I haven't kept up with this show since Stakes. Is that Finn's mom? When was she alive? When did she die? Give me the deets.
>>
>>89466141
I just finished the Island. My first thought was that I wished my mom was in hugging distance. I'll hug her first chance I get.
>>
>>89466141
But she might get the wrong idea.
>>
>>89466172
Finn's mom uploaded her brain to a computer and watches over the remaining human population with a bunch of mom-bots walking around tending to their needs.

Just what kind of relationship do you and your mom have?
>>
>>89466172
Can't tell you that without spoilers.

Her name's Minerva, she's a "helper" (doctor and stuff), she was under the mistaken impression that Mertin ran off with their son, she had a mental breakdown, then Dr. Gross killed like half the people on the Island accidentally with a horrible disease, all the helpers died, so she uploaded her brain so she could operate hundreds of Helper androids. She's nice but a little too protective.
>>
>>89466205
>>89466242
Wait, so what DID happen to Finn? And her husband?

Fuck, I don't want to actually watch the show. It jumped the shark too hard.

It's AT. It can't jump the shark. It can only get lame. It's not lame.

Some shady characters Martin ticked off hunted Martin down. In the chase the Island guardian robot attacked. In order to save themselves Martin attacked the Guardian single handedly. The ensuing fight seperated Martin and Finn. Susan was sent to find Finn. Oh yeah! Susan gets a rad backstory too!
>>
>>89466141
Gosh, I felt so bad for her at the end of episode 12. I can barely imagine what that that does to a person.
>>
>>89466141
She had a cute voice
>>
>>89466305
>Giant bear? Come on.
>I fought the Lich at the edge of space-time, man.
>You're out of your depth.

It was funny and neat to see Finn actually reference his past accomplishments.
>>
whoops, forgot to add spoiler, will delete the comment when the timer ends

anyone get sad over anything relating to "uploading their mind into a computer"?

it's not really her, she died a long time ago, poor finn.
>>

That cute little bit with the bat was the only part of that episode that I enjoyed.
>>
>>89466141
Watching this just makes me wonder what happened to Martin after he destroyed the guardians eye, he obviously cared about Finn enough when he was a baby, but when we see him in prison he couldn't care less about him.
>>

AT has been over this. Clones are both you. That's his mom. If she changes a lot then she may stop being his mom or maybe it can be likened to how a human naturally changes as they age and experience the world.

AT philosophy 101 up in this witch.
>>
>>89466550
Ellen McClain was emotionally disturbed by some of the content, so Caroline's role was greatly reduced. We don't know who she was before she became an artificial intelligence, and there are barely hints as to why she turned evil. And we sure as hell don't know how she forgot her own name or that she used to be human.

Being forcibly uploaded into a computer against her will, having her intelligence hindered with the personality cores, and anywhere between ten to a thousand years of isolation might do it
>And we sure as hell don't know how she forgot her own name or that she used to be human.

another anon from a different thread mentioned that the multiple islands represented multiple paths in which humanity could've gone, a isolated island with one old survivor, a world where humanity has gone virtual and became a shell of its former self, an abandoned dead world, and one that's pretty normal.

It was the war that the lich set off, remember? He was the whole reason why the world went to shit and was trying to finish the job when we first see him in the show
>>
>>89467051
Man Finn should have wanted to stay there for ages. In the beginning they even made it seem like they were gonna be gone for a long time so it wouldn't have even been a problem. Jake and BMO could have found some stuff to do while Finn was getting down with humanity.

Just stinks, my guy.
>>
>>89467093
>Man Finn should have wanted to stay there for ages.
damn, sounds like a good method of aging up his character with this as the timeskip

>>
>>89467151
They freaking better yo.
>>
>>89467084
No, there was a war and THEN the mutagenic bomb went off, causing widespread mutation and release of the avatar of death, the Lynch. The survivors who fled on the boat in Stakes did so after all that bizniz.
>>
>>89467207
Pretty sure that the LICH (he ain't no hang's man rope god damn boy) was working in the back ground causing shit to get worst and finally showed up when shit hit the fan
>>
>>89467151
>>89467164
Heck, with the biggest obstacle shut down, all it would take would be to chart out a much safer course... or build a less flimsy boat or something.

