Makes me wonder, with Haggar being Altean (likely using the camouflage biology to make herself look Galra) and all the Galra we saw were so far all male, yet it's implied that Keith's mom is a Galra.

It's funny to think about. The Lions can materialize matter to generate the bulk of their weaponry, so I like to think Shiro was just dematerialized into Black Lion. I found nothing wrong making Allura racist. She let her emotions get ahead of her and made generalizations which hurt Keith, who is also very lost and confused.

Allura learns that she did wrong and sincerely apologized to Keith.

Making Allura accepting and peachy makes her seem like the Perfect Prim Princess and that kills a character's credibility as a real person.

Does anyone else think that while the creators are trying to ape Gurren Lagann with this show (ie Human underdogs rebelling against 'The Man' represented by advanced alien race, princess with magic powers, hot blood piloting, the black and white scenes, Kamina glasses in the mall ep etc) but they don't understand what made Gurren Lagann great?

Because in GL the stakes keep getting higher with every episode as the heroes keep facing bigger odds whereas in Voltron S2 the plot is moving at a snails pace and there is quite a few filler episodes.

So what do you guys think is going to happen in S3?

We saw Keith being groomed by and bonding with Shiro a lot in this season, and the recovery of Shiro's Bayard and his subsequent disappearance are obviously supposed to pave the way for Keith to lead the team.

What do you think this will entail? Will Keith lead the team through the Red Lion or pilot the Black one? The Red one came to Keith's aid on its own accord no fewer than three times and Shiro bonding with the Black Lion was also a major milestone, does it make sense for him to switch lions? If so, which lion will Allura pilot? We finally saw her fight, so it wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to imagine her using a bayard to conjure a big staff for herself and/or something like a Polearm or the Titanic Trident for Voltron.

It would make sense for her to lead in the Black Lion if they weren't telling us the whole season that Keith was destined to lead. It would be interesting if Allura's Galran hate for Keith changed Voltron's dynamic, but that was already resolved.

I don't think leading the team is necessarily synonymous with piloting Shiro's Lion and using Shiro's bayard. But it could be. Keith seems to be able to communicate with multiple lions and shares some bond with the Lions in general.

I hope Keith leads in Red. That would be interesting, separating the ironclad notion of the head from leadership.

If Keith takes Black I believe Allura will take Red. If Keith stays Red I believe Allura will try her hand at Black. She;s always been sorta co leader with Shiro anyway. They've vetoed the other more than once.

I'm glad they wrapped up Allura's Galra racism trauma in one season. Any longer would have been frustrating and annoying to me.

You never know how much the writers have to cave to executive demands, though. Maybe the pacing is a result of meddling from higher up because they're not used to the idea of a cartoon without tons of pointless fluff.

I'm not sure how necessary that is, though. Japanese kids cartoons only seem to do that when they run out of source material or are trying not to catch up to it too quickly, and I don't even know how much kids really like filler. Yes, I think my problem is that I just didn't find the non-plot centric episodes in season two very entertaining (even though I liked them in the first season). The mall one was the only one I really liked, and that's partially because Hunk's food obsession at least made him do something kind of cool instead of being joke fodder randomly thrown in.

Allura might reveal that she has feeling for Shiro, if they are going that route, which might make her sad or determined to help Keith find him. Alternatively she might get ptsd flashbacks of losing the other paladins and start getting super protective of people.

Pidge will probably go into hermit mode because Shiro vanishing again is like losing her family all over again, and also makes her worry she won't ever get her father or brother back again.

Lance will play it off like he is cool, but then break down.

Hunk will be like he always is, the solid backbone of Voltron and say something meaningful like "Shiro wouldn't want us to turn tail or break up because he died. He would want us to keep fighting together like we did when he was with us." Then he will flip out and ruin the moment because he saw a space spider, but the impact will still be there for the rest of them.

Coran will keep trying to keep people's spirits up while being respectful of Shiro. He may or may not drop some feels when he talks about how he lost everyone and everything including a potential mate when Zarkon destroyed everything.

This is kinda accurate. I hope Shiro is alive because I like Voltron the way it is, and the new setup with the lions having their own consciousness means that the idea of playing musical lions is kinda upsetting. Also I don't like the message that it sends when the red lion became best girl this season protecting Keith and then suddenly he goes black lion.

That said I really am tired of each season ending with "Do you think we killed him THIS TIME?!?!?" Please just stop it. Sven died because Keith was always supposed to be the black lion pilot, and it didn't matter because the lions were just machines and the pilot was all that mattered. New Voltron throws all that out of the window.

How the hell are the Paladins and even Allura/Coran, separated by thousands of years, able to communicate with the other aliens? Are they talking different languages, are all the characters talking in some universal standard language, or is it some futuristic translation device?

Thing is that Alteans can change themselves at will, and Galra have proven to be a kind of chameleon race that seems to take attributes from other races it comes in contact with.

We honestly don't know if Galra is an actual race or if it is like the Roman Empire in that it claims other races and planets and now those people are ALSO Galra. For all we know the Galra empire just shits on a planet non-stop for a few years and then when all the weak people have been weeded out they let the survivors become full citizens of the Galra empire.

Maybe by being imbued with so much quintessence like the Altean nobility and paladins are, they are talking to people on a soul level or some crap. Maybe the real reason Galra tech only seems to react to Galra is because the recording software only hears a bunch of primitive grunts when the humans try to use it. Pidge did have to learn Galra and Altean programing languages and even tried to learn Altean this season.

Up until Keith and Shiro brought along some good Galrans and their secret club, most of her memories were of Zarkon militarizing his race, killing and enslaving everybody and for the past two seasons, her experiences with the present day Galra had her see them either as evil space military officers enslaving people or be arguably sentient/real people given the shitload of robots they have on hand.

She changed her tune and is trying to correct her flaws pretty readily's all I'm saying.

I don't know how they're going to have Keith transfer to the Black Lion when he really gets well with the Red One and has already bonded with it. But if he does inherit the Black Lion, who will pilot the Red One? Are the writers going to introduced a new character to replace Shiro? Even if they do find a replacement, is it some kind of hierarchy between the Lions, where the leader has to pilot the Black Lion, making the Black One the top of the pride?
