cmon back in guys, we were in mid conversation when the last thread fell off page 10
>>
>>89263379
Im drawing my comic rigth now in a stream. I dont if is too whorish to invite /hyw/
>>
>how's your webcomic

Quite excellent, thank you. Getting new followers by the buttload, fanart. Attention. People storytiming it. Grateful PMs from happy readers.

I think I've finally made it.
>>
>>89263502
sure why not. just keep in mind that link's gonna be up for a day and you're probably going to stream for, what, an hour?
>>
>>89263550
that's a good feeling, man.
>Grateful PMs
people get grateful about a comic? Okay. I'll know I made it when I get fans asking me shit about the setting
>>
>>89263562
Idk Im going all the time I can, Im not going to anything else today.

>>
>>89263550

>>
>>89263586
>asking me shit about the setting

Well that's a weird metric for success.
>>
>>89263627
Oh I don't post it here. This place is terrible.
>>
>>89263663
Shrug. I take being a fan seriously, or at least I analyze a lot what I do as a fan. I want my fans to do the same. That's one of the kind of things I wish I could do if I could communicate with creators whose products I enjoy. I rarely think of thanking them.
>>
Still having trouble with promotion. Nobody really knows the comic exists even though it has over 100 pages and has been running for more than a year. But I don't like shilling and I don't like trying to sell it on the strength of identity politics. It makes me feel all oogy.

We're going to print up some hard copies of the first four chapters soon though. Gonna sell it at cons.

And it does have some fans. We've even gotten fan art. One guy even wrote a piece of music for us.

It's currently on hiatus but it returns on February 6th.

All in all, I guess we're doing fine. I just wish we were doing better. But it's probably better to get noticed slowly over time than to be huge now and disappoint people because we can't live up to their expectations.
>>
>>89263550
>still here looking for attention
No you haven't. Just because a few autists link it doesn't mean you've "made it".

I notice that readership is up a bit, and the number's been consistent for a few days.

Gonna work on thumbnails for the next chapter this weekend. This chapter is all talking, so I gotta make sure it's visually interesting,

Good. have you thought of buying some ads? Another good thing is to do a quality guest comic for a high-profile comic that gets a lot of attention.

>tfw month after month you watch as new up and coming youngsters get further and further ahead while you remain stuck in the same rut crippled by a mix of insecurities, rationalizations, and procrastination
>>
>>89263854
These remade pages are kind of interesting for comparison. You're framing scenes a lot better than you used to. There's depth now. If you can ever get the hang of straight lines so environments don't look like they're made of flimsy pipe cleaners, your backgrounds might get up to the level of the rest.
>>
>>89263893
The main artist is a fellow /co/mrade and he's almost always busy with other work. So we've never had the opportunity to make a guest comic for a high-profile comic. We also never seem to know when those opportunities come up until it's too late.

As for buying ads, we're part of publishing collective and we don't know if we're actually allowed to buy ads independently of them. We mostly just stay out of editorial's way as long as they decide to keep funding the comic.
>>
>>89264077
well ask this collective how to promote the comic then
>>
>>89264120
I have. Frequently. They won't even answer my emails. And talking to them directly always results in them either not replying at all or them saying the comic isn't far enough along yet or that they're planning to push it in some indeterminate future.
>>
>>89264262
sorry to hear that. You know what I'm going to say now, right?
>>
>>89264537
Actually, I don't!
>>
Been trying to get more people to read it. I don't really have a site for it as I don't have enough content to justify it and am not producing things regularly enough to keep it regularly updated so I've just been sharing what I produce on social media sites but I feel like I'm not getting much of a response back. Any ideas on how to get my stuff out to a wider audience?
>>
>>89264665
like, if they're not helping you, what good are they? either ditch them or stop worrying about whether you're "allowed" to buy ads.
>>
>>89264734
get a website, dude. you don't have to get your own domain name yet if you don't have enough content to justify that, but a website is a bare minimum.
>>
>>89264802
They are bankrolling the comic. Without that funding I wouldn't personally have enough money to finance regular updates. So that's why I don't ditch them. That and I'd then have to build brand new site to host it. And it's got a nontraditional format that wouldn't be compatible with Tapastic. Though maybe Tumblr could work.
>>
>>89265042
well then it sounds like you're kinda fine, you're being supported.. I'd rather have that than successful promotion
>>
>>89265305
I just hope they don't cut us for not bringing in enough readers. Though maybe we do get enough to stay above cancellation. The numbers required have never been clearly stated. But I know others have been cancelled in the past.