Either way, I don't see why Finn wouldn't suggest to PB that she open up diplomatic relations with the remaining humans and such. I mean, c'mon. Finn not being the last human, lost super-tech, AND getting a chance to meet the mother of the Hero of Ooo? She'd have to have some serious poo-brain.

>>
>>89467333

>>
>>89467272
Even if that were true it doesn't change the fact that the war happened, followed by the Mutagenic bomb, followed by the exodus. That means the exodus preceded some other cataclysm.

>>
>>89466537
it sounds to me like he kinda lost his marbles
we know finn gets senile when he gets old enough, at least in the pillow timeline.. martin's not half that old, but he might have only passed some of it down.
or maybe it was just seeing a bunch of crazy shit in space, y'know? like sometimes seeing that shit makes a Rick, sometimes it makes a Martin
>>
>>89466538
uploading your brain is too common to think of a specific example
>>89466594
that's not exactly right, she said the audio log of being uploaded against her will sounded way too disturbing, and everyone else agreed, so they left it out. that's the only thing that got left out
however, the details of the story changed many times during production, at one point you were going to find Cave hooked up to the shit, asking you in his typically chipper way to shut him off and let him die
>>89466684
yeahhh no dude, she already lost her memory and turned evil literally the first time she was turned on. that's part of the backstory. it happens long before any timeskips. The idea is that brain uploads don't really work very well, and don't save the important bits of you.
>>
>>89467535
I just never mention the bomb
>>
>>89466554
SOMA played with this, but I think climbed too far up its own ass and lost track of the narrative.
>>
>>89466927
he's gotta go back, man. with the guardian dead it'll be a lot easier to go back and forth but for now he has to get back home and save his game.
>>89466906
Uhhh they didn't go to different islands, mom's world is susan's birthplace.. remember? she even met her.
i loved how they did that, they straight up showed us finn's mom, and we had no idea who she was, didn't pay her two attentions whatsoever. MAYBE if the episodes had been released normally, people would have had a week to speculate over every little detail, seen the hat, the blonde hair, but otherwise she was just a three-second character who escorted martin off in a wheelchair.
>>
>>89467615
Though part of Caroline came back to the surface when you trecked through the sub levels and the end song likely indicates she lied about erasing her
>>
>>89467207
>>89467272
there was a regular war, then the 'comet' came in the form of the nuke creating the lich (either by having magic of its own or tapping into existing but long-forgotten magic when it hit) and, along with some other bombs, wiped out civilization instantly. the few who fled were basically just fleeting radiation, there was no further conflict to hide from, but given how poorly everyone remembers things, it's not surprising they got some details wrong
plus the slideshow shows what they were MOSTLY running from was the ooze-faced monsters.
>>
>>89467550
>>89467586
Maybe, without Minerva there to reign him in, he went back to his old habits a a coping mechanism, and then it slowly got worse over time until we meet the balding fatass from the Citadel.
>>
>>89467627

>>
>>89467652
Nah dude, I saw the leak soon as it was available and it was obvious.
White blonde lady with a freaking white bear cap? I would be insulted if that was anything other than Finn's ma.

They tried being sneaky but it din't work.
>>
>>89467667
yeah, there's clearly bits and pieces
plus if you take the bare simple facts and enter them into a computer, it will 'know' those facts. and if that computer has AI it's going to act them out.. but that's like writing 'sour' on a picture of a lemon and the AI acts it out and goes 'oh i see why he said that shit about the lemons. i totally understand that, because i'm a human just like you, fellow human'
>>
>>89467704
i guess i'm less observant than most. i didnt even see susan's hallucination, to me it went straight from fighting the jellyfish to susan complaining her head hurt, which made me like 'what? why does her head hurt?' and i rewound it a bit and i still didnt see anything, and just moved on
>>
>>89467719
I remembered Susan's hallucaination like a whole day later just while I was randomly thinking about Islands.

