Most German soldiers in WWII fought to protect their homeland and families.

The germans had a strict "no rape" policy.

The russians however, did not. When the Germans lost a battle, they were surrendering their wives and daughters to the Iron Curtain to be abused and murdered.

Mr. Krabs clearly lost his wife and took in pearl as an orphan. Whatever war he fought in, it was a homeland war.

A war that he never truly escaped. He likely uses money to compensate for his violent PTSD.

As you can see in the episode where he falls in love with Mrs. Puff, Mr. Krabs still can't talk to women properly. Likely as a side issue he has for essentially surrendering his late wife to the enemy he fought.
