Something that isn't Marvel or DC, something you enjoyed regardless

Unfortunately I am a noob at comics, so Pic related, Hellboy, The Squidder, and Witch Doctor, are the only ones I know of.
I also remember one that has been one where some hulk-like ancient viking-man battled demons, but can't remember the name.
>>
I like diary comics like Eye of the Majestic Creature and Drinking at the Movies

any suggestions for me?

How about some european stuff.

Valerian.
Ignore the upcoming movie.
Valerian is a long running, very infleuntial Sci-Fi comic series.
I especially reccomend the two volume storyline that is published in issues 9+10.
Almost the whole series is available in english, from Cinebook, a UK comics publisher.
>>
The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec.
Ignore the recent movie.
It's a Mystery Comic series set in the Paris of the early 20ths century.
The series is full of Lovecraftian Horror, currently two english volumes available from Fantagraphics.
>>
My pull list for non-cape is-
Gold Digger
18 Days
Afterlife With Archie
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Les Nombrils

And for finished stuff-
Big Man Plans
Godzilla in Hell
Klaus
and I suppose Pregnant Bitches of War is never getting continued at this point.

Requiem - Vampire Knight.
It's Vampires, and not the romantic teenage shit of today. It's dark and brutal, it has awesome art by Olivier Ledroit, and it's written by Pat Mils.
Currently being published in the UK by Panini Comics.
I'd rather recomend another, even more awesome series by Ledroit, but "The Chronicles of the Dark Moon" isn't available in english.

It's USA stuff for a change.

Stray Bullets
is a thriller/drama series by David Lapham.
The series is complete since about 10 years ago and all the volumes are available as paperbacks from Image. A good introduction to teh series is the recently released stand alone "spinoff": Stray Bullets - Killers.

Domu - A Child's Dream
Is a Manga oneshot by Katsuhiro Otomo of "Akira" fame.
Domu is a supernatural crime thriller and Otomo's most accessible and probably most coherent and elaborated work.
English version tradepaperback available from Dark Horse.

Dark horse is about to release
The Manara Library
with the first volume being published in March:
Indian Summer
contains some of Milo Manaras better works.
His drawing style is great, especially his Women, always look good.
His stories are often not much different from crappy softcore porn though.
Indian summer is compilation of western stories.
"The Paper Man" is a nice little tale about a cowboy, his way back home and an indian girl without underwear. "Indian Summer" is an adventure with lots of action and a little sex.
>>
How about some slice of life like Lou! or The Bellybuttons. Both have regular storytimes here, so you can probably find them with a quick archive search.

>>89332109
His choices of casting for Valerian are awful.
We got mr. twink and a bitchy blonde instead of a DILF and fiery redhead.
And it seems it will follow the hollywood blockbuster mold to a T, with a shitty "he's a perv and she's serious, will they fuck at the end?" subplot, instead of having one of the best established couples of comics on screen with a dynamic grounded on relationship with autority.
So, until proven innocent, FUCK BESSON.
>>
I like the Mars Attacks comics
>>
The marquis of lost souls is pretty good, most of it is in English.

When "Valerian" is one of the great Sci-Fi comics
The Incal
is THE Sci-Fi Comic.
Moebius became a comic enthusiast's household name with this work, and for Jodorowski it was the rebirth as a comic author after the fiasco that was his Dune movie project.
Avoid the recolored version like the plague. The english hardcover album by Humanoids uses the original colors and is great in the overall quality.

Bone
The Witch Doctor
Perkeros/Sing No Evil
Sandman
Isaac the Pirate
Twilight Companions (nothing to do with Twilight)
Borgia by Manara
Orc Stain
Pinocchio by Winshluss
Judge Dredd
Halo Jones

Had to clear out a lot from my list since quite a number of them were mentioned already (like Valerian). Capeshit is a relatively small market when you get down to reading european comics. Japan might be the number 1 comic-crazy country but France and Belgium come a very close 2nd.

Why the fuck does Ellis only ever do one arc of a solid idea with lots of potential. Ignition City was great but also Fell needed at least 20 more issues and Desolation Jones got cut off in the middle of a second arc. what gives?
>>
OP, you're thinking of Head Lobber! Go read it now!

Most of my recs(Bone, Invisibles, etc) have already been mentioned, but here's a few. All of these have been storytimed on /co/ btw. There are some fucking awesome people here!

Northlanders(particularily Plague Widow)
7 to Eternity
Scalped
Rumble
Global Frequency
Clean Room
East of West
Harrow County
Hellraiser
XO Manowar
Witcher (both old and new)
Flex Mentallo