Also, let me blow your fucking mind: the little girl at the start of the first episode essentially foreshadowed the entire miniseries
>>
>>89467696

speaking of, that one was particularly brilliant because that sequence at the beginning appears to be establishing stuff, so you're tricked into thinking these next two kids and their frog are just another part of it. only when you rewatch do you realize they're probably not from the unknown at all, they're just prologue kids that give away the entire story

This definitely sounds like the most plausible answer.
>>
>>89466537
I think he started out kind of crooked, met a woman who made his life complete who he honestly cared about, then in one night his old life came back and fucked it up royally. He went through the extremely traumatic event of losing his partner, newborn child, and literally everything and everyone he'd known his entire life in a single night, and woke up the next day in a chaotic world that was completely alien to him.

The island episodes implied that Minerva had some kind of a psychotic break after she lost her family, not a hard stretch to assume Martin did the same, except he also had the added guilt of knowing it was his fault. We don't know anything that happened to him between then and when he reappeared later on, but it seems like he's decided that not caring about anyone but himself is the only way to keep from being hurt, and from hurting others.
>>
>>89467832
what does your keen insight say on the woefully slow and setback-riddled progress man-machine integration has taken so far?
>>
>People spoiling themselves rather than watching the show, especially when the show has gotten really good
>>
>>89467954
the problem with spoilers is you often dont know how good something is til you hear that part
fight club comes to mind. i had zero desire to see that, it sounded like a totally lame movie, no idea why people liked it
then years later I heard the ending spoiled and i'm like okay THAT is clever. but how do you advertise that? even telling people that there IS a twist would ruin it.
>>
>>89467974
not that guy but Islands for sure had enough shit in it upfront to peak interest.
the gang setting sail across the seas for the first time in the show's history? literally the most adventure there's ever been in adventure time. and that bangin' intro.

most people liked stakes a lot too so I don't think mom bait was really needed to lure people in.
>>
>>89467877
Your picture brings up a weird question.
If Martin's a comet/god now, does that mean we'll never see him again? Because it seems odd to give a sympathetic backstory to a character who has been written out of the show.
>>

I think SOMA's problem was more that the protagonist couldn't piece together basic ideas throughout the entire game.
It made people who actually cared about the narrative cringe the whole way through.
I've never felt more angry at a fictional character then I did at the ending of that game. You've had this explained to you so many times you little idiot. God damn.

Well i personally liked islands more then stakes. And fin probably was able to leave pretty fast as all the big questions were answered in a pretty short timescale. What happened to humans, were did he come from, and his parents all answered.

As for what happened to his dad can be easily seen with what happened to his mom.

when the mom lost her son and it looked like the husband had a hand in it look what happened to her, she became lost in who she was outside her family. Went deep down the helper rabbit hole. Would it be unreasonable the a man who lost his son to his past mistakes and was locked out of paradise from his wife wouldnt do the same? Deep down into the darkest parts of his criminal self

man that part was nowhere near romantic, just a touching moment of realization that Finn wun't alone.

only thing I thought the pair had going for them was continuing the human race if Susan turned out to be human and well, as of Islands that doesn't seem to be much of an issue.
>>
>>89468044
They definitely made it sound like that was the last time we would see him, what with Finn basically accepting that Martin is just the way he is. What's worse is only we know Martin's backstory, Finn doesn't know any of the stuff from the flashback episode. He might live the rest of his life just thinking his dad was a deadbeat and that's it.
>>
>>89468326
>I never thought she was a viable candidate, but rule of elimination, y'know? Plus they had that kinda sweet scene with under her hat.

>>
Was I the only one sad that Martin was redeemed?

He was such a good asshole character, and I feel like him actually being a decent guy completely ruins the moral of the deal with the show saying that sometimes your parents are just bad people who don't care about you.

