I don't, mostly because Willis is only using her as a one-note wacky lesbian because he can't write lesbians as anything other than wacky and whimsical or tortured and DEEP.
She should have been given the journalist role that Dorothy took.

It's not even the anachronism that bothers me anymore, not since this strip was posted to /fit/.

That's how we differentiate the two.

Also, I can't wait to see how Willis conclusively brushes away Becky's desire to be a generic scientist, without actually going into a specific area of focus.

When Patreanon first posted the strip to these threads, the first thing that came to my mind was if this was even possible to do. So I posted it to /fit/ and got a few replies, mostly in the range of "Even if you're an Olympic athlete training since childhood, you only MIGHT be able to accomplish this feat."

And here we go. More twisty-turns in the love polygon we have going.
>>
>>89396672
>Joe's do-list is a live-updated online feed

Truly the man is a paragon of the 21st century.
>>
>>89396672
Nice to see Raidah again after twelve thousand years.

And I've said it before, but I still can't get over how we're supposed to just accept Jacob as a cast member after not having had a strong focus on him in years, and whatever other times he was featured having been little more than to be ogled at by Sarah. Hell, I don't even know how we're supposed to accept Jacob and Joe as being friends when this is the most we've seen them together in a long time.

Hell, if I were a newer reader, my first question would be about who this new girl is.
>>
>>89396672
Does Jacob not know that he shouldn't talk about how "compelling" other girls are in front of his girlfriend?
>>
>>89396917
For a guy that just finished a speech about not liking being a sex object, he' doesn't really have a lot of other positive traits, like foresight.
>>
>>89396672
>How remiss.

I'm no English major, but that just seems like awkward speech. I'd say 'how remiss of me" even if I was even trying to sound smart using that word.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
>>
>>89396917
"Compelling" isn't used to describe how attracted to someone you are, though.
>>
>>89397019
I thought the exact same thing.
>>
>>89396672
In panel five we see Jacob scrunch his shoulders together in an attempt to understand how nice it must be to not have bodily proportions approaching that of a Warhammer 40k model. Also I think I figured out why Jacob's proportions are so noticeably off while Joe, who shares the same problem, doesn't have such issues; Jacob's head is enormous. Look at panel 3, his ears nearly line up with his armpits.

>>89396917
>>89396964
He does clarify that compelling refers to her punching a kidnapper, not her sweater puppies or birthing hips.
>>
>>89396672
Am I reading this right? Did Jacob just tell Joe that Joyce should totally be on his "do" list?

Also, Raidah is a cunt.
>>
>>89397262
Joe only likes women he has a chance with, but Jacob is trying to tell him there are non-sexual reasons for wanting to hang out with her.
>>
>>89396672

Aren't Joe and Joyce supposed to be friends? To the point she turns to him with actual problems and seeks advice? Why is he acting like this about her?
>>
>>89397262
>>89397340
I think it's more Joe trying to keep up appearances, we've been shown that they converse and keep in contact with each other before.
>>
>>89396190
Hah Joyce goes in for the steal.
>>
>>89397340
He was already texting with her as a friend, shown in a bunch of strips. Why is this supposed to be a revelation for him?
>>89397398
Exactly. It's weird. He's acting like they weren't already close non-sexually.
>>
All their religious debates end with argumentative Sex in which they continue to debate.
>>
>>89397398
Yes, but it's largely private moments where she turns to him and the two of them talk. Publicly, Joe's still very much Joe and he has his image he wants to maintain.

Image related, Carol and Joyce make similar teasing faces before they go on to fuck a man endlessly and have several children with him.

>>89396672
>She wears a wrist brace from punching out a *kidnapper*
Seems like a missed chance with Joe not responding that Joyce also punched him in the face... repeatedly. Maybe something about everything looking like a nail when all you have is a hammer.

>"Shudder!" onomatopoeia.
meh

>>89397398
Joe does not like encouraging non-sexual contact with women.

Oh, damn! That similarity is uncanny.

I think I'm missing something. I think the joke here is that Mrs. Mom is a staunch Christian and conservative?

>>89397800
Oh, hey, this is new. To me, at least.
According to http://www.dumbingofage.com/tag/kaitlin/ Kaitlin is the girl who Becky tried shagging up with.

I have a feeling she'll be making a visit to IU at some point in the future, at least if Willis is choosing to set up her character through Patreon bonus strips.
Actually, that could be a worthwhile Patreon donation incentive: A weekly series of strips following a character whose backstory or adventures would otherwise be ignored in the main DoA story.
>>
>>89397849
>I honestly don't get it.
This was probably setting the stage for that tedious story line where Becky was trying to see Dina's head without her hat on.
>>
>>89397800
She's the girl who had a physical relationship with Becky and then pinned it all on her when they got found out.

I guess this is her punishment? Having a huge crush on dirty blonde Robin and not being able to express it because she has to be closeted to not fuck up her life?

Or maybe it's just contrasting her being kinda miserable but safe with Becky's freedom?

