Boba Fett has a cool design, but he is largely inconsequential to the plot beyond being Jabba's delivery boy. Now I'm not a fan of breaking down character roles in movies, but I dont get how people raise him into this weirdly fetishzised badass of a character, that while imposing wasn't all that hard to defeat in the end. It was very much a 'one and done' formula

What attracts people to these sorts of characters is their sparse appearance. This gives them mystery, which is appealing, and lets people speculate and come up with theories about them.

If the character starts having more appearances, or even joins the main cast, they lose that mystery appeal because the audience gets to know them. Getting to know them also means a lot of speculations and theories become false, which people hate. What they build up in their head is always more exciting then what they actually get.

It's sort of like how in Alien not seeing much of the alien is what made it scary, because it let people's imagination take over.

Lapis and to a lesser extent Peridot in SU are a prime example of this. People hate them now because they're actual characters instead of existing mostly in the fan's imagination.

Hmm I don't think it's just the lack of resolution. I never really expected them to have a funeral scene for her or something, since she was a side character from the get-go. It was also quickly addressed that the cops and her parents believe she ran away, and we see in the end that Nancy still wasn't over her death. From the main characters' POV, she's the only one that should mourn her death as the rest didn't know her that well.

She's actually the most well-developed character, in all honesty. An issue the show has is the Gems flip flop their personalities a lot outside of the basic perameters, but Peridot's change from villain to protag has been very consistent for the most part.

That wasn't even in the original movie. It was actually added in the special edition to give him SOMETHING to do in Jabba's palace because of how popular Boba Fett had gotten.

He's mostly popular because his action figure sold really well. Not only did it match Vader in terms of coolness (Luke/Han/Leia action figures are just dull humans), he came with a badass weapon in the form of a rocket launcher, had a jet pack, and he has a unique ship that's badass enough to keep up with the Millennium Falcon.

Barbara? I admit to being a Barbara fan and only later became aware that the sentiment was a popular one. Easy to see where it comes from, though.

For me, it was more or less a matter of fairness. She was the only kid showing even the least bit of responsibility and her reward was being eaten by a monster while the asshole(s) who just wanted to get into Nancy's pants and then treated her like shit get off scott free.

And while everyone is constantly going on about this other kid that's gone missing, nobody seems to give a shit about Barb or any of the other people that are missing.

And then they don't give us any kind of resolution. They just brush her off despite her being the best friend of one of the main characters who had more screen time (prior to her death) than the kid we spend the whole season trying to get back.

It's 80's monster movie 101 that you don't kill off the responsible, bookish, virginal, young woman while the annoying kid, asshole bully popular guy, and others all get redeeming moments/happy(ish) endings.