Anyway you're right. We're fine. I just wish more people knew we were even doing the comic. Most of our peers are super popular so I feel like we don't quite measure up.
>>
>>89265613

I've finally decided to just go with my pencil-like lineart idea instead of going through the painful process of trying to learn how to ink properly.

I've had an idea kicking around for a comic about a hero called Paladin, let me lay it out for you:

>Traditional fantasy fighting demons and undead and shit, MC is basically a space marine - reckless knight obsessed with JUSTICE and purging the heresy from his land.
>First major antagonist idea I had would be a Headless Horseman-type enigmatic villain who is immune to Paladin's main evil-vanquishing ability and the arc would center around a big greyshades morality conundrum involving Paladin's goddess.
>Other antagonistic forces might include a subfaction of Paladin's order led by a fanatical zealot whose goals ultimately align with Paladin's own but his methods are far crueler; a lich who, through his own twisted ideals, wants to unite all people in harmonious undeath; and a demon commander who wishes to conquer all worlds as a giant "fuck you" to to the goddess.
>Allied forces could include Paladin's order, the sister order of Battle Clerics, a clan of barbarians inspired by Paladin's prowess in battle after a minor conflict between the two forces, and a "redeemed" demon whose true allegiance still remains a mystery.

What do you guys think? Something you'd be interested in? Something that already exists?
>>
>>89277324
Everything you said is basically flavor details and plot points. The success or failure of your comic is completely independent of things like "my antagonist is immune to their powers/is a friend who betrayed them!" You need to understand the goals, scale, and structure of your comic first.
>>
>>89272727

>>
>>89278317
For layouts and composition, yeah, but they clearly spent all their time rendering instead of setting down the groundwork.
>>
>>89272727
What I find that helps is do an underline drawing that's quick and sketchy to help be more confident in what composition I want to have. After that's done, then polish it with inks.

I see plenty of people just try and perform a polished drawing from scratch but that would take much more time than expected. It's not the same as redrawing it though.

I would suggest spending as much as two hours just on getting layouts right if you're having any trouble getting perspective and panel flow on your first try. Without a strong layout, the effort put into the page only goes so far.

Got my tablet replaced so I'm back at it.

In a previous thread I mentioned that I was going to try making 3D models of environments, ships and props to draw over to maintain consistent shapes and proportions from different angles. Here's the first product of this. I really don't think it looks out of place among my other art when paired next to a character I've drawn for the same faction.
>>
>>89283065
That's nice dude, definitely fits right in with your style - what does the model look like? Is it simplistic and you just paint over?

I'm sure everyone will hate it now that I'm about to highlight how easy it was.

But what I did was took the initial sketches I made a long time ago and literally just made a model with the basic proportions in the game "spore". From there I traced the basic shapes but included the details of the original design.

Someone can claim I'm a hack for tracing from spore but it's still my own design and I genuinely don't think anyone would of noticed without me pointing it out. Pic related is the three steps.

>>89283892
Thanks! And you're exactly right, I tried to make it blend in as much as I could by straying from the model whenever possible while still making it feel solid and consistent.

Yeah I'm not using it for characters or anything, just to quickly make sets and vehicles without going through hours of planning and sketches which I really can't afford for this project. Here's another example of a laboratory interior I'm planning with the aid of spore. There's vehicle and building creators so it's actually quite useful. I'm just surprised I've never heard of anyone else trying it before.

struggling with an "almost" rape scene, in the sense that a rape would have happened had one character not intervened. I do question whether to put it in or not, since it could be construed as using a rape to advance a plot.

