I think you're on the right track there. Blade could play the part of the too-serious straight-man to the team which Monica did in Nextwave, whilst at the same time having his own built-in absurdity which they could play with. The Captain is a no-brainer.

As far as reject mutants, though, my vote goes to Doctor Nemesis. He's always fun, we haven't seen him for a while, and he has the same over-the-top overbearing personality as Elsa. He could be their tech guy.
