iceman doesn't have any fans to begin with so no one cared about the actual outcome
people were pissed off though because A) he couldn't just be bi, instead all his prior relationships got invalidated
B) Bendis blatantly picked a character he gave no fucks about to make gay as a PR stunt
C)that was the beginning and the end of Bendis's plans for Bobby. He wasn't interested in exploring the character at all and just kicked him to the sidelines whenever the plot gets serious. So Bobby's not even gonna get any new fans out of this

What character would cause the most controversy if they came out as gay/bi? It's gotta be one of the big, iconic heroes, right? Something like Captain America or Spider-Man.

How do you guys like your gay plotlines to go?
I like it when it's gradual and you're left wondering if the characters like each other before they actually get together. Realistic, too, so they have to face the taboo nature of their relationship.

For DC, Batman, because he is their biggest name at the moment and because people would take that as a confirmation that he was molesting all the Robins.

For Marvel, I think Peter Parker Spider-man. People are so invested in Peter's love life for some reason, and he is one of those characters who has several fairly iconic female love interests.

It started because Spider-Man and Deadpool had similar masks and fujoshits really liked the idea of thosr two, they even became insanely popular with Japanese artists.

Then Kelly started feeding the shippers with Spider-Man/Deadpool and it felt do weird that he had Wade suddenly think Spider-Man was the best and hero worship him when he didn't have that attitide towards him before (especially in his original run, he hated when people called him Spider-Man).

Before that their relationship was really antagonistic or they would just quip at each other and Peter would get angry or frustrated at Wade who would then tell him to fuck off.

That said I prefer Cable/Deadpool myself it felt less forced and more believable seeing has their relationship had to mutually develop from being antagonistic to a bromance and then they had to go through betrayals, break ups, either Wade or Cable acting like a dick, and then getting back together with the awkward apologies and struggling to find the words to what to say to each other.

Poor dude has been through enough and deserves better. Cablepool is the vastly superior gay Deadpool ship but tumblr girls don't know who Cable is so yeah, unfortunately Spideypool has become the more popular ship. well you could do a basic role reversal, where Hal has been a lantern for a long time and has secretly been Parallax for several years (either the mad reality warper or fearbug victim could work, your choice), starts training new recruit Sinestro, they get close, then Sinestro finds out about Hal's little secret

I guess then you could either go the "original" route where Sinestro exposes him and Hal gets banished or you could have Sinestro join him because it's the easiest way to stop civil war on Korugar and Sinestro thinks he could use Hal's power to keep order better throughout the universe

Never really thought about it too much but you seemed to put it into words. Either that or just as flawed/loving as any other relationship. No creepy stalker fujoshit abuse porn or overly sentimental can-do-no-wrong idealized relationship. You so rarely see actual conflict between gay characters that has some far reaching impact. Instead you either get carbon copy couples that have the same personality and never argue or one sided tragedy.