Or maybe it's just Willis having more lesbian content because that sells?
>>
>>89397919
Jesus, how long has it been since that girl showed up in real time?
>>
>>89397840

It is, but it's monthly, and the majority of his patrons are fuckwits.

This month will be Alex, since that whole "the real Alex is trans" thing went down like the day before the poll was posted.

>>89397919
Willis seems to think that dorm room doors don't automatically lock.

>>89397961
Other than in flashbacks, she's only been in one strip, and that was back in 2012. Otherwise, she's been in bonus Patron strips.

So I'm perusing Willis' Twitter to figure out what order the porn pin-ups were posted, and I found this:

>hey guess who just learned he lost a file and has to trace a shitty smaller version, it me

So I guess that's a thing that happened.

I'm guessing this is a preview for tomorrow's strip, assuming Willis doesn't cut away for some inane reason.

Regardless, it's just another example of his failing to understand both hands and wrist-braces.

Jesus. So God only answers the prayers of out-of-the-closet lesbians, and only the closeted ones have to deal with actual problems instead of having the author gift-wrap everything for them? You're sending out mixed fucking messages, Willy.

Like I said, generally true. The wage gap exists, just not as most people think of when they hear "wage gap". We just need a more equitable distribution of jobs. Once there are more women in the higher paid positions, everything will be fine.

I'd rather be a gun-toting conservative that understands that jobs are distributed by merit rather than equity, than be the reverse.
>>
>>89405363
Uh huh. And all employers are driven solely by merit and have absolutely no biases towards hiring or not hiring certain people whatsoever.

What if bias is justified?
>>
>>89405347
>Daisy
>not an expy of JJ Jameson, only with hot ladies making out instead of spiderman

I never said that the jobs shouldn't be distributed on merit, its just that qualified women are commonly passed over for jobs in lieu of men. We just need to fix that issue, and everything will iron itself out. When all persons are invited to participate in society, it strengthens it.

I didn't realize that there were so many /pol/tards in here, even if DOA is a shitty comic.
>>
>>89405457
Is this going to turn into a 'Minority X is known for Y, so I shouldn't hire anyone who's in minority X' conversation? Because I doubt that'll be pleasant for either of us.
>>
>>89405530
>its just that qualified women are commonly passed over for jobs in lieu of men
Maybe because qualified women are prone to taking half a year off of maternity leave.
There isn't some magical solution that says "employers just need to be less sexist geez"
>>
>>89405531

I don't know enough about the entire details of such things to say I'm definitively right but my general belief is that, while equality is a fine thing as far as opportunity or justice goes, it's simply nonexistent as far as nature. Individuals aren't equal to other individuals and it seems reasonable to assume races aren't equal to other races. And no, I'm not thinking on terms of hierarchy or tiers of worth.

My prevailing example is, you'd get a Canis Familiaris to pull your sled, but will you choose a Lab or a Husky?
>>
>>89405618
But it literally is. You can't punish a woman by impeding her career if she wants to have a child. You have to be understanding of this fact, and *not be a sexist piece of shit*. That's all there is to it.
>>
>>89405836
Work doesn't just disappear when a woman wants to fuck off and have a baby. Whatever job it is they were doing very rarely is able to just be put on fucking hold.
>>
>>89405965
So bring on a temp worker, if it can't be shared out among the rest of the staff. It's not that hard. You can also have them handle some of the work remotely from home.
>>
>>89405836

That's naive as fuck, m8.

You think a woman in the position to hire or fire won't think of the same things? Weigh the pros and cons and choose based on that?

I'll tell you the fantasy world: the one where feelings reign over the simple logic of "What will benefit most and what won't".
>>
>>89406007
>go through the hiring process just to get a temp worker to replace someone for a few months
>or increase the workload on all your other employees
Yeah nah, fuck that. As someone who knows the cost of hiring and training someone, not a chance. Rather just stick with the person who won't disappear for months at a time.
>>
>>89405530
Willis is an amalgamation of a bunch of shitty liberal stereotypes, along with a few unpopular nerd stereotypes like 'cares more about toys than real people' and 'completely unaware of how stupid he looks'. That sort of thing attracts /pol/ like rotting carcasses draw vermin.

Just be glad that Willis hasn't done Carla strips lately.

>>89405690
I know you're trying to not be racist, but that's still pretty fucking racist.

Let's ignore the fact that comparing dog breeds (which are, effectively, the result of decades or centuries of genetic engineering by humans to emphasize certain traits) to naturally occurring human races is a shitty comparison. Human races have very few large-scale functional differences. At most, you have some races that have overall height differences and slightly different proportions which may cause some trouble if you want to go to the Olympics for a certain sport. That's literally it. The differences in physical strength are negligible and the differences in mental capacity (which is what matters in most jobs anyways) are nonexistent.
>>
>>89405965
>>89406024
>>89406063
So, the underlying message of your argument(s) is that if a woman can't prove herself to be so effective that her skill outweighs the possibility of having to give her 12 weeks of maternity leave at some point, then she's basically fucked and should just give up and find a guy to support her?
>>
>>89406138
No, I'm saying that there are reasons that one apparently equally skilled person might be chosen over another. It is a reason that has absolutely nothing do to with sexism, and everything to do with a company's bottom line.
There are plenty of professional women out there making their way in the corporate world. And I have all the respect in the world for them. But that doesn't change the facts.
>>
>>89406083

>I know you're trying to not be racist, but that's still pretty fucking racist.

