Hey, /co/! Gonna storytime Mike Costa's "Cobra: The Last Laugh", aka the only good thing to come out of IDW's G.I. Joe. (Well, other than the ARAH continuationand the current series with Skywarp).
We're going to see the attempts of a man named Chuckles to infiltrate the mysterious terrorist organisation, Cobra. Spoiler alert:it doesn't go great.
Anyway, how's your weekend going?
We'll start with a little prologue.
And now, the main event.
So, that happened.
This guy seems nice.
(Anyone reading?)
Ah.
Welp.
Oh. THESE guys.
Whoops.
End of part 1.
And now, something a little different...
I'll post the next part (Cobra II) if people are interested, but if not: thanks for reading.
Bump! Thanks a ton for the storytime, man. This was seriously one of the best Joe things ever.

Yeah, it's a good one. Blew me away when I first read it.
Just a shame that nothing else in IDW Joe really lives up to its promise. (Or anything else by Mike Costa, for that matter. I guess having Christos Gage on it helped a lot...)
Okay, got nothing better to do. Might as well storytime the next "volume" of this.
Bumps would be appreciated if you're reading, though.

Yeah, the Dixon ongoing was decent enough and Origins had a couple of real gems, but there's nothing in IDW with the consistent level of quality that this run gave us. Except ARAH, of course.
As for later Costa, I think the big benefit here was that by the time Gage left, most of the cast had been pretty strongly developed and Costa had gotten to "know" them. He seems a bit inflexible in that aspect as a writer: give him a character he's created or at least molded and over a prolongued period of time he'll give you something compelling. Give him a character he's never written for six-twelve issues and, well...
Gage IS a terribly underrated (and much more adaptable) writer, though.

True enough. And, I mean, his writing still has merit elsewhere; f'rinstance, he created the absolute best iterations of Alpha Trion and Thundercracker in his Transformers work. Just a shame that the rest of the run was absolute gash.

>the only good thing to come out of IDW's G.I. Joe
Some of it wasn't bad.
>>89476055
current series is GARBAGE gtfo of here
>>89478240
I'll admit that the main book could be entertaining whenever it was focusing on Cobra.
>>89478264
It's made the G.I. Joe team interesting and personable for the first time in the entire damn IDW run, my man.

>Mike Costa
>Good
Ahahahaha!
Costa is advanced levels of a hack.
>>89478294
Not in this case!
I mean, he is godawful 99% of the time, but Last Laugh is a modern classic.
>>89478286
it's fucking retarded
every character is out of character
>>89478326
It's not like any of them had any character before this.
End of part 2.You can only dream of having as much class as this suave motherfucker.

God, I freaking love this comic thank you OP and here's a bump

Like? And your toy bios don't count.

IDW universe of G.I. Joe tried a different method instead of Hama's stuff (at first). It allowed the writers to try new ways to spin the characters.
The problem is.. they eventually fucked it all up.