Basically, Girl is a student, as is her BFF, they're both pretty smart but Girl has been raising up in the rank lately. (the school ranks their standardized tests, and BFF has been #1 for a while) BFF secretly is the illegitimate daughter of the guy who more or less owns the city. After her half-brother brings shame on the family, daddy says he'll make her a legitimate daughter and heir if she gets the highest score on the final test.

BFF becomes unhinged and decides to set up Girl to be raped by a bunch of the school's degenerates so that she'll be unable to focus on the test. Guy catches wind of this plot and threatens to expose BFF if she even thinks about going through with the plan, BFF says it doesn't matter because she's going to watch it happen in person where they're talking, and Guy threatens to beat up everyone, even BFF, and does so.

People being oversensitive is always a hazard when you're doing a comic.

I think it's important to consider whether whatever story outcome you're going for can be accomplished by any other traumatic event or whether you're just going for that as the obvious choice/shock value - the fact that you're "struggling" with whether to include it or not suggests you might be better off using another catalyst.

Most of the time a female character getting assaulted IS a cheap, lazy plot advancing device, plus in your case you potentially have to consider the portrayal of repercussions/the characters involved even if it didn’t happen - they might pretty much be the same.

TL;DR these kinds of plots are like semicolons - if you don't know how to use them, don't.

The word balloon shapes are getting better, I just don't get why you're sticking with this tiny text, which is hard to read because letters run together poorly with all their extended serifs. You have main characters with the last name of Mann, and another character that says that name constantly because he has a hate-on for them, and you're using a font where two lowercase Ns in a row look ridiculous and almost illegible.
It's also too small. not WAY too small, but too small. Come on man, just pick another font. I guarantee you have a better one in that program.
>>
>>89288649
Don't be sorry

Fix it

Remember that time when everyone said they couldn't read it because it was too small, and you said you could still read it fine? Because I remember that distinctly
>can't change
why? You already changed it twice, albeit reluctantly, and each time was a major improvement. Why not keep doing that until you get a winner? This is the best font so far, but it's still not acceptable yet. I want to know who designed it and made the letters fit together so badly.

this is the first time in the comic where the time gap where emil was alone for two years is introduced.

>Cupid is winged, allegedly, because lovers are flighty and likely to change their minds, and boyish because love is irrational. His symbols are the arrow and torch, "because love wounds and inflames the heart." These attributes and their interpretation were established by late antiquity, as summarized by Isidore of Seville (d. 636 AD) in his Etymologiae.[15] Cupid is also sometimes depicted blindfolded and described as blind, not so much in the sense of sightless—since the sight of the beloved can be a spur to love—as blinkered and arbitrary. As described by Shakespeare in A Midsummer Night's Dream (1590s):[16]

We were just talking about it. If you made the models, of course you can trace them. The question is whether it's going to look good or just stand out. People have done it Dewd. They've pointed out your plagariasm, your dropped arcs, your poor characterization, your random characterization, how you clearly don't read anything of note and what you do read you don't understand. You see symbols but don't get why they work, so you replicate because you lack the ability to perceive depth.
>>
>>89297760
not to knock the one actually-correct criticism in this post, but I think the dropped arcs are an attempt to fix the flaws. sucks because it really makes it harder to keep track of what's going on, but it's obvious the motivation with that is to suck less by cutting out what doesn't work.

There was no hope for him at birth. This kid is literally retarded. Can't spell, can barely form a coherent sentence, and just mindlessly regurgitates what he consumes with zero self awareness. His mother must've drank during pregnancy for someone to be this addled.
>>
>>89297882
hatred is always inappropriate. I'm not trying to shield anyone from the consequences of posting on 4chan, I'm just countering your opinion with mine, and trying to talk rationally to the one person in a long time who has tried to actually do the same instead of just spewing vitriol, as if that would do anything when it hasn't ever worked in the history of communication.
but fuck, it's not hard to come up with shit he does badly. You could write a book on it. but characterization? you picked the one thing he's actually pretty good at, the one charming part of this comic.
and as for the plagiarism accusations, that's nonsense, but we've argued that one to death already

after 'random characterization' i didn't understand a damn word of that post, so it's possible that's accurate too and I'm just not getting it.