And there's absolutely nothing worse on earth than racism, is there?

All I'm doing is trying to be realistic and raising what I think is a potentially valid point. I could be wrong and if I am than more power to whoever, but I don't agree with a culture where even considering a view that could be construed as "bigoted" or "racist" (regardless of whether it is or isn't) is grounds for ridicule or blacklisting. It's not productive.

Jesus Christ, you guys, I was just joking about how Willis didn't bother trying to be subtle about Joyce's mom's religious and political leanings.
>>
>>89406326
The idea you're working off of is "it seems reasonable to assume races aren't equal to other races". That idea has been the underlying basis of a staggeringly large amount of cruelty in human history, including a number of wide-scale high-impact incidents in the last century that we're still suffering the consequences of. It is an idea that has largely been founded on biased scientific evidence that has since been disproved, or misused religious ideas. If I'm saying that you're racist, then I and a good portion of the civilized world have seen your argument before, disagree with the basic premise behind it and that we have enough evidence to dismiss it out of hand.

And no, I didn't simply shut you down because you were being racist (and you fucking were). I could have very well just posted 'go back to /pol/', and I would have been justified in that, but I took the time to explain exactly why I disagree with your stance. And I'm more than willing to go into how most 'some races are better than other races' theory and research came from sources that have since been proven wrong.

Disagree with the point I made, if you must, but don't try to claim that I never made one.
>>
>>89406605
Political derails are a dime a dozen here. That's what happens when you get 'liberals that disagree with Willis's specific take on progressivism' and 'conservatives who disagree with Willis outright' in the same place.
>>
>>89406649
I'll give it that at least it's more nuanced than what goes on in /pol/.
>>
>>89397840

jesus christ becky's face in that first panel is so unsettling.
>>
>>89406792
Becky's face in any panel is unsettling. For some reason, Willis feels that it's okay if facial and cranial structures are ignored when it comes to Becky. He just HAS to make sure that one of her eyes is visible through her hair, no matter where exactly her hair is over her face.
>>
>>89406616

If you perceived any undue vitriol I apologize, I wasn't particularly aiming it at you.

I reiterate that I deny a simple-minded assertion that "unequal" can be boiled down to "better or worse overall", because that's also not how reality works and the lowminded summation of concepts in such a manner is the basis for much of the cruelty you mentioned.

Overall these theoretical differences between groups of people, as you said before, are comparatively minimal and, for the time being, almost irrelevant. But I still find it a point of interest.

>>
>>89406937
I'd just prefer that you hit the books and get your facts straight before bringing something like that up so casually.

Things need to be discussed, yes, no matter how controversial they are. But they are controversial for a reason; in this case, a lot of recent history AND recent politics are wrapped up in what you're saying. So maybe save the stuff that will inevitably get people angry and cause trouble for when it's necessary and not just as a casual thought experiment.

>>89409147
You can't assume every woman wants to have children. There are many, many of us that actively avoid having children. If you turn away women because there's a chance they might get pregnant, then you might as well turn away men in their 50s because they might get prostate cancer.

Just hire based on who's best for the job, because anyone can die or get signficant health problems that can cause them to stop working. At least women on maternity leave will eventually come back, and if they don't plan on doing so, you'd find out at the beginning of their maternity leave.

>>89396584
No, cooks don't get to wear the chef's hat. The hat isn't for any old person in the kitchen who cooks, it's a symbol of hierarchy, for people who actually went to chef school and earned the title, regardless of whether they're doing most of the cooking in the environment they're in or if they're working more in a supervising position. I doubt that Galasso has much right to wear it either, though, so whatever. I don't follow the comic very closely.

>>89414053
Despite how "progressive" Willis tries to be, he is nowhere near brave enough to (intentionally) include a person with any kind of mental deficiency. He refuses to say Dina has autism or anything.

There's no way he'd show brain damage or Down syndrome. He doesn't even have a character in a wheelchair, which is what you did in the 1990s when you wanted to have diversity. Extra points if the person in the wheelchair isn't white.
>>
>>89416892
That's probably less about cowardice and more about laziness. With disabled characters you have a bare minimum of research you have to put into writing about their disability. Willis doesn't research things that aren't transformers.
>>
>>89415758
It's funny, but in Shortpacked!, the men portrayed as the least desirable and unattractive by Willis were Faz and Ken. Both Asian men.

Most black men end up with black women anyway or at the very least, most of their marriages are black on black. Plus porn viewing habits in the south skew towards ebony. I fail to find a reason to be super upset save for dating site stats, but most other races are at a disadvantage there too.

