last decade. And so while people who expected mystery 'n' shit from GF obviously got it, people only found about the whole lore/mythology/etc. of Star if they gave it a chance and stuck with it for a bit. Same thing as Steven Universe I guess, but since SU came out first it also was compared favorably to Star because it had more episodes to prove itself.

Now I think Star finally does have a reputation for having the leep dore among people who don't watch it, but it was a long time getting there and overcoming its reputation as plotless/lolrandom. I still regularly see people starting it who say "I know not to expect much plot..." and so on.

I really like the way Star Vs. has built on things but people aren't going to get the impression it does that unless someone tells them or they watch it themselves, and if the first episodes don't grab you (understandable) you can come away with a view of its progression, plot etc. that is wrong just from being based on a lack of information.

It probably has to do with the third eye/pineal gland. Daoists call the region of the brain it's in the Crystal Palace. Also the pineal gland can become calcified, meaning calcium phosphate crystals build up in it, fluoride is said to cause this among other things. So if the crystal does represent enslavement it could be related to that. Also Tom and other demons have a third eye. Unfortunately I think one of the show's actual flaws is that it's difficult to ascertain how much they know or don't know about things, or how they feel about certain developments, until they're addressed directly. And I don't mean I want everything spelled out to me; I mean these characters never fucking talk about anything.

And I guess that's actually being pragmatic on the part of the crew because the episodes are already short; we don't need to spend much time discussing things familiar to the audience or recapping past episodes until they become relevant again. At least these characters do things rather than stand around talking for entire episodes, in that sense.

But it makes Star and Marco seem unusually passive about the deep shit they're constantly involved in and the many people who want to kill them and all that.

Look, Marco clearly does not think of Star as anything other than a friend yet, that's why he's with Jackie. I don't even think Star is thinking of him as more than a friend yet, or at least she doesn't realize it. Of course, this could change.

Yeah, see also: Ludo shows up with what is very obviously a wand made from the missing piece of Star's wand, and nobody says anything. There's no talk about going after Ludo to get it back, no mention of maybe letting Moon know, nothing. Do they not know or do they not care? I discovered Daron Nefcy's tumblr page just now. It turns out that Star Butterfly was a character she's had since 4th grade. One thing, though. Right up to when she sold the idea as a show, Star was actually an ordinary kid. She was a big fan of Sailor Moon type shows and so she IMAGINED that she was a magical girl princess who uses magice to fight the forces of evil. I gotta say that learning this totally stunned me.

I think in Daron's early versions, Star was a 4th grader. So at least her fantasies come off as an innocent kid's overactive imagination. In this comic, though, she's a six grader. So her fantasies make her look insane crazy instead.

You jumped the gun on me.

That was how I found out about these comics. I discovered to my shock the original version of Princess Pony Head. It turns out that she was one of Star's delusions, which always showed up to to give her a pep talk. The thing is, Star's idea of Pony Head included contorted eyes, sharp teeth, and most stunning: blood and guts always gushing from the neck stump.

Man, that totally stunned me. Princess Pony Head originally was such a dark and gory idea. On the other hand, she now makes a lot more sense. Now we have the TV version, where PPH is real, but is just a spoiled princess, and she's part of a race of pony aliens that for some strange reason have no bodies.

Well, Magical Girl anime are usually superheroines of some sort, which Star really isn't. This show revolves more about her life on Earth rather than her fight against evil, despite the title. And the boy staying true to his crush and not getting into a relationship with the girl at first is also pretty common in the Magical Girlfriend genre. They usually don't become a thing until the end. That genre usually overlaps with the harem genre, where main characters are notorious for being shy losers who take really long to get brave enough to take the first step (again, Marco). Of course, there's exceptions to everything (including the magical girl not getting the boy at the end), but if this was Anime, Marco would definitely be the main character and this would fit that genre perfectly.

Magical Girl is more like Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Precure, etc. Magical Girlfriend is stuff like Ah My Goddess, I'm Gonna be an Angel, Chobits, or Dokuro Chan (though that one is a parody of the genre).

Fighting evil isn't Star's reason for being on Earth. She's mostly defending herself against attackers, not being a heroine who's trying to save the world. And most episodes revolve around her and/or Marco trying to solve mundane problems in their everyday lives. The Magical Girlfriend genre is exactly like this. It also often has villains that are specifically targeting the girl for some reason or another. Usually because she's really important somehow or they want to steal her power. You know, like Star. But like with this one, the main focus isn't on the fights against them.