If your "resolve" is really that unbreakable try actually making into a half-decent comic instead of what West Tree is now. Try to actually improve your art, your paneling, your dialogue. These factors have all improved since the very first page, so you probably have SOME desire to get better, but they're still pretty crappy. Slow down from making a shitty page every day and instead make a half-decent page twice a week or so. Go fucking study anatomy, gesture, color theory because your art has none of that. Go read up on pacing and comic paneling.

When people say "not going to make it" on this thread they think of someone like you, Dewd. Someone who who commits himself to comics but neither knows how to make good comics or has the desire to learn.
>>
>>89298023
That's fine just fix your broken ass story and your piss-tier art you fucking oblivious fuck. All anybody wants is for you to make a concerted effort to fucking better yourself.

>These factors have all improved since the very first page, so you probably have SOME desire to get better, but they're still pretty crappy. Slow down from making a shitty page every day and instead make a half-decent page twice a week or so.
Gotta agree on this one. There was noticeable improvement, but lately there's been seemingly willful backsliding. I don't think I've ever seen an artist regress before. I mean I know some people who sway from good to terrible day to day or hour to hour, but this latest era, starting with the addition of text, is just bad. Backgrounds have disappeared, text is hard to read, and the improvements to hand anatomy that Dewd apparently worked so hard on have been almost wiped.

I kinda miss paper. Any other digital bros kinda miss paper?
I stockpiled a bunch of it and a bunch of mechanical pencils, leads, and erasers, then just kinda stopped drawing much until finally one day I realized I needed to get a tablet, got one, and now... man, where'd paper go in my life?
>>
>>89298441
I do my main comic digitally, but I started working on a 5 page comic in traditional. Working with real pens and ink instead of a tablet felt charming and quaint. I don't know if I could do traditional all the time though, 'cause the lack of ctrl+z frustrates me.

oh, I didn't realize it was so distracting. A lot of my favorite books have little blurbs from the author in the front or back and it always felt really nice to me. I didn't occur to me that it would come off as being self-promote-y. I was going to make it a regular thing. Bad idea??
>>
>>89299374
Like anything, it needs to be balanced. This comic is very unusual so far, so it's probably too soon to say whether it worked, since this is all there is. How regular did you intend to make it? Because like those books you enjoyed, it should probably be limited to the front or back.

honestly, you should get rid of the dialogue in third panel altogether. Show don't tell and what not.

I don't really know much about this comic, what's that thing she's got on her face and how did it get there? I mean, even if it's something that's already well established in the comic, you should probably devote a transition panel to it

You should really add shading to this comic, I actually kind of dig these designs, they're kind of charming, but I have trouble getting past looking at just flats

>>89299983
Hey, those panels look pretty decent. I'm in the same boat as you man, shading is tough especially in complex lighting. The thing is, most of your readers won't be art critics, so they won't have a discerning eye for whether or not it's "ugly" or "looks wrong".

As long as you KNOW you're doing it correctly, then just go for it and put it out there, regardless of what you think

okay, noted, and thank you very much. I'm going to be updating it 3 or 4 times a month, every Friday. I may take a break every 4th week so I have more time to plan out panels and so I don't suffer from burnout. GigaTRIGGR:Zero spans 4 books, Lili, Ebon, Ivon, and The Book of Blood & Bone, each around 30 or so pages. I have the whole story planned and bulleted from start to finish already, so updates will be consistent.

Here is the cover for my next chapter that I've started work on
Its not something I worked too hard on, and it's a work in progress, but do you guys think it's a little too dark?