>>89418700
Black women do get crapped on a lot and tend to be painted very negatively in the media (despite how many wonderful, kind, drama-free black women there actually are).

I would wager it probably unsettles them because it puts black women even lower on the list of dating preferences.
>>
>>89418839
>tend to be painted very negatively in the media

>>
>>89418868
I lean right, but I'd say Michelle Obama is the most prominent example of how the media can treat black women unfairly. She was Barack's arm-candy for the most part, and tried to make kids less fat. Despite being ineffective for the most part on both fronts, she was absolutely eviscerated by the far-right media time and time again as if she was someone who needed to be taken down a peg.
>>
>>89419250
That had more to do with her politics than race.
>>
>>89419250

Pretty much any time you see a black woman on TV, she falls into one or several of some stereotypes:

1. sassy black woman
2. loud drama queen
3. angry black woman
4. overweight black woman
5. has too high of standards
6. man-crazy Jezebel
7. daddy issues
8. poor/low class/welfare queen
9. independent woman
10. baby mama/unwed teen mom
11. Mammy/Aunt Jemima
12. gold-digger
13. uneducated sister
14. all black people are athletic
15. Black Barbie
16. ratchet/ghetto
17. emasculator
18. not feminine

You might notice that a lot of these clash with each other. When you have this many conflicting stereotypes, you just have to put them aside.

Here's a little more about it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereotypes_of_African_Americans#Modern_stereotypes
and
https://youtu.be/yQO7XoANYb8

The hypersexual black woman is especially prominent in hip-hop and rap music videos, as well as older shows like "The Foxy Brown Show." And it reaches even as far back as Saartjie "Sarah" Baartman and the origins of "Jungle Fever."

Even Oprah and Michelle Obama (>>89419250) have been the subject of "angry black woman" accusations. Serena and Venus Williams are often referred to as being mannish

TV shows like "The Basketball Wives," "The Bad Girls Club," "Love and Hip-Hop," and "The Real Housewives" portray black women as being horrible gold-diggers that will claw your eyes out.

Black women are consistently neglected in popular women's magazines, like "Elle," "Vogue," and "Cosmopolitan."

(To be continued...)
>>
>>89418868
>>89419995
Donna on "Parks and Recreation" is an overweight black woman who prioritizes sex and money. While she eventually gets more dimensions to her, she still perpetuates a lot of stereotypes.

Racism also prevents black entertainers (musicians, actors, etc.) from getting hired, so we get very few black entertainers. And people like Nicki Minaj and Beyonce are hyper-sexualized. Since we don't have a lot of visible black celebrities, people tend to take them as representations of all black people. It would be like if everyone assumed white people are smart because Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are white. (I know way more stupid white people than I know stupid black people.)

Remember all the times you've heard a black woman on TV threaten to pull someone's weave out (like on "America's Next Top Model" or even sitcoms) or "GURL, hold my earrings." See anything with Tyler Perry for stereotypes that involve black women being "ratchet" or "ghetto."

Whenever a black person is intelligent and articulate, they're accused of acting white and get called an "Oreo." This assumes that all black people are unintelligent.

I was a college professor for a bit, and my black students were the most interesting and tried the hardest. They actually gave a crap about their education. A lot of them came from bad situations, because education is not offered as much to areas that typically are full of black people.

While Oprah, Michelle Obama, and Tyra Banks are good black role models, black women are still often presented as all of these clashing stereotypes.

Honestly, just Google "negative stereotypes about black women," and you'll find way more than I can get into here.

Before anyone asks, I am a white woman.

I also had no idea how much I could say about this. I can write more about it, but this should be enough. I can do a linkdump if anyone wants to read more about it.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=examples+of+negative+stereotypes+of+black+women+in+the+media
>>
>>89419995
Man, you and I interpret those kinda numbers very fucking differently. If there's that much variation in black female characters, then surely they don't need to worry about being stereotyped. The media already has a lot of variety.
>>
>>89420061
I think the point is, you'd be hard pressed to name a few female black characters who don't fit SEVERAL of those stereotypes
>>
>>89420061
The important thing here is that almost all of them are presented in a very negative light. Nearly every portrayal of a black woman on TV is of a combination of these negative stereotypes. They often have more than one of these traits at a time.

You might see a low-income, sassy, angry, overweight, uneducated, gold-digging black woman who's loud with a lot of drama and is a man-crazy Jezebel with daddy issues and a baby at home without a baby daddy.

They usually stack the bad things on top of each other.

This person says it more succinctly:

Them being fucking huge for women might have something to do with that.
>reality shows
You know there's a white real housewives too? They film shitty people being shitty because it's entertaining. The whole list is no-win scenario given that a lot of this is broad interpretation and it isn't really focusing on specific characters. Even the Donna example is pretty weak. You're asking for characters with no flaws because even the smallest inkling of a character flaw would fall into this list regardless of how the character operates in their world. There's no room for anything here, if she isn't one thing on this list you'll just put her in another. Not masculine? put her in the barbie category. Not feminine? Put her in the masculine category. On welfareregardless of how the individual piece medium portrays it ? Welfare queen. Not on welfare? Independent womym!

