Something interesting. Rex says during the episode The Last Battle that he never counted the deaths of droids, but his helmet is covered in tally marks. So what WAS he counting? Individual victories? Every time Anakin crashed his ship into a CIS cruiser to break a siege? Dead brothers?

From what we've seen in canon Darth Vader's armor harkens back to the Sith Lords of ancient times. Sidious is a HUGE fan of Darth Bane and his Rule of Two so no real shocker. Generations of jetpacking into war have left them genetically predisposed to flat asses so they don't ignite their own buns. It's telling, at least I think, that mostly it's because we've seen Mandalorians acting as military units. Death Watch and The Protectors were both military groups who drew from multiple clans and houses for their membership. Their armor was a uniform, and thus a uniform. Of course Pre still got his own unique getup but the boss can do that. The new Super Commandos are the same way. Uniform trooeprs but Gar naturally has his own style.

It's also interesting how the apparent reason behind Bo-Katan having a different armor wasn't just because she was female, she leads a sub-group called the Nite Owls. Sabine ends up getting at least her helmet from them.

We don't yet know about the modern state of affairs on Mandalore but it's interesting that we see a large number of different armors in the mid-season trailer. Are the clans breaking out their old armors again? Flashing their colors? Guess we'll find out.

Star Wars has several races that change themes from year to year to test pilots. The Han Solo comic had the Dragon Void Run, which sadly probably is no longer a thing unless the sponsors continued it while changing the final destination given the magic gateway thingie probably no longer works.

The Insider short story Scorched has Greel, Leia's assistant from Bloodline, racing in The Gauntlet, a race that also changed each year. Pilots who do well there are often recruited for the even bigger Five Sabers. Interesting thing about the Gauntlet is one of the major sponsors is actually Han Solo.

Funny thing about post Endor canon. Han Solo probably became as well known, at least among pilots, for his racing than his time in the Alliance. Then JJ just has him become a two-bit smuggler. Doesn't really seem fair.

I found this interesting. In the episode Imperial Supercommandos when Fenn Rau explains why he came back after earlier ditching them he talks about Sabine risking her life for "her people", even if they weren't Mandalorian. That proved to him she hadn't forgotten the ways of the Mandalorians.

I'm sure Rau is talking about general Mando honor, but it's nice to see a Mando warrior extending that to outsiders. Honor was big to Pre Vizsla, after all it got him killed, but he saw no reason to honor any agreements with outsiders. Sure he accepted Maul's challenge, and Maul was the outsider he had betrayed, but I see that as because Maul called him out in front of his own troops. If he refused the challenge he'd look weak. Once he accepted it he was bound to the rules.

Still it's interesting to think that he was also referring to protecting others, even if they weren't Mandalorian. I wonder if perhaps an altruistic past existed for Mandalore in the past where they actually defended others. Maybe the Protectors were never just concerned with only protecting Mandalorian territory. Could they have once stood for something nobler? Could the Mandalorians not just be space mongols invading worlds for riches and territory but could they have actually been a bit more like the Jedi? Strange to think about.

This is always a theme with the warrior races. The good guys in them have a concept of honor that applies to all beings, even those they view as specifically weak or inferior and chafe at those with superior might lording running rough shot over weaker individuals.

I don't think it points specifically to Mandolorians once being all that different, as much as it points to Madolorians have varying shades of being total dicks. There are those that can recognize a code of honor that requires expanding it to outsiders and those that don't.

You know, at the time I figured he looked basically like a normal guy, having to be on the down-low and all, and was human because of the whole EU "Palpatine hated aliens" thing and I could never envision him having tolerated being an apprentice to a non-human. I hate to say this, but I feel that The Force Awakens was a necessary evil. I don't like how it turned out, but Lucasfilm/Disney really needed to win back the normie audience, and the best way to do that in their eyes was to echo the original trilogy and ignore the prequels, and it worked.
