I remember when Slott had to ask retailers to order more copies of The Clone Conspiracy because it wasn't clear that it was the main story. The only explanation I can think of for this is that Marvel knew there were people who would buy ASM no matter what to keep their collection complete, and put the main story in a mini series to get as much money out of those people as they could.