I've looked up a few videos of black people getting into fights. Whenever you read the comments on those, it's never 'hey, look how stupid those people are'. It's 'hey, look at how stupid these niggers are', and then a bunch of stuff about how typical it is for them to be fighting.
>>
>>89421548

More typical, not sure if it's the average. But that really what stereotypes are, who does what more than another group. Doesn't inherently mean they all or do it or even most do it. Hypersexuality is basically written into every non-white female stereotype except some Asians. It's the usual fetishizing the other laced together with objectifying the female bit. Generally shitty all around.

Your list of stereotypes is kind of spread out. You can basically consolidate all of that into 'general black stereotypes' (13, 14, 16, 18, 7, 9), 'so sassy she snaps her fingers in a Z formation' (1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 17) and ratchet hoe (6, 7, 8, 13, 16)

There are actually a fair amount of black entertainers. Like, a shitton. That's not a wholly positive thing, mind you. They usually get typecast into stereotypical roles, or they get shoved to the sidelines in favor of white musicians (like in the early days of records, when white people would record their own, generally inferior, versions of race music). But entertainment is a common avenue, and a well-traveled one.

And, as I always say, it's not bad that there are characters that adhere to that stereotype. Donna's an okay character from what I heard, for example, and a lot of black people have used the 'entertainer' stereotype But when those stereotypes are so persistent that people start trying to shove real people into them, regardless of whether they want to be put into that category, then we got a problem.

>>

Stereotypes are basically the cheat sheets that our minds use when we meet a new person and we don't know anything about them. Instead of getting to know them and basing our observations on actual fact, we use those cheat sheets to try and get a read on a person before they can even open their mouth

Racial ones? Generally not accurate. A lot of people get their stereotypes from either TV (which has a very narrow view of anyone who's not a standard class white American), or the news (which generally publicizes the worst parts of any race because that's what sells) or the handful of minority members who actually live near them (which gives them the undue pressure of having to represent their entire fucking race to their neighbors). And in unfortunate cases, they get their stereotypes from shitty internet forums populated by people who know just as little as they do about how the other side works. So they're generally ineffective, and since so many people rely on them nonetheless, it means that every interaction a racial/ethnic minority has with someone who's not familiar with their culture has an added level of difficulty. Never mind that the majority of stereotypes about non-Anglo Saxon people are generally negative as fuck.

Just to pick one, did you know that black people only accounted for a tenth of the actual watermelon consumption in America back in the 1990s? It was pushed by a few slavery apologists back in the mid 1800s, and mentioned in a few minstrel songs, and America fucking ran with it until every person complaining about lazy niggers would mention watermelon. And for that matter, blacks were originally stereotyped as being physically inferior to whites from the 1850s to the early 1900s. Then, when Jesse Owens and Joe Louis proved them wrong, they changed their tune to 'blacks are incredibly powerful, and given that they are untamed savages, they present a danger to our white American way of life'

That's how stupid stereotypes are.
>>
>>89422363
I mean Sarah IS like human sandpaper, hell she'd be the first one to tell you. Her whole character is being abrasive and not building relationships with the community around her. Having someone not like that kinda makes sense.

But Radiah doesn't like Sarah because of a weed plotline from like, 6 years ago so that's all moot
>>

>>
>>89422363
Raidah's eyes are in her forehead in panel 3 (and again in 5)... why? Why can't eyes just be where they're supposed to be, you fuck?

As for her "no jealously" attitude, this seems kinda okay, but I'm sure she'll be singing a different tune once Joyce and Sarah are sharing her favourite popsicle.

>>89419250

Are you fucking kidding me? The media is overwhelmingly liberal. And they have bent over BACKWARDS to kiss her ass these past eight years. They downplay or refuse to make much if any point about her actions

Conservative media's comments about her have been strictly limited to her politics or her glaring behaviour. Like taking multiple expensive vacations every year or her $1000+ dresses or when she tries to bully children into eating the way she says when she is shown eating french fries, or when she makes comments about white people being the problem with America. These ARE legitimate issues with her. I know for a fact that Fox news or Rush Limbaugh have NEVER criticized her on a basis of her being black. Ever.

Moochelle, like her husband is a bully. And they LOVE to fling the term "racist" to bully anyone who criticizes or disagrees with them into submission
>>
>>89422655
The dresses, at the very least, aren't things that she actually profits from. Everything the First Lady wears goes into the...Presidential Archives? It goes into some sort of vault as soon as she's done wearing it; that's the general policy.

And bloody hell, you know that if she started wearing sweats, the media would make a circus out of that too.

The watermelon thing, and a lot of the general racist depictions of black people, originally were general denigration of southern and rural people post-Civil War. They transitioned to being exclusively about black people during the Great Migration. You can still see the overlap between derogatory stereotypes of black people and southerners. I'm not sure where you're getting the physical inferiority thing from, the "powerful savages out to destroy the white American way of life," mentality long predates the Civil War.