Now I feel like the show made Finn's hopeless dream about his dad being a good guy all along from Escape from the Citadel true and it really defeats the message.
>>
>>89468360
It was a sweet moment. Yeah, it probably wasn't romantic, but at this point she was the only character that could offer any kind of romantic resolution. Plus she's just as strong and adventerous as he is.

It'd have been better if they hadn't written all his love interests out, but what can you do? AT has dumb writers.

>>
>>89468558
it's not about losing your humanity, youre essentially making a copy of the original. the mind in the computer is a copy of the original person, and the original either keeps on living or dies.

finn's mom has been dead for a long time now, he's only talking to a copy of her.
>>
>>89468585

If the copy retains everything the original has, what makes it different from the original?
>>
>>89468585
I don't think that's entirely how the setup for Finn's mom works though. If it was then she'd be essentially killing Finn when she was asking him to be connected in and the VR island shows that they have the technology to keep people alive for ages in pods. She wouldn't even be that old by the time Islands happens.

I don't know how the whole process works with the robot minds, but they don't seem to have actual personalities of their own considering Finn's mom can just give them orders directly.

>>
finn's got a robot hand again now? and a regular rapier?
>>
>>89469021
Here's a fun thought experiment for you.
You find out your best friend/mom/whatever is dead, but there's an exact duplicate with all their memories. You go on living your life with this person. You assume this person is now them, correct? They're as much the reason thing as they are? You make new memories with them. Share new experiences with them. They're really real.

Turns out the original never died. Now which one is real?
>>
>>89468954
Is it cucking if she had the kids before she met Pig?
>>
>>89469063
No
>>
>>89468992

High Strangeness. Tree Trunks mated with an alien had kids and expected the pig to be cool with it. He very clearly wasn't.
>>
So what in AT started the end of the world?
>>
>>89469053

They are still both my mom. Each decision they would make is something only my mother can do and as such they function alike.
>>
>>89468860
First question isn't very compelling.
In the example they're both my mom, so I'd probably hug the one that's not made of metal because that would be more comfortable I guess?

If one of them died, well alright hold on.
So first of all, let's get out of the way the fact that they are, by all definitions, different people.
The second their consciousnesses split and they started making new memories that are private from each other, they would deviate enough to be considered unique.
However, them being individuals doesn't change the fact that, up to a point in time, they are the same person, and so have both fulfilled the requirements of being my mother.
Now for the next part, let's call it "would I react to one of their deaths", it all depends on how much time has passed/ how different they have become. If they haven't had enough time to deviate from each other, like in the show where his mother sacrifices her physical body in order to upload herself, it would most likely not effect me. The residual consciousness would simply be a continuation with a change. Nothing to be upset about.
If they were significantly separated and I had maintained good relations with both offshoots though, I could see myself mourning her loss. It would also probably be a pretty trippy experience for the remaining mother.

I hope this answers all of your questions dont forget to subscribe and donate to my autism webzone
>>
>>89469053
> Now which one is real?
"Both" is a valid answer, which is why such thought experiments are useless. It all boils down to a definition of "self-identity", which we don't have yet. Part of the reason why the whole brain uploading and AI thing is so intriguing and prominent in media is because it's one of the few remaining things the modern "allmighty" science still has no way of even approaching.

>>
>>89469053

>>
>>89469135
I dunno, that's like having twin brothers and when one of them dies, you just think. Aw well, he's still alive because the other twin is still alive.
>>
>>89469173
I feel this is a reference that is just barely out of reach.
>>
>>89469166
>>89468161
It's implied that the other survivors are plugged into a pleasant virtual reality. Couldn't Simon 2/3 and Catherine have just found a way to do that to themselves? Hell, eventually the WAU is gonna get better at remaking humanity, and there are still full, living humans under there. It's not like things aren't fixable.
>>
>>89467895
Not a setback as it branched into a different path than was originally thought. As it stands now the path is a merged consciousness will be on a one to one basis gestalt instead of a larger collective.
>>
>>89469188
It feels like you didn't finish reading what I wrote, which is acceptable and expected considering it's length and cringe, but it hurts my soul a little anyway
>>
>>89469244
You know, I think I've been making this too one sided with only dealing with this from Finn's perspective. What about his mother's? What if a copy of you suddenly existed? What if your family started to neglect you and spend more time with it? Eventually you die, but that's okay with the family because they got the copy.
>>
>>89469210
Thing is theirs wasn't ever a transference just copying.