>>89300710
Your stuff has a nice and calming look to it. I like it.
I don't know what it reminds me of but I swear I've seen something like your style before

>>

>>
>>89300845
The guy at the bottom is supposed to be hidden, so that's on purpose
With the text though. I'll have to see how I can make it pop out more. Thanks for the help though
Also, it's departed. I draw that part of the title really poorly every time I put the title anywhere on purpose. Might have to fix the 'a' now that you mention that though
>>
>>89300819
I'd say you're biggest problem is that the cover is boring. Your characters aren't doing anything, they're just standing around. Make this more interesting if you can

"departed" is too difficult to see, give it something like a white word border

As far a lighting goes, I'm not a fan, though I can't put my finger on it. Maybe you should play around with sharper contrasts between light and shadow

I do agree that it could look more interesting if I drew them all doing something. Like I said though I didn't work too hard on this cover. Honestly, I just got pre-existing renders of the characters and shoved them in a corner with a little bit of shading.
Now that you say that though, I wanna try making this look better. I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

It was GigaTrigga originally. I came up with the name doing Codename:KND fan-art in summer school when I was a teenager. It was a giant robot ice cream snowman tank. >>89302824
Not really. Doc Hammer had a deviantart account and he's a fucking beautiful painter.
>>
>>89302809
alright, all design is non arbitrary. so here is the reason for the details
1, animal tails and animal ears
She is half fox, like a kitsune. There are a lot of animal people in my world.
2, a cleavage window
to show off her boob, thats why, when you have something great, show it
3, fishnet stockings & high heel boots
Those exist and high heel boot hurt more when you step on people with them
4, gaunlets and claw gloves
She is half fox, and fox use claws and teeth to hunt, so she use them as weapon. Like when someone with a power fist.
And fyi, I post on dA, Artstation, Twitter, tumblr
I post the design here too because people tend to be more open and honest.
So, calm down and be nice, this the internet.
>>
>>89302889
So your character is literally nothing but what her costume dictates she be.
Wow, amazing. How original. I bet it took you all of two seconds to conceive of.
>>
>>89302920
No, her costume reflect her personality.
I'm posting the character costume, not her personality and trait or backstory.
Don't get your panty in a twist
>>
>>89302889
>So, calm down and be nice, this the internet.
That's exactly why I'm saying these things.
I'm being honest. Its a fucking stupid design.
If you honestly want to get anywhere with this hobby, because you certainly aren't doing this for a job unless you're doing it for some abortion like RWBY, you need to fucking learn that stupid shit like that isn't "good design". Its fucking lazy.

You aren't designing a costume or a character.
You're taking fetishes you've gotten from anime shit and you're frankensteining them together into a customized waifu.
>>
>>89302946
What personality?
You haven't done or said a single thing about the character that reflects personality.
In fact, every facet of the costume is what you've said dictates the character.
She has a tit window because lol tits.
She wears high heels because lol sex.
She has animal ears and a tail because lol beatiality.

Experimented with a super simplified Dupe design used for more resource intensive animations. Any of these segments will be shown on a computer monitor so I figured going with a 90s era internet cartoon aesthetic would work well. This is still super early and I'm not sure how to handle the backgrounds yet but I think this model will lend itself to animation well.

ahem, i just got finished throwing this together for my FATES CHAOS project

Flags indicate accent and nothing more, this takes place in a fantasy world.

Stars indicate level of importance in the first 2 arcs(24 chapters), there are 12 chapters in each arc

5 stars= very important main character or main bad guy in silver tongue and xi-xu's case
1 star=one off character that either dies early on or shows up for a few scenes, does something really important for the story and plot and is never seen again for the rest of the story,

original characters, made in sketchbook pro, this is a quickly thrown together mess, character pictures where drawn art different times so this needs to be re-done for sure...

hi there. lucky hazard updated today!

http://luckyhazard.thecomicseries.com/
>>
>>89302582
There's like two or three things you can break it down to
>learning how to make any shape in the world, by if-it's-too-hard-to-draw, breaking it up into smaller easier shapes
>having good taste in deciding what shape to make things and stylizing them further to look cool and special
>learning geometry and perspective and whatnot so that once you've made the shapes look good head-on, you can also make them look good in other positions and angles
those are the only universal things. Everything else is specific, like if you're drawing something alive, learning its specific anatomy.. or if it's something manufactured, learning its geometric part shapes, etc.

