Are they right, /co/? Is Marvel trapped in a constant cycle of event, relaunch, event, relaunch, etc. of their own making? Are they even willing to break out of it at this point?
>>
>>89383717
They just need to stop doing the line-wide events like CW2 and stick to the smaller franchise specific ones like Clone Conspiracy and IvX.

So no, probably not.
>>
>>89383717
Is "Bigly" an official word now?
>>
>>89383717
>Are they even willing to break out of it at this point?

Probably not. But on the other hand their sales have gotten worse compared to All-New All-Different, which was remarked as doing not as well as hoped for retailers earlier last year.
>>
>>89383717
Is the sky blue? They have been doing events non-stop and it's hurting them (along with the agenda driven writing and hires).
>>
>>89383717
Kind of year. Every time I think I might try and give Miles Morales another shot he get sucked into the next big crossover event and that derails any story he had going on.
>>
i don't see what breaking out of it is. people hate the relaunchs so you can't do a new wave of number 1s and no one will jump onto a book and try it out with a new creative team.
>>
>Ireland
What next /co/ will be posting shit about comic shops in Pakistan?
>>
>>89383717

hilariously this places the blame where it belongs on the buyers stupid habits.
>>
>>89384015
>It's just one store in Ireland!
>Bleeding Cool is only talking to six retailers!
>That one retailer just has DC bias!

Look, when one store is saying something is bad and other stores aren't, then you'd have something to your argument. When a bunch of stores are all saying the same thing then something's up. Same thing happened with DCYou.
>>
>>89383717
>CIVIL WAR II killed any momentum they had as a company
This, pretty much every ongoing that had a CWII tie-in was ruined, and the event itself was a complete shitshow.
>>
>>89384016
A big part of the reason for that is Marvel's fault though. They've thoroughly conditioned their readership to think that the big event is the only thing that matters. It's at the point that they basically hijack any and every book to feed into the event the moment it starts. The basic outlook now is that other books are just filler until the event, then they're used to flesh it out.
>>
>>89384084
The best tie ins were those like New Avengers that basically ignored Civil War 2 and continued with their own plots. Poor Kamala, sucked into event after event and getting her book derailed
>>
>>89383717
>Are they right, /co/? Is Marvel trapped in a constant cycle of event, relaunch, event, relaunch, etc. of their own making?

How long have you been reading Marvel comics? They have been trapped in cycles of shit events leading to shit events ever since the mid 00s.

It's why I quit reading capeshit, even when you have a great run, the editorial mandate will shoehorn in the current even to the story, sometimes so badly that it completely destroys the storyline. It's just not worth reading any of the ongoings, since you know that whatever continuity the run has, will inevitably get fucked over for sure.
>>
>>89383717
Why is Shalvey such a drone? Is he even Marvel exclusive?
>>
>>89384151
Shalvey is legit retarded.
>>
>Marvel currently has some of the best books it has published in years
No it doesn't. I can't even be bothered to read most of them anymore.
>>
>>89384221
It's funny, I was making a list for someone of all the current books I liked, and then I realized that it was less than 8 books.
>>
>>89383717
Marvel says it themselves they've moved to a "seasonal" approach when it comes to their book line.
>>
>>89384244
Yeah, the industry is in a really bad play e you'll struggle to find 10 legit great comics being published right now. None from marvel of course.
>>
>>89384151

I don't even read the damn things unless I have a personal vested interest in the characters. Still haven't read Age of Ultron, Original Sin, Infinity...

I read both volumes of Mighty Avengers, so no it's not the presence of black characters.
>>
>>89386489
>because you people say that about every goddamned thing people say

Because it's true. Anon literally just implied that anyone who doesn't like the books they like is a Trumptard. And yeah, it is why he won, via electoral college. The left started calling anyone who wasn't from New York or California dumbasses and racists for having grievances with Hillary. So obviously, they voted for the candidate who didn't actively go out of his way to shit on them.
>>

seems like Anon was saying "Trump's borderline devout followers used the term 'Bigly' so often that it almost became an officially recognized word"

and then you went off I guess because he used the word "Trumptards" instead of say "Trumpcucks" or "Trumpfags"

I passed on USAvengers after the first issue went full-on anti-borders. I thought "Well, I can still read Ultimates" but then the second issue had Blue Marvel make a snarky remark about how white people thought his father was stealing their job and then this in issue 3, so I'm out.