There is likely another few copies on that proto ark and others depending if they were killed or not. If the WAU can be made to understand can be helped to improve. There very well stood the possibility of two versions of the offspring of man one mechanical and the other virtual.

I'd like to see a game in which those societies would meet.
>>
>>89469279
> What if a copy of you suddenly existed?
The thing is, a full copy can not exist. Even assuming the replica of "me" has the exact same memories/personality/body/everything as "me" at the moment of its creation, the very next second we will be two different individuals because both of us have experienced the second differently. Technically, "I" change and become a different person every moment of time, and the same would be true for the copy. None of us would be "more me" than the other.
> What if your family started to neglect you and spend more time with it?
I would be jealous, but it's not qualitatively different from my family adopting a child and neglecting me in favour of him/her.
>>
>>89469282
I know it's just copying. But the other survivors exist in the facility.

And by the sounds of it the WAU has them hooked up to a pleasant virtual reality. Couldn't Simon and Catherine find a way to plug themselves into that? No copying needed, since they're already robotic. And the WAU is just testing things at the moment, eventually I imagine it'll get good enough to revive humanity in some form. Killing it is the most short sighted thing ever.
>>
>>89469279
Are you your memories, or are you your body, or something else?
How can you know you are you?
How much would you have to remove before you stopped being "you"?
>itt babbys first existential experience
>>
>>89469324
You know, you're giving the copies way too much humanity. You're lacking sentimentalism or passion for the original and just think that a copy is good enough. I can probably compare this to video game emulators, a lot of people would rather play on the original hardware than run a rom on an emulator.
>>
I don't understand why Minerva and Frida were the only ones wearing their hats. Most of humanity died, but what the hell happened to everyone else from the old era? It would make sense if only Minerva was wearing a hat, but there's someone actually alive with one.

Here's a question for all you anons. Do you think that humanity will ever play a big role in Adventure Time again? There's a whole island of them out there, and as was shown in Islands their technology could easily destroy any of the current kingdoms in Ooo if they wanted to.

Do you think they'll ever actually reveal their continued existence to the world again, or will they only be mentioned because they're tied to Minerva?
>>
>>89469821
They blatantly set up them leaving the island, silly.
>>
>>89469855
Yes, but none of them left. And I don't so much mean individual humans, I mean like whatever government that runs the island actually going to Ooo in some form.
>>
>>89469821
> Do you think that humanity will ever play a big role in Adventure Time again?
Most likely not. However advanced their technology might be, psychologically humans are childish and immature. When asked about their fears they responded with "spiders" and "frogs", even Minerva believed that leaving the island would destroy them. Not to mention they were pretty content living carefree lives and didn't express any real desire to leave, for the most part.
I think getting a new human adventurer from the islands as a recurring c-list charater (Frida) is all we can expect.

Does anyone else hate it in series like this where humans aren't the prominent species, that they always seem to treat humans like they're shit pushovers that somehow can't do anything right?

I know it'll never happen now, but I'd be so happy if humanity, or a faction of humanity, was a major villain at some point (as in similar to the Litch, a major reoccurring villain for the season finals). That would be accompanied by most citizens of Ooo being scared because they're basically a species right out of legend that at some point nearly destroyed the world.

>>
>>89469949
> Does anyone else hate it...
I certainly don't. If anything, AT did a good job rationalizing it. Given the backstory of the island society, it makes sense for them to be boring isolationists. It honestly feels right for the humanity to be secluded and irrelevant in the setting of AT. If you want a "humanity fuck yeah" story, go read Starship Troopers or something.