Thanks. Personally, most of my dissatisfaction came from the whole chapter being a mess impossible to salvage.
Not that my drawings couldn't use some polish, in fact, I want to practice a lot once I'm done with this. I already announced this story is going to be scrapped once I wrap this chapter up, and when I'm confident enough to get back to comics, I'll see if I re-take it or start a new one.
More practices because why not. This is my character Leslie with some google search on clothing from different times. Here we have 50's, 80's, 70's and a bonus Android 18, who was pretty much my main inspiration for Leslie design. Blonde, bobcut with no bangs, big forehead, blue eyes, and a somewhat half sleep face.
I fucked up the last one with the head size, but since these practices never got further than this, it's gonna die this way..
I'll try to have a new comic during the week.

She had a pretty 80's look in her teen age, but she values comfort over aesthetics now, so I guess you're right.
I want to finish the chapter because regardless of my feelings about it, there are still people actively reading it, and I want at least to compensate their dedication these last five and a half years.
I'm also not sure if I'll get back to it or not, but if I do, I'll be posting it in a different place from Smackjeeves, so I'll have it scrapped for the time being.

no point in scrapping it then, just leave it as a chapter you're not terribly happy with, then write a new one. and if you do get a new site, make sure you link it on the old one, and include the entire old archive on the new site. Just in case you weren't planning to do that already
>>
>>89311000
No, no, I'm scrapping the whole comic out of the interwebs, not just the current chapter, but I still want to give it closure to it, so I'm committing myself to finish it.
I dunno, I'm picky about this stuff, so I'm not sure this makes any sense, but I'm still down with it.

width should be a minimum of 700, my good sir. 1000 is a good maximum. this is too tiny to read. Or maybe it's just bad penmanship? 10 minutes of useless what?
I'm also very confused about the third to last panel, and how the bucket ended up on her head.
In general though this is a good joke. keep going
>>
>>89312373
Thank you. Im going to have darker lines and wider width next time. I have horrible penmenship. The bucket fell from the stand and onto the guy's head. It was supposed to be about a gothic loli and the emperor from star wars being assigned to clean windows.

Working on an X-men vs Street Fighter fan comic.

I saw this front cover for the game,
http://pasteboard.co/oW1lOqQE4.jpg
and wanted an actual comic.

My style doesn't do it justice, but here's hoping art evolution kicks in.

The story follows Jubiliee and Sakura getting captured by Magneto/M.Bison. Later ending up in those pods you see when you fight Apocalypse.

It alternates back and forth between their adventure and ryu/cyclops mission to rescue the other street fighters/mutants.
>>
>>89315647
>torn between wanting to 'is this guy serious?' but respecting the balls it takes to accuse someone this good of not having the basic skills
>>
>>89315834
He doesn't, plain and simple.

I know he's better than any of the other scrubs here, but he's still at an amateur level at best and no amount of half-decent watercolors can hide it. Someone needs to say it.
>>
>>89315942

basic linework is done
>>
>>89316248
I don't redline

But just looking at the latest page up there, I can point out the posing is stiff and unnatural, there is no movement or fluidity to the figures. The character's face is inconsistently shaped in the two panels, with the features like the nose, chin shape and cheekbones not matching up. The lines are pretty ambiguous and shaky all around.

The lapels on the jacket should be raised a bit off the shoulder and should be given at least some depth so they don't literally look drawn onto the jacket. Same deal with the axe head. The tie is sloppy, which is a shame because the shirt collar was done with some care.

The arms at the bottom are literally just coming out of the second panel, with the space on the left of it completely empty because there's no way to have drawn the rest of the body posing with the arms at that angle without it exposing how ridiculous that position they are in is.

The hands are probably the worst part of the picture, the posing and angle are dry as toast, and them being the centerpiece of the picture makes this especially bad. I can see they are not yet comfortable drawing hands and fingernails and should probably work on that first.

