Lucy's perspective was very clearly shown, but Mike's was more of a read-between-the-lines deal.

He was unable to see any of Lucy's attempts to mend things as sincere, just shallow and desperate. Like a junkie trying to get their fix. Her running to Paulo after being rejected also didn't help things either.

He also felt cornered by all the friends in the groups acting like MikexLucy was supposed to be the OTP and not taking his relationship with Sandy seriously. So he ended up feeling alienated resentful of Lucy's existence at that point.

tl;dr He was right to not lead Lucy on, but acted like a childish fuck about it.

It's around 10 years into the future. Mike is in a serious relationship with Sandy. Lucy, who has moved out of home, gets a sudden visit one day from an upset Mike, who had a pretty serious fight with Sandy; they haven't talked in days. They have a heart-to-heart about their insecurities and eventually escalate into a passionate one-night-stand. Lucy is under the impression that this time it might be for keeps.

But lo and behold, next morning Mike gets a call from Sandy to meet up for coffee or something, and he basically runs back to her, completely forgetting Lucy, who is naturally depressed and disappointed at this turn of events, and that Mike hasn't changed at all. Turns out Sandy's pregnant and that makes them both happy enough that they don't want to fight anymore. Lucy finds out from Mike and gets told that that one night meant nothing, and she basically pretends she's not incredibly upset.

Life goes on and then bam, Lucy finds out she's pregnant. Dang. She doesn't tell Mike, and decides to go ahead and carry the child by herself, with some help from her mother.

YEARS LATER: Mike and Sandy's girl and Mike and Lucy's girl meet in a playground or something and become friends. Mike and Sandy come by to pick their kid up, which Lucy sees from a distance. She picks up her own kid and cries over how things ultimately turned out. It more or less ends in that sad note, but at least Lucy has her kid who loves her unconditionally.

This fits well with the Sandy character analysis that I think was in the last thread; she uses Mike as a coping mechanism and so when turns up pregnant and could really use someone by her side she immediately recalls him. Years later Mike is clearly in charge of raising their daughter and Sandy sees fit to ignore both of them.

Well, let's be honest, it's a hard choice to make. Kids that age have a short attention span, they'll move on pretty quick.

The alternative being to bring the kid back to the park and have them bond even more. Risking Mike putting 2 & 2 together and finding out he has an illegitimate kid running around because of a one-night stand.

Problem is that door was already opened and characters established, so they're in there like a cancer at this point.