>>

I really hope we get a post-mortem on that one day, like whose idea was it to fridge Bruno and what their reaction was when they saw the huge sales drop and realized they had possibly irreversibly maimed their golden goose.
>>
>>89387208
I'd assume the best time to ask that would be a few months after the book gets cancelled/relaunched.

But I would assume Bendis had a hand in it, if only because Bendis. "So yeah, you have Captain Marvel, and now you have Ms. Marvel. So she should have a tie-in book. Don't ask me to help with tying it into the main event series, though."

How bad WAS the sales drop, anyways?
>>
>>89387293

Ms. Marvel went from solidly selling between 30k to 35k to barely hovering above cancellation numbers.
>>
>>89387398
Got the raw numbers?
Also, goddamn, that must have been one fuck of a tie-in if it killed the book that hard. I saw a few pages from the tie-in story; do you think it might have been the shift in tone that killed the sales, or would it have been the fact that it was a CW2 tie-in overall?
>>
>>89387398
Yikes. If they've kept Carol alive this long with how shitty her series is they should do the same for Kamala. After all Carol has never been anything above mediocre and has frequently been ducking terrible, but Kamala has at least been decent.

triggered implies trying to directly ruin something for other people that you aren't enjoying/buying to begin with, usually by trying to boycott it using social media by saying it is attacking a certain oppressed minority, quietly no longer buying a comic and mentioning/complaining about it on an anonymous message board is not being triggered
>>

Bit of both. It wasn't really well written and also ruined her relationship with one of her biggest supporting characters, who flat out left the comic

>Is Marvel trapped in a constant cycle of event, relaunch, event, relaunch
How is this even a question at this point? It's been like this for years, and one of the main reasons I'm progressively reading less and less Marvel.
>>
There was a period after Secret Invasion where they were trying to ease off on the big crossover events and do more of a "status quo" branding (Dark Reign = bad guy in charge, Heroic Age = it's OK to be nostalgic again).

They've claimed that this didn't work for them sales wise and after that they've doubled and tripled down on events.

I would like to believe that Civil War II was so obviously crass and stupid that the bad publicity it got them (even among readers/reviewers who used to fellate Marvel) might cause them to rethink, but probably they actually do need these constant events even though they know they're terrible.
>>
>>89392451
Probably but Cap-as-Hydra was not completely terrible as Civil War II and yet the sales on it are doing about as well as if they never did the stunt reveal. I just wonder how well Monsters Unleashed and Secret Empire will actually do; to read the BC bestseller chart comments and looking at the Comixology rankings, Monsters Unleashed is off to a rough start.
>>
>>89390080
I saw that too.
I can only assume a relaunch will save Ms. Marvel, but even then sales will drop still.
>>
>>89392451
>Heroic Age = it's OK to be nostalgic again

Heroic Age was a fucking lie, they put up some pretty covers & promo art trying to make us think that the good guys were back but it was just Bendis bullshit as usual.
>>
>>89392451
>They've claimed that this didn't work for them sales wise

I don't buy this because there were a lot of factors going on. The economy was taking a dive starting around early 2008 for starters. And Marvel had been gradually driving away the old audience with Bendis' Avengers, Civil War, OMD, and was starting to drive away their new audience with Ultimatum.

Civil War sold well in TPB form so arguably that was a worthwhile investment by their perspective. But I think it might've did more immediate harm at the time (if you remember after Civil War, Millar took on a bunch of projects, like four or five of them; the only ones that really sold well were Old Man Logan and Kick-Ass.)

And as >>89395850 pointed out, it was Bendis bullshit again after Heroic Age. And what was worse is that reading Post-Siege Bendis Avengers makes you think that he should've bailed after Siege and maybe his run would've slightly held up a bit better. Then again he was intent on doing Age of Ultron as his last Avengers project and that was terrible as fuck.

whats Marvel 1985

It was a story Millar wrote that took place in 1985 about the "real" world getting invaded by Marvel supervillains:

It ties into Millar's Fantastic Four and Old Man Logan, and also Kick-Ass (the implication is the "real" world in 1985 is Kick-Ass' world, which is also shared by Wanted, Unfunnies, Chosen, Nemesis, and Superior)

I'm pretty sure anon is intentionally or unintentionally trying to spin the whole "people of various different backgrounds talk about how awesome it is to be in America" character introductions as being anti-borders.