It just seems the artist is focusing too much on the kitschy-ness of watercolors and mixed-media instead of the bones of the illustration
>>
>>89316701
I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, but that is the stockstandard list of impossible-to-refute but also meaningless art criticisms that make the critic look smart without having to really say anything
>Stiff, shaky, ambiguous, dry
it's half buzzword half taste and I've seen it a lot. Have you actually read the rest of this comic? I feel like that will give you some better perspective.
>>
>>89316815
I don't need to read the comic to see the flaws in the picture.

The artist can take it or leave it, I don't care either way, just gave my two cents in the hopes that someone with promise could actually improve. I've found it's better to get these criticisms anonymously rather than bringing them to a convention and having to hear them in person.
>>

Feel free to comment on anything you feel like commenting. I personally would appreciate some feedback on the flow of events.

It's edgy as fuck, I know, and I don't like that, to be honest, but there's not much to do about it because they're both mentally rotten, and this was never planned to be your usual incest. I'm more than open to opinions about it tho, but I want to stick to the idea of two rotten people that know they're broken merchandise, but are not willing to let go of what they have.

I can put a brief summary of the following events if you need it.

OH! Before I forget, the last panel in colour was originally supposed to have her fake surprise when the guy grabs her, but she was totally expecting it. I feel it gets lost in translation.

I love how many people are actually doing this simple prompt. We used to have such fun activities. Does anyone have any ideas for more things like that, that people would actually be able to participate in without it taking too much time? Because I think that's what killed most of our activities. no damn time. It's one thing if it gets people excited for your comic, which in turn gets you more excited and motivated so you just speed up, but otherwise it's time you could be spending on your comic.

Have you ever seen someone make their own OC based on one of your characters, or have seen someone take one of your characters and use it as their online persona?

>>
>>89337758
I size my pages to 900 pixels and that looks just fine. You really should be drawing your comics at a much larger size than that in the first place, though. I draw my pages at 2400x 3220 as I plan to print, and even that's a little small for some people.
>>
>>89337758

> 1600x1300
> ridiculous resolution

I draw my strips at A5 (148 x 210mm) at 1200dpi, or 6992 x 9921 pixels (in Clip Studio Paint aka Manga Studio).
At 300dpi, an A5 page is 1748 x 2480, which is the size they're printed at.
I post them on my website at 700x1000, 96dpi.

You should know what your final page size is going to be, then work larger than that. If you draw a page without knowing what the end size is, then it's likely you'll end up with text that's far too small, and/or intricate detail disappearing into a blur.
This is why I advise working at a size suitable for printing, and thinking in terms of mm/inches (and points for text) instead of just pixels.

1600x1300 will reduce to 1000x813 or 900x731 comfortably.
Putting two strips on one page would be an acceptable size for printing, though the lettering may be on the small side.

always good to hear businessmen plying their wares in RPG towns. Too often they just expect YOU to find the place. fuck that. you need to shout about your shops and inns. and if it can be one of those town-introducers, all the better. Every town needs one of those. they're like walmart greeters.

I'm told that many art movements in history were intentionally flat, that's just the way the culture demanded it. It's quite possible that was his deal. Then again several paintings look like they're really trying to show perspective and fail at it

this is real, but for some reason it make some pieces just feel nice that way, his room its fucking broken and still looks so nice, and alive. I know I just can sit down and say Im van gogh and fuck up perspective and straigth lines anyways.

personally after that doctor who episode, I like to think of him as just a sad, oft-drunk amateur who's really good at making things pretty, but crud at the fundamentals. like if I'd been friends with him, I would have done some drawings and then had him color them in. then I would have suggested that maybe alcohol isn't the best treatment for his mental issues.

>oft-drunk amateur who's really good at making things pretty
My personal aproach its that Van gogh its painter and his work its about color and the nature of oil paint by itself, not as much as a representative person.
>then I would have suggested that maybe alcohol isn't the best treatment for his mental issues.
Vincent only needed a friend since his artist friendo left him to eat Tatian loli pussy when his dad died and he cut his ear.
read Lettters to Theo if you really want to feel the Van Gogh.