I think he might be subtly referencing his sex addiction (if all things are sexually equal with the Walkyverse, which Willis said they are).

>>
>>89423274
Ah, yeah, I mean you can trace the 'savage' stereotype back to the Birth of a Nation and even further.

I meant more that blacks were generally considered inferior to whites in every way, including physically. Their danger to white people was more out of numbers and inherent subhuman ferocity and the fact that they'd go after the white women rather than physical superiority. It was only after black athletes started gaining prominence that blacks started getting seen as fit, which was immediately bent into being a bad thing.

>>
>>89424410
that's an old scheme that people do to get free food out of the grocery store, at least where I'm from.

Usually it's a person who comes in saying they are ready to pick up a ludicrous amount of prepared food for a "wedding" or "party" and that they "set up the date months ago" and then they cry and try to make you prepare a shit ton of food for later that day.

I mean for fuck's sake, the first black president had to be a constitutional law professor with zero scandals and a perfect marriage with two perfect kids. His immediate successor is a lifelong grifter with multiple children by multiple marriages constantly surrounded by scandal. Hell, one of his wives posed naked--once in a softcore lesbian shoot, even--and he himself cameoed in a couple Playboy videos. If Barry O had done ANY of that, or if Michelle had appeared in a fucking BIKINI mag, he wouldn't have been elected dogcatcher.

If you don't see the race component there, I doubt you'll ever see race components anywhere.

I'm still not sure why Raidah's hate for Sarah is portrayed as some bad, unreasonable thing, given Sarah kinda got one of their friends kicked out of school for smoking a little too much green during one of the worst periods of her life.

Like with Mary's anger at Carla, reasonable negative behavior is portrayed as THE WORST THING EVER because it's directed at one of Willis' tormented main characters.

>if I remember correctly, wasn't the issue that the bakery posted the couple's private number on their website or something?

The couple filed a private complaint, the bakery retaliated by posting their information publicly. The punitively high damages set by the court were explicitly due to the bakery's inappropriate actions taken in the wake of the initial complaint (if I remember correctly all the couple wanted was a cake and an apology).

It wasn't out of line with precedent. That same state awarded punitive damages to a Christian woman who felt discriminated against by her non-Christian employer at a dentist's office a couple years prior.

Anyone up in arms about the Sweet Cakes case either doesn't know shit about it or does know shit about it but kind of doesn't like gay people.

Dana hanging out in the dorm and smoking weed all day was directly impacting Sarah's studies and, as Sarah pointed out, Raidah and co. didn't really bother to check and see if Dana was really doing okay or just keeping up appearances. Plus Dana didn't get kicked out of school, she withdrew and went home. It's a surprisingly complex situation for DoA.

From a purely capitalistic reasoning anyone who discriminates will always have a lower consumer/worker base than someone who doesn't. Ergo, not discriminating will allow you to keep costs lower and output/revenue higher than discriminating, thus giving you an economic advantage by not discriminating. However, since not everyone lives according to theoretical an-cap principles, the laws exist to promote fairness in business dealings.

Jackson got elected while being accused of marrying a married woman and . Grover Cleveland had a bastard child, had the mother committed and managed to get re-elected twice. And Jackson actually got a higher percentage of the vote than young Obama did. Never mind that Obama's Republican opponents are famous for appointing a complete idiot as their VP candidate and discounting 47% of the voting population (despite a good chunk of that population consistently voting Republican), respectively.

Obama had to be a near-perfect candidate to get into office: charismatic, accomplished and ethically sound. Otherwise, his campaign would have been bogged down by racially-biased accusations and investigations into his character and background, even more than they already were. It's not like Bob Dole or Kerry had to deal with people claiming that they're secretly Muslims and that their birth certificates were fake, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary (and as a reminder, Donald has been notoriously reticent about his religious beliefs and providing documentation).

Getting a doctorate means you have the title of doctor, not that you become some super respected man that everyone worships. Stephen Hawkins is not famous and admired because he has the title doctor, and neither is a cardiac surgeon.

Likewise, I doubt your neighborhood minister actually gets the fame and adoration you think he gets just for having the title of doctor.
>>

It's not that all ministers and sociologists and poli sci people actually get recognition for the title of doctor that annoys me. It wouldn't bother me if it was just a few letters on postage.

The people I've a problem with are the many people in academia and elsewhere that I've met, who take great pains to remind you that they're "doctors", and dismiss any discourse because they've got a doctorate. I have a hard time believing you've never run across someone like this.

>>
>>89442536

Favoring traditional marriage isn't a deviant sexual perversion. Huge difference.
>>
>>89443800
Probably the latter. Sarah already tried to help somebody and was ostracized for it; I doubt she'd do it again so soon.

Also, the password is, simply enough, "balancing".
>>
>>89443614
I guess you could excuse it because Dorothy is drunk, but this is one of those times when not having thought bubbles for inner monologues is weird. It's definitely a secretive thing that she shouldn't be talking to herself about in the hall.