Dr Gross could work if they do it well, and if they bring her back at all. With the ice elemental running around, it's not really clear at this moment who will be the major villain for the near future.

It actually isn't. People got bored with the show when the tone shifted away from happy go lucky adventures, to one with a more philosophical bent.

You're acting as if every candy kingdom episode is exactly the same, which is simply not true.

Now that I look at the screenshot, these are not the same rapiers. They look very similar, but Finn's one has a golden guard, while Rattleballs' one has a silver one.

I remember the episode that killed this show for me. It was where they go to the maze or monster train or whatever but they're just like totally bored with it and don't want to adventure anymore. I still clung along for a bit longer but eventually dropped it from all the constant MUH TEEN ANGST romance drama shit and the cinnacucking.

Man, am I sick of hearing this argument. She's always been obsessively overprotective of her citizens, she's always been morally ambiguous, and she's always been a quirky oddball. Just because she exhibits different aspects of her personality in different episodes does not make it inconsistent.

>>89470376
She makes a great villain, it's annoying when the series decides to forget her crimes against mutant-humanity and just pretend she's a fun friendly nice person who dindu nuffin.
>>
>>89470415
And a reason why Finn and Jake stopped going on adventures was exactly how much screentime the Candy Kingdom ,PB and other minor characters got. Especially PB has completely outgrown the protagonists and makes them obsolete in their own show. Guess who is going to handle the new big threat, pro tip it's not Finn or Jake.
>>
>>89470444
>a quirky oddball
When quirks are random and odd, it's because they aren't well enough justified. You forgive it because you want to see some kind of big picture, but she's just not well enough defined.

>Just because she exhibits different aspects of her personality in different episodes does not make it inconsistent.
That's exactly what it means, actually. I know you want to think of her as some kind of multifaceted nuanced character, but she's really just whatever the writers are needing at the time.

>>89470469
Indeed. It seems like certain writers want her to be blameless, while others are more interested in furthering better plots. It's sickening when a character becomes someone's little pet and they hold them back to keep them likable.
>>
>>89470474
This actually, at least about who will defeat who. The elementals will be the ones who beat Ice Kings girlfriend, not Finn/Jake.
>>
>>89470474
>And a reason why Finn and Jake stopped going on adventures was exactly how much screentime the Candy Kingdom ,PB and other minor characters got.

It's a tad unfair to blame this on PB, but I agree with what you're saying.

> Especially PB has completely outgrown the protagonists and makes them obsolete in their own show.

I don't think that's fair, asides from Stakes of course. I can't think of many examples of PB being at the forefront desu except for the most recent episode.

>Guess who is going to handle the new big threat, pro tip it's not Finn or Jake.

Big Bad is being beaten by Finn, no doubt. They are setting up PB to take down Patience though, which isn't a bad thing IMO.
>>
>>89470469
I legitimately think they lost their stomach for making PB a villain around the time they decided to indulge the lesbian shippers. Like they couldn't allow her to be gay AND evil. Afraid of the association.

And really, if that's true, it's the worst thing this show has done. Held back better plot points for some tokenism.

Wrong. Round characters must always be a little unpredictable or they become stale.

>I know you want to think of her as some kind of multifaceted nuanced character, but she's really just whatever the writers are needing at the time.

I'm not convinced these two things are entirely mutually exclusive. For instance, in the episodes 'The Tower' and 'The cooler.' The writers need PB to be a little morally ambiguous in pretending to be Martin in order to get Finn to let out his pent up anger, and in destroying the fire guardians. At the same time they also demonstrate that PB does this purely out of good intentions, and at the end of The Cooler even turns off her entire surveillance setup after realising she had crossed the line.
>>
>>89470584
>Round characters must always be a little unpredictable or they become stale.
Well gee, it's almost as if they could have relied on other characters to prevent that. Well, they could have if it was still the "Finn and Jake" show.

