I wanted a serious movie. I liked the tone of Batman v. Superman (Ultimate Edition). The previous Johnny Cash trailer elicited feels of desperation and struggle with a more messianic mutant girl (her powers were unrevealed so I was thinking phoenix territory or reality warper). This trailer on the other hand eliminated all of my preconceptions about a potential "last mutant" story and instead replaced it with a much more predictable murder road trip starring Logan and X23 (who I feel the general public won't give a shit about) with jokes on the side and about passing the torch to the next generation....fucking let down. I also feel like they're trying to go the Hit-Girl route with enticing audiences with violent children that kick ass and honestly I see that shit probably once a week in some way or another. Violent kids and psychic powers/occultish vague themes are a indie writers bread and butter

It's meant to be set just a few years after the new future that Logan woke up in at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse.

No word on how the others were wiped out. Most likely possibility is the Legacy Virus that targets and kills mutants. Logan could have the Virus and his healing factor is fighting the virus constantly, meaning anything not immediately life threatening takes far longer to heal, and doesn't heal fully, leaving scars.

In the first trailer you see a shot of a guy completely covered up with goggles and a hat. Speculation is that is Caliban, who can track mutants. He's the one the Reavers are using to find X-23.

Xavier being used to locate mutants isn't something he'd go along with unless he was being mind-fucked like in the second movie, so I don't see how that'd work here.

That's from the Old Man Logan comic. The villans join forces and switch up their opponents. Spider-Man's enemy Mysterio uses his illusions on Wolverine making him think he's under attack. When it's all over the illusion falls away to show Wolverine just killed all the X-Men.

The Old Man Logan storyline was completely reliant on access to the entire Marvel roster of characters. They can't do that for the film.

My biggest complaint with these movies is how shallow everything is. Like, in the comics they've had cities, islands, neighborhoods, art, culture, musicians, and designers all for mutants.
It's not JUST the X mansion or brotherhood. There's other groups that are actually living in the world and doing things. It's so frustrating that this universe is almost 20 years old and it's still lacking in so many areas.