I don't think Dorothy knows that AG talked to Joyce after the whiteboard stuff, but if I were AG I'd just tell Joyce myself. Joyce literally comissioned AG to keep looking for Ryan. Also, as much as her PTSD sucks, I still feel like Joyce really failed her community by not reporting Ryan, so I don't really care how she takes it.

Also, my first guess was "Balancing" and I nailed it. I feel dumb for missing "Storied" last time, but it's a shitty title for that strip anyway. I can't remember the others I liked, but I would've used "Whoops." It covers Jacob thinking he made a mistake, and also works for Raidah being overly shitty at the end as a boner.

>I don't really see it. Joyce would be too easily guilt-tripped.
Well, I didn't mean it in the sense that they'd both be fighting over him equally.

What I mean is after >>89396190 it seems like there should be some sort of discussion about Joyce stealing "Sarah's man" or maybe Sarah being depressed that Joyce connected with Jacob so much easier than she did or even just talking about how obviously Joyce is attracted to Jacob. Just some sort of discussion following what happened. And it seems weird to delay it after that strip, which seems like it would directly go into Sarah saying something like "Well, what the hell was that?"
>>
>>89444683
I just like the idea of Becky paying Mike to rape Rapin' Ryan. Billie would also work well in this case. Amazi-Girl can't rape Rapin' Ryan outside of porn fics, otherwise her raping Rapin' Ryan would validate his insults to her.
>>
>>89444945
I'd put Billie as being the one to pay Mike in any of these scenarios, really. Anybody but Joyce.

Because as of the Amazi-Girl/Sal plot point a few months ago, Rapin' Ryan's presence officially stopped being a Joyce-centric story and started being about Dorothy and/or Amazi-Girl.
>>
>>89445044
Having Becky do it would give her some much needed personality.

While it might change depending on how this Dorothy plot goes (unlikely since it seems to be about Dorothy and Billie) Rapin' Ryan is an Amazi-Girl plot with Dorothy as a supporting character.

How does no one there (besides Spencer) see that she's clearly saying she doesn't want to tell Joyce because she hates being responsible for Joyce's unhappiness?

Excellent dump, anon.

>Does anyone have an image gallery with the newer ones included?
If you or anyone reading has editing privileges of the gallery in your post, the newest bonus strips are at the beginning of this thread.
>Gay: Technically 5, but I think Ethan and Becky count for more
Ethan might count as a -1 gay at this point since he's done nothing gay other than blush for DoA's entire run.
Becky, however, probably counts as at least 5 gay people.
>>
>>89446037
Shit, when did we get the other pin ups?
>>
>>89446410
They just came in the last thread, which was a little short-lived. The one labeled as a Masterlist is the location of the newest ones.

>>89446303
Thanks! I unfortunately do not have editing privileges, but if someone here can see this and does, please do add the new ones from the top of the thread!

I'm inclined to agree about Ethan, but his entire character is built around his gayness, and a good portion of it is why Amber has become so unhinged. But yeah, he could do a lot better than blush and daydream.
>>
>>89443614
So, here we have Dorothy carrying a bunch of stuff in an uncomfortable way, Joyce shoving Becky into a conversation that had no relevance to her, Joyce doing an awkward conversation segue, Dorothy doing a stupid drunken soliloquy about how she'd be a terrible person for telling Joyce something that she needs to know, and Carla actually butting out of someone else's business for once.

When did Dorothy go get food? How did she acquire it while clearly still drunk? How do Joyce and Sarah and Carla not smell the alcohol if Dorothy is STILL tipsy/buzzed/whatever AFTER going to a food court or wherever and bringing food from the food place past the front desk all the way up to her floor?

Dorothy still being drunk right now means she was absolutely wasted and was in no way able to go get an entire meal and bring it that far without hurting herself or getting caught, because she's drinking underage and is being pretty obvious about it.

I call bull on all of this. Especially on Carla backing off.

>hates being responsible for Joyce's unhappiness?
Like, Joyce has said at least once that she just wants to forget about it and pretend it never happened. Even if telling Joyce is the morally right decision (that I'm hoping Dorothy will eventually end up at), she's still going to have a lot of stressing and psyching herself up to get to that point.

Yes, but if you want to do it because of discriminatory reasons, you need to find other reasons as a front.

Many workplaces--even in the South--have lengthy posters that explain that treating someone poorly because of their race, gender, etc., is against the law because it is discrimination.

It isn't, m8. Your struggle isn't against a "status quo", it's against reality, and while highly amusing, there's a point you've gotta accept facts.

Look, you can convince the world (or a tiny subset of it, anyway) that being gay and shit isn't "bad" or should be acceptable, but you've spent too much time with headcases on the internet and not enough with people if you believe it'll ever achieve normality.

>Homosexuality is normal.