>after realising she had crossed the line.
She's crossed the line so many times in the past, that this reeks of writer favoritism instead of redemption. They keep trying to do this, like with that Tree Trunks episode, showing her with restraint and caring about non-candy peoples, and it's all terribly inconsistent. If they wanted to show PB had really changed, they should stop showing her patching the latest problem she's caused and show her being a genuinely good person in other aspects of her life. Maybe go out of her way for other kingdoms or something.

You would be more because you are the original who sat on the chair to make another you. Your parents know who came first and who is a copy. it doesn't matter how much you try to say you both are the same in the end of the day one experienced nothing and the other had real suffering, love, rape, hope, fear and parents who raised him or her. Your can argue that he also has this, but this would be false as your parents remember only having one stupid son not a copy.
>>
>>89470620
>She's crossed the line so many times in the past, that this reeks of writer favoritism instead of redemption

Don't get me wrong. I don't believe that PB is fully redeemed. I'm just defending the idea that she can both be genuinely caring, and morally questionable without being inconsistent.

>If they wanted to show PB had really changed, they should stop showing her patching the latest problem she's caused and show her being a genuinely good person in other aspects of her life. Maybe go out of her way for other kingdoms or something.

'The Cooler,' 'Pajama Wars,' 'Varmints,' 'Thin Yellow Line,' 'Bun Bun,' 'The Music Hole' all show signs of PB beginning to grow as a person. In Varmints, PB opens up to her past personal failings as a friend to Marceline, and begins to understand why her people turned against her. In 'The Thin Yellow Line' she allows the Banana guards more freedom, and encouraged them to express themselves. In 'Bun Bun', she goes out of her way to make CB happy, who is no longer part of her kingdom. In The Music Hole she puts on a concert just to cheer Finn up.

It's there anon, and while she retains some of the more morally questionable parts of her personality, we are definitely seeing a great deal of character development from PB, which is only going to grow with the upcoming elemental arc.

Back the FUCK up

WHERE did baby Finn get his hat?
>>
>>89472259
Horse was dissatisfied with his job in the city, goes off to the forest to start a new simpler life.

After cheering up a girl bat by balancing on a ball and saying "James Baxter", he realizes he can find joy in making others happy, and goes around doing just that.

That's all he focuses on. Girl bat follows him around because she's in love with him, but he never reciprocates because he's too focused, and she flies away sad again.

He continues living on like this. One day his ball is popped and he's suddenly jolted back to reality. He can't function without the ball.

Finn makes him realize that he should be trying to make himself happy instead of making others happy and being satisfied by proxy.

So the horse gets up and starts dancing. People don't get all giddy when they watch him do this, like they did when he was balancing on the ball. But he's making himself happy by dancing.

They took a character with a simple gimmick and tried to give him a deeper personality, it's not an uncommon routine.

My impression is that Martin suffered some memory loss when the Guardian's eye exploded and knocked him into the ocean. That's why he didn't seem to recall even having a son when he first met Finn, and that's why his flashback in The Visitor was hazy on the details.

Reuniting with Finn seems to have resulted in some memories returning (hence naming his escape ship "The Minnie"), but not enough to give him the full picture.

I doubt it. I don't think there is going to be a convenient happenstance to explain Martin being a dick. They got seperated, Martin went back to his old ways, and now he just doesn't care.

Finn having a dead beat dad relates with people with actual deadbeat dads. Conveniently doing away with that when in real life some people simply have asshole dads would hit a sour note with a lot of fans. Amnesia doesn't happen that often in real life which is why it is an unrelatable circumstance.

>>89472259
The story was a direct allegory for the state of the show over the last few years.

The Horse-on-Ball era of Adventure Time represents the wild, early success of the show.

The ball popping represents some kind of slowdown around S3 somewhere.

The sad horse represents S4-5 with the horse trying to cope with the massive brain drain that hit the AT staff around this time.

The bat represents a beloved staff member with good chemistry and great ideas suddenly leaving the show. (I bet it was Sugar. She is associated with marceline, Also, the bat has a haircut....?)

The horse becoming happy and breakdancing represents the staff finding either their Groove or their Mojo again, artistically.

