Marvel. Marvel made them make a lot of bineheaded moves that sunk the game, including manufacturing two million Hulks and having them make a figure of Yondu, a character no one wanted and they literally couldn't give away.

Simplistic and repetitive gameplay, high cost of play, poor world building tools, franchise switching with each edition, little forward or backwards compatibility between editions, and ignoring fanbase desires for the game.

Disney wanted a piece of the Skylanders pie but didn't realize how hard it would be to remain competitive, or that their character choices weren't stellar, particularly Marvel.
They also counted heavily on Star Wars giving the game a huge boost but it didn't really happen. Just like with TFA, they banked heavily on nostalgia and flooded the line with OT characters without realizing their core audience didn't have a real connection to the classic characters.
