My idea is to star having them age in real time.

This would put a definite time limit on how long they keep the show going, and make it seem more important and interesting to see new episodes.

Show Bart and Lisa going through puberty and getting boyfriends/girlfriends and not just crushes, Maggie talking (more than just one word) and walking, have Grampa die. Have them change their hairstyles and wear different clothes on different days. Pick a definite time for the series to end. And then go out gracefully with a good conclusion.

Obviously they need to make it funny too. I realize what I just wrote might sound like a lot of Very Special Episodes or a soap opera but that's not what I intended. Make it funny and joke-heavy, but also have them age and change in ways that make all the episodes no longer interchangeable.