A very small percentage of the world's population is gay. The definition of 'normal' is "conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected". Homosexuality is not normal. What you meant to say is that it is a thing that happens, and that most people don't really care that it happens so they ignore it. That does not mean 'normal'.
>>
>>89456421
>expected
So you don't expect that gay people will exist? Is that a surprise to you? Homosexuality is uncommon, but it occurs across most, if not all of mammalian species.

Seems like it fits a key component to the definition of "normal" to me.
>>
>>89456612
>Homosexuality is uncommon, but it occurs across most, if not all of mammalian species.
And birds. If you hate yourself, go look up vultures. I don't generally think gayness is gross, but vultures figured out how to gross me out.
>>
>>89456421
I think the problem is that the word "normal" is synonymous with "something that isn't wrong" these days.

This has the side effect of making a lot of conversations about human statistics sound uncomfortable when the poster and reader aren't on the same line of the use of the word.
>>
>>89456802
>gay vultures
Not seeing anything repulsive from Google. Just a story about a couple of ugly gay birds who sat on an abandoned egg.

Image search turned up pretty bland results as well. I was expecting some goatse, blue waffle, or lemon party levels of repulsion. What were you on about?
>>
>>89456612
I generally expect anyone I meet to be straight, yeah. Just like I expect everyone I meet online to be a dude.
It doesn't bother me if I'm ever wrong, but that's life.
>>
>>89450569
>>89450642
It's kind of makes it apparent that for some nerds, their only takeaway from being bullied in school was "Build your own faction where you start of in the alpha class"
>>
>>89456612
By your reasoning, just about everything is normal, then. If someone shot you in the chest tonight, that would be normal, since we have medical professionals that specialize in gunshot wounds because such wounds are expected to happen.

Don't get hung up on one word in a definition just to be pedantic. A deviance from the typical is abnormal.
>>
>>89456835
>This has the side effect of making a lot of conversations about human statistics sound uncomfortable when the poster and reader aren't on the same line of the use of the word

I agree. Just look at this.
http://www.debate.org/opinions/is-homosexuality-normal
It's just a bunch of folks completely taking past each other. If you can't agree on a definition, there's no way you can have a coherent debate about that word's use in a statement.
>>
>>89457075
I've no reason to expect a gunshot wound tonight, so it would be pretty abnormal to me to receive one. I don't carry a gun, I don't get in fights, and people carrying guns is fairly uncommon where I live.

The surgeon at the closest major city to me might think it's normal as hell, since that's part of what they deal with day in and day out.

Taking it back to the point. if I was talking to a bloke at the bar, and it came out of conversation that he was gay, I'd have expected that as a definite possibility beforehand. Normal as hell to me.

However, if I was in a strip club watching ladies dance, I might find it a bit less normal to find out the guy next to me that I was carrying on with was gay. Abnormal.

Bottom line is that it's about perspective, and we can go back and forth cherry-picking perspectives for days.

Galasso shamelessly flaunts his daughter's sexuality for profit. Dominates her every night as King. That's fucked.
>>
>>89456612

>So you don't expect that gay people will exist?

You're really leaping about here, m8. That's not what it means at all. It means that homosexuality and similar deviances are rare enough that, like >>89457032 said, you can generally expect them to be straight and be right most of the time.

Normality is subjective of course, but as far as the human race and general populace is concerned, homosexuality and co. are indeed abnormal.

>>
>>89457545
Things that you find unpleasant, annoying, or illogical can still be normal, m8
>>
>>89450601

Both Homosexuality and Pansexuality are abnormal. They are sexual perversions. Deviants keep TRYING to push them as normal to legitimize their sick sexual proclivities, rather than bother themselves with trying to fit in with societal norms. Oh no, everyone ELSE has to change for THEM.

Once they get their way completely they won't leave it at that. Oh no. No one is ever content to take just the inch given them.. Soon other sexual deviancy will be pushed like pedophilia and bestiality

>>
>>89458062

It doesn't matter if I find something unpleasant. If said thing is not usual or typical, it is not normal.

Normalizing homosexuality would mean making it the typical/usual sexuality of the human race. It's not.

The word you want is acceptance, not normalization. Why is that so hard to understand?
>>
>>89455462

Fucking someone with the exact same plumbing and crying when people won't accept them without question
>>
>>89458324
>t doesn't matter if I find something unpleasant. If said thing is not usual or typical, it is not normal.

The word you want is majority, not normality. Something can be a minority occurrence and still be normal. Why is that so hard to understand?

Unless you want to start debating whether or not minorities are normal? If you want to do that, I can tell you you'll not find much support with that argument here.
>>
>>89456612
>Homosexuality is uncommon, but it occurs across most, if not all of mammalian species

Extremely, EXTREMELY uncommon. like a one digit percentage.

The majority should NOT be expected to change for the extreme minority.

Obama let you have your way for far too long. And he didn't even allow it because he felt empathy for your plight. He did it to divide the country. Obama never really gave a shit about homos. They were just a means to an end for him.

Obama played you homos like a harp from Hell. And you fell for it hook line and sinker. If he felt it would suit his purposes, he wouldn't hesitate to throw you all under the bus
