Astro is kinda like Sonic or Mickey to me : Every time you add something to his design it just feels unnessecary.
So I get why they wanted to change his design, to refresh it and make it feel like they actually worked on a new version and all...but it's still useless.

tezuka was a fan of disney and specially of scrooge Mcduck, he first started making little comics about him and then thought it was a good idea to make his own characters and comics, and thus manga as we know it today was born. literally scrooge Mcduck is the reason manga exist.
