Was there? I don't really recall that, there were the usual lunatics who were like "bro this is gonna change everything then the show will spend a whole season of Finn fighting in the post apocalypse of the comet crashing in Ooo and it'll be so sick dude just trust me" but there were only as many of those people as there were people who were hoping Preboot/Reboot would be a literal reboot of the show.

As I understand it Martin got whisked away to a different plane of existence and he's still there. Not a god just a different being. He could totally still come back if the show feels like it.
The purple thing was a Catalyst Comet or whatever and its purpose seemed to be to show up and ask people if they want to move on, or some shit like that. I still don't really get what its deal totally was but that's the main point of it.

Pen alone never made the best content as far as I can tell. His parts of episodes can be charming but they're kinda too weird, and not funny. He needed help from other top guys, like Adam Muto who worked on Dad's Dungeon too.

Muto was the best storyboarder ever, too bad he got promoted to top dog because he's pretty shitty at that, comparatively.

Pen still did some great stuff back in the day. Worked on a good bunch of super early season 1 episodes I believe, and did stuff like storyboard Rainy Day Daydream all by himself which just oozes charm from every orifice.

He does enjoy him some weird shit, like he was on the first James Baxter Episode and really liked David Ferguson's work enough to give him a guest animated episode, and I do think those aspects just aren't that good. I bet that's the reason Xayaphone stuck around all this time, Pen likes his weird shit and finds it funny.

Adam was based as a storyboarder but I don't think he's even bad as the showrunner. It's just in a show like AT the showrunner doesn't really dictate all that much apparently. He's probably just as good at it as Pen used to be.

But with a show like this you can overlook some of the stupid stuff occasionally. I always kind of suspected they were making things up as they went along, but I also thought they had some hidden explanations for things they'd reveal eventually.

The whole Orgalorg deal was them tipping their hand to the reality that they'd run out of ideas and were going to keep going with unlikely ass-pulls. That was it. Everything they'd planned ahead for had been shown to us, because what they'd just revealed was a little too dumb to be anything other than the last card up their sleeve.

That was shown to be 100% true with Jake's kids, which will always be embarrassing. Such a waste and they keep showing them off to act like "see you guys, this is what we had in mind all along, we weren't humongous cowards who dropped Jake's children like a bad habit, they were always meant to be mostly boring side character." Man Jake's kids are awful.

Even with that being said though, still love AT. I find it goddamn unbelievable that it can do so many things so hilariously badly but still be good enough to keep me invested and interested after all these years. There's something about it man.

I will be pretty annoyed if Islands is anything less than spectacular though.
