Superman was good

Comixology dropped the solicits yesterday, and people have started peeking through them. Clean Room appears to be dead for now

Clean Room (2015-) #18
Season One of CLEAN ROOM finishes with a literal big bang as the walls of reality come crashing down!
Everything Astrid Mueller has tried to build is on fire, and she is nowhere to be seen, as the true monsters are revealed at last. A mind-bending climax to this acclaimed series’ first epic tale!

Simone was quick to tweet about it

Phil Jimenez RT'd a bit about how Marvel is realizing that they need to make you like Captain Marvel again, and so I found out that there are people who *don't* think she needs to be rehabbed from CW2.

that's a quality side-eye, Madge
>>
>>89241217
I'm interested in how their superhero universe is gonna go. Still not really clear on their publishing schedule, but 7 books launching across 7 months right? I wonder what they need to sell to be considered successful.

Will at least check out the first Priest issue.

It was serviceable. Basically nothing really happened in it to move the story. And that's one of the biggest problems with Tomasi's Superman. But at least his pacing isn't Rucka bad.

So with Madge, there is no Clark Kent side to him. Which was a very deliberate choice, but a limiting one.
>>
>>89241379
I found the last one a lot better as character set up. Like, this dude was locked in a fucking empty house for 15 years or something? He escaped and exploded and was insubstantial for X amount of time, years? He never saw his cruel mom or other family bar again, or anyone bar the guy he'd been crushing on for a decade?

That's not exactly conventional and I would've gone on board more if the fucked-up bits weren't drifted past. Maybe it's just cause I don't know the character well.

In any case, it's just as well. When was the last time you saw a fantasy work that wasn't just a Tolkien knockoff? The fact that the term "standard fantasy setting" is a legit thing is pretty fucking depressing and emblematic of why fantasy comics in particular are dead as hell.

>Carol Danvers might be the most high-profile female superhero in Marvel's comic book universe after the events of last year's Civil War II series, but the same can't be said of her position in the real world — at least, not yet. A new video series from Marvel aims to change that.

>The first installment of Captain Marvel: Alien Nation features Margaret Stohl, writer of the new The Mighty Captain Marvel series, and Sana Amanat, editor and director of content development at Marvel. They explain the backstory behind Carol Danvers and her power set, while also placing the character inside the wider comic book universe.

>The monthly video series is Marvel's second entry in its Spotlight Music franchise, following last year's launch of Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet. That latter series paired writer Ta-Nehisi Coates with a number of hip-hop acts for videos accompanying each issue of the critically acclaimed series; moving forward, Alien Nation will feature Stohl and music from, according to Marvel, "some of the world's biggest female-led musical acts."

I don't know, man, I just do it. If I'm working on a comic script I usually write down the bare basics of the story first and then draw the layouts (I *cannot* write a script without doing the layouts first, it's literally impossible for me). Anyway, after I'm done with that I start working on the script, adding the dialogue, panel descriptions, and all that shit. When it comes to set up I haven't worried too much about it yet since the scripts I'm making right now are pretty disposable, so who knows, I may have your same problem if I ever start to get serious hah.

They're still pretty solid for adults. The grittiness helps. Not like Leifeld EXTREME gritty, actual grounded in its own form of realism gritty.

Each series stands on its own, so you don't need to worry about continuity, though it is there as a reward for reading along.

I really came to like Majestic when I first read this series. I'm really sad he never got any attention from the general comicbook reader population. He was a methodical Superman with a great mix of cold and calculating with compassionate. The series featuring his sorta girlfriend was also decent. Though one character I'd love to have a short several issue long special on is his daughter [/spoilers]. An immortal explorer with moderate superpowers she never ever uses in favor of having fun adventures and learning the secrets of the world. I could see it being fantastic with a decent writer.

Madge actually gives a shit about the value of human life in general (the "little people"), even if he's also pretty hard on criminals.

That's a pretty rare quality, as fascists go, which does genuinely make at least a little bit of difference.