Shame he wastes it drawing fat porn and farting cartoon characters
>>
>>89345732

that was like, fuckin biblical, man.
>>
>>89345788
Someday you'll learn that the two go hand in hand. The same sense of taste that keeps some of us from drawing fartwhales also keeps our art stiff, lifeless, and orderly. But you know, there's room in this world for johnny quest AND cow and chicken.

I'm just not sure how to go about finally starting this. I just can't stop making oneshot sketch panels like this. I have the general ideas, model sheets, and thumbnails but I'm not sure how to start
>>
>>89348853
is that what it looks like?
I say you take a list of your general ideas and start writing down the orders they should go in, then start writing some basic script outlines.
you say you have thumbnails already? That should make it pretty clear what to do
>>
>>89348933
Like I said, it's thumbnails done in oneshot form. They just show how I want a scene to play out or to get a general tone.

This is a doodle I did last night just to play around with a limited color palette
>>
>>89349136
>how I want a scene to play out
what more is there about a comic?
>>
>>89349165
I mean like playing around with angles and expressions
>>
>>89349255
ohhhh, direction. you need help with direction!
okay no problem, post the thumbnails of your first page. We have some really good directors in here (not me), and they can give you notes. Just the act of thinking about it, even if you reject their suggestions, will get you in the right mode.
>>
>>89349311
I don't have the pics on my, but I know how I want the first two pages to look.

Page one starts off with three establishing shots showing the galaxy, space ships, and colonies on the moon's craters. The next page cuts to a man sleeping with his feet propped up on his ship's dashboard. A small box appears saying "Park, 20-something, lazy captain of the SS Lob-Star." An incoming call flashes up on a pop-up monitor in the dashboard.

When I went to Portfolio day, a Parson's representative felt that my oneshot panels (he referred to them as storyboards) were great because they told a story in 4-5 panels and carried a lot of emotion.
>>
I wonder if the reason accidental mis-colors in my comic look so good is because I picked the wrong colors, or just because it's so new and refreshing

I refuse to change the date on this comic, it was almost finished while it was still the 22nd., i just tweaked a few things
Once again bunny boobies means I probably shouldn't post it, so I'll link it
kiwidayn.comicgenesis.com/
and here's a preview image. I came up with this guy fuckages ago, there's just something neat about the geometry.
In fact most of the critters in this one are sketches I've been saving, returning designs, or, in the case of the wargator, something my much-more-talented friend Boon came up with. (Sadly like so many great artists, doesn't think she's worth putting up any kind of gallery online for herself so I can't link one)

Yeah, sure. Of course, not as detailed since these are just pin-ups, also because I'm still torn between whether doing basic soft shading, cel shading or crayon shading
>>
>>89352179
If you want my opinion, this rough shading does no favors to such sleek styling and subject matter. Stuff like this needs big meaty black outlines like kill la kill, with the line weight really emphasizing the depth. I would like to see the same shades and shading-areas, but as hard-edged cel shading. It'd look all wonderful and shiny and kinda like the work of Mighty Otaking

Oh wow, you remember me, cool.

Story's pretty straight foward, 4 characters against the big bad, think Lawrence of Arabia but set in Robocop Detroit and the Arabs are Lizard people.

>>89352227
I'm not trying to be anime or anything of the like but okay, It's better to leave the rough shading for the backgrounds anyway.
>>
>>89352179
I for one welcome our smooth-crotched space overlizards.
>>
>>89352275
Nah that's just a simpsons reference... though this does look oddly familiar. Did you get, like, WAY better since the last time you were here? The costume looks familiar, I wanna say there were 4 characters with matching costumes? Good lord, you have majorly improved. I think.

Yeah, you're thinking of this, I just drew these quickly to get a feel for the colors rather than to look right, and as time passed I kept making them less cartoony proportions more and more.

>>89352338
I was actually going more for the 80's Nelvana look with the square eyes and such, but yeah, I guess flat shading will do, also because it'd be easier.
>>
>>89352425
Yeah this is a good look
also actually I was wrong, I remembered it being worse than it was. Even back then they looked neat, and the girl is way cute. it's 80s as fuck in a number of ways, and that is way alright with me.
