I think the search for the Holts could make for a good Lance story arc in Season 3 or 4.

Maybe Lotor dangles the scheme in front of him to sow discord among the Paladins or perhaps he comes into the idea on his own, but Lance could get it into his head that he can redeem/prove himself by rescuing Pidge's father and brother. After all, not even Shiro could save them, so if he success where he failed, then he can show everybody; Allura, Coran, his fellow Paladins, and himself that he's just as good as Shiro. Or at the very least, better than Keith.

So you've got Blue sporadically powering up during battle because its pilot has a fire under his ass, and catastrophically malfunctioning because it can sense that Lance wants to ditch it for Black.

You've got Pidge initially ecstatic that Lance is suddenly so invested in helping her family until she starts to notice how controlling he is during the search, ultimately realizing that he's just leading the charge to satisfy his ego.

Throw in some deep-cutting insults, a little friendly fire, and a sprinkle of desertion and you've got yourselves a subplot.

Pretty sure I know how the Lotor reveal is going to go. They're going to have an issue finding a 5th paladin, and some pretty boy is going to show up to try for the part. Going to turn out its Lotor in disguise because he's half Altean and can shapeshifter. He'll pilot a lion for a bit, and then the conclusion can go a couple of ways. He might steal Red and actually make off with it by the end of an episode, only to lose it when Matt shows up and rages his way in to Red's good graces.

That type of story also gives Lotor a good chance to get some scenes with Allura, leading to his obsession.

Changing lions basically undermines every plot point about the lions we have gotten for the past 2 seasons. The whole point is that the lions aren't machines and they have their own personalities and they bond with pilots.

Red Lion has bonded so well with Keith that it actually activates on its own and fights for him.

My personal theory is that Shiro triggered a trap Alfor set in the black lion set to trigger if Zarkon tried to use his Bayard in the black lion. Shiro's arm counts as Galra for most sensors and other things, so it might have triggered Alfor's trap. I hope they rescue him because Alfor was too kind hearted or unable to set the trap to kill Zarkon and he is just in a prison or something.

Maybe Coran will remember a special Altean prison that is outside of time and normal space that can only be accessed through the gates Alteans can use. They end up going there to rescue Shiro and save a bunch of Alteans that were either imprisoned there long ago or ran there to seek shelter.

The issue is that Zarkon stopped being a paladin but still had a link with the black lion. Then Shiro came along and forged a new bond with black lion, and eventually Shiro overcame Zarkon's bond to the point that he couldn't do anything except incredibly short range while getting a crapload of quintessence to power his abilities.

That is besides the point because Keith, Lance, Pidge, and Hunk have all seriously bonded with THEIR lions. I don't like the idea of Allura becoming the black lion pilot because I think her character has enough to do. It would be making too many things on one character. King Alfor kept the Black Lion with the castle because he knew Zarkon would be after it above all else. King Alfor also knew that Zarkon still possessed the Black Bayard.

Given that Alfor had access to the Black Lion, and was determined to prevent Zarkon from getting it back, the most reasonable assumption is that Alfor set a trap in the Lion for Zarkon.

The question then is what was that trap?

Well, we know that Alteans were big on wormhole technology. Allura and Coran know how to build a giant portal generator, so it isn't a huge leap to suggest Alfor and his subjects could build a small one and conceal it in the Black Lion.

So when Shiro used the Bayard in Black it sprung a trap meant for Zarkon that teleported him to some obscure hidden corner of the universe. I also like the suggestion that Shiro's arm being Galran had something to do with the detection along with the Black Bayard being used.

This is the most simple theory with the fewest leaps in logic. The absorption thing is the one with the most, I think.

We know he fought in the arena, that he did well, and we were given a specific example. We have a basic understanding of how he lost his arm. Haggar reveals some details on that front as well. We know how he escaped, who helped him escape and why. I feel like all the big mysteries that were teased regarding Shiro's time in Galra Jail are pretty much wrapped up now.

While I do like the theories that Lotor will fixate on Lance and take advantage of his insecurities, if he's going to fixate on anyone the most likely one is Keith--assuming that Lotor will be a hybrid in this series as he was in GoLion. This would lead to an interesting parallel with Keith, and it's also safe to assume that Lotor had a difficult and/or lonely childhood like Keith. Should Lotor find out about this, I can see him trying to lure Keith to join the dark side. Think of it this way: Lance is Space Johnny Bravo. Lotor is Space Gaston. They have enough in common that it might be fun to see how they interact, but they are clearly different takes on the same theme.

I think thw Lance and Lotor thing is being vastly overplayed. It's far more likely that Lotor will be most interested in Keith and Allura, with everyone else a distant third. There might be one gag about them being somewhat similar, but I seriously doubt it'll go anywhere.

The one thing that I liked from 3rd was that Tim Curry/Lotor gave this really awesome speech about how he was Prince Lotor and he does the impossible. I can never find it online. I think that concept that he has good enough to be a threat even when he had nothing or was completely beaten was really cool. Like he had that spark you'd find in a hero but he really was a hero for the side of evil.

Original Zarkon frankly had nowhere to go but up. He was nothing but a blowhard and a seat warmer. The most interesting thing he ever did was have his throne usurped and get the Robeast treatment.

Original Haggar actually was cool, but I'd never think to put her on the same level as Lotor in terms of what made him such a classic character. And a lot of what made Haggar cool was retained for this version.

Changing Zarkon or Pidge or Allura can't be compared to completely reworking Lotor and taking away the things that made him such a fan favorite in the original.