I know my interpretation is wacky, but it feels true to me. I still remember John Hodgman waxing eloquent on the fantastic work Adventure Time was doing (while on his Judge John podcast), and his sidekick Jesse Thorne sat silent and did not respond. There was a period of dead air, then John Hodgman did not discuss the point in any way ever again. ... This felt ominous to me. This podcast came out during S4-5, if i recall correctly. Jesse may have been telling John off-air about the decline of this formerly fantastic show so that John did not lose face on-air... But I can't prove this either.

I will post a link to the episode if i find it

Your greentext is completely nonsensical. The post you're responding to challenged the idea downloading upscales. It never said compression artifacts come from upscaling. The whole point would be whether or not the compression artifacts from streaming were gotten rid of by downloading, not whether they're caused by downloading. If you took that amount, you could make an encoding that took the same amount of memory and had higher quality, by virtue of the fact that streaming algorithms have more constraints imposed on how data is encoded. This is the only way in which that anon could be considered to be correct.

In reality, most people who bother to encode an episode for downloading won't be targeting such low filesizes because of the artifacts that would be introduced, which is why you've noticed that encodes you download take up much more memory/data than streaming does.

>streaming is a million times more efficient
Streaming isn't "more efficient", you just sacrifice quality for smaller file size, which typically means having shitty compression artifacts. You either don't notice them or don't care.

John Hodgman and Jesse Thorne saying nice things about Adventure Time -- (at 15:45 or so.) http://www.maximumfun.org/judge-john-hodgman/judge-john-hodgman-episode-178-chambers

Not really. Martin's still a scumbag for the way he's acted in the series before the Islands episodes. The only thing that's changed is that now we know that he's not such a scumbag that he'd willingly abandon his wife and infant child.

He'd still willingly abandon his pubescent child though.
>>
>>89474429
I feel like he's not as bad because there must have been a reason he was acting how he did in his first episodes besides just that being his natural character. He seemed much more of a lovable rogue type deal than a piece of shit desperately trying to escape everyone and everything.

I don't think you can blame him all that much because it seems like he either has some fucked up mental defects after the Guardian or he just got traumatized and repressed the memory or something.
>>
I'm so glad Islands was good. I was hoping that the show would use Stakes as a model of where to improve and I feel like they totally did that.

Islands was able to deliver much more satisfying conclusions and make every member of the team feel useful and give them enough importance in the story, much better than Stakes did.

>The whole point would be whether or not the compression artifacts from streaming were gotten rid of by downloading
It typically does, provided you don't download a shitty encode. The availability of good encodes depends on a number of things.

>How could compression artifacts "come from upscaling?"
Downscaling is often used as a (shitty) form of compression. Upscaling a downscale to 1080p, instead of just using the original 1080p release, is going to result in shitty artifacts from that compression.

I can't remember when exactly I stopped watching. I've seen Stakes recently (which was good) and maybe a few random episodes. But which episodes/seasons am I suppose to watch to catch up again? I don't really feel like needing to watch a whole lot of crap to get to the good again.

I heard RS got good again too and the finale being really great. Unfortunately I was spoiled on that one before being able to catch up

You're not very far behind at all if you saw Stakes, that was in season 7 and this is season 8. You got around 35 or so episodes to go if you want to be filly caught up.

Although now that I think about it, I do recall really liking "Jake The Brick", so this argument is pointless, I guess. The end of season 5 and all of season 6 less one episode are still bad, though.

Their last episodes have all been pretty subpar, but overall they're the best duo on the show imho

>Puhoy
>BMO Lost
>Be More
>Dungeon Train
>Escape from the Citadel
>Ocarina
>Evergreen
>The More You Mo

Steve Wolfhard also worked on King Worm and Daddy Daughter Card Wars, and Tom Herpich has worked on a shitton of episodes without Wolfhard

>Freak City
>Memory of a Memory
>Too Young
>Thank You
>Five Short Graybles
>Goliad
>The Lich
>Hall of Egress
